Daniel F reacted to Jim M in Moderator should be disallowed to edit other staff profiles
To play devil's advocate here: Why make them a mod if you do not trust them to not do something like this though? Especially, something small like editing a profile of another staff member on the front-end. If you can't trust them not to do this, you can't trust them not to do something on moderating a topic.

Make it a Staff policy, and then fire them if they do 😄

Daniel F reacted to Randy Calvert in BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) for IPS
This is not done within the IPB software. This is done though DNS with things like SPF and DKIMM.
Unless you have a registered trademark on your logo (this is supposed to be changing) and are prepared to spend north of $1000 a year for the BIMI VMC certificate, this can’t be done.
https://support.google.com/a/answer/10911028?hl=en
Each email provider decides what certificate companies they will accept. Google only supports Entrust and DigiCert currently.

Daniel F reacted to Square Wheels in Can't add custom block based on new database
@Daniel F solved this.
He determined I needed to turn off STRICT_TRANS_TABLES in MySQL. Once I did, I was able to create the block.
Thank you

Daniel F got a reaction from PinPics in Permissions to View Clubs - Restricting one Admin Group?
Rebuilding the search won’t change here anything. Check the widget settings and confirm that the permissions are not overridden

Daniel F got a reaction from Clover13 in [v5 REQUEST] Implement extension functions more consistently
Extensions will be easier to implement in v5 because there's now an abstract class with all mandatory abstract methods 🙂

It will be available on https://ic-essentials.com within the next 2 weeks. Just need to test it myself, fix any open bugs and import the purchases.

Daniel F got a reaction from Safety1st in <head> Add On
There's no need for a 3rd party app!
You can add custom HTML code to the end of the </body> tag by adding it to the footer HTML field.

Daniel F reacted to Randy Calvert in Risk of LDAP Injection
Question 1… are you using LDAP authentication?
Based on your post history, it looks like you are running some sort of automated scanning service against your site. A lot of the things you are describing/reporting sound like false positives.
In order for IPS to help however, it needs a LOT more info. “CMS” is a rather large application. Simply saying there is a vulnerability somewhere in it is like saying someone is sick somewhere in the city of New York or London.
What specific file? Does it reference what code is problematic? Under what circumstances can the exploit be triggered?
I’m almost willing to bet what it is thinking is a vulnerability is actually not an issue and is either the scanner not understanding it or it is detecting a server configuration issue itself.

Daniel F reacted to WebCMS in Display pending item counts in ModCP and bolden menu items
In ModCP, it would be ideal to display the counts of pending items for each menu item on the left and bolden the menu items for a visual cue.
For instance -
Reported Content Approval Queue (15) Deleted Content (5) Member Management (3) Warnings Topics (7) Posts (12) Blog Entries Articles (2) Article Comments ... Without the above, we have to click on each menu item to see what's pending.

As an alternative, you can use Pages to create a new support system based on same idea with tickets as on Commerce.

Daniel F reacted to Jim M in Concern re deprecation of Support requests
This can be already setup. You can link the contact us form to a forum creation URL of your choosing. You would simply need to allow guests to post there and enable that only topic creators (and staff) can see their topics. Then you have this available to you and essentially, a ticket system in a forum.

I don't believe in this instance that's the case. I believe it has more to do with all the garbage SEO content taking over search and it's getting even worse due to AI. As it continues to get tougher to distinguish between AI content and human content, first-hand experience and demonstration of real knowledge are becoming more of a focus in Google.
A Google Engineer has been advising on how to improve and better position forum content in search since March. Recently Google's been actively showing more 'Perspectives' content on mobile as well as highlighting Discussions and Forums. Until now, most of those results have been from Reddit and Quora. These changes should help showcase more variety.
Engineer's Quote:
"And most importantly, thanks for making changes. It heartens me to see forum platforms moving to expose their content better. I really would like to see this content more in search results rather than low quality, over-optimized rehash articles."
I work for a publisher that is investing heavily in AI. I see it across many other publishers as well and it's only going to continue to ramp up. I hate the direction publishers are heading in and if Google doesn't get ahead of it, searchers aren't going to be able to trust any of the results Google delivers. There's a reason so many people add 'Reddit' to the end of their searches now.
User-generated content and real-life experience are becoming more and more important.
