estan reacted to AlexWebsites in 4.6.8 - SEO and significant drop of site visits. Why?
I just checked three of my sites that have all upgraded to 4.6.8 and user visits are are relative to where they where on 4.6.7, no significant change. Pageviews as well. I'm waiting for a bump in visits/activity, but that may take some time if these SEO updates are impactful. The main thing I wanted to add here @estan is that I do not see a correlation on my end of a traffic dip with updating to 4.6.8. I know it can be gut wrenching when traffic dips, so I hope this helps.

This topic inspired me to make tagging mandatory when a user creates a new topic (they could add tags previously, but it wasn't required). I'd like to see in a few months what the tags functionality looks like so I can begin explaining to my community how to follow certain tags in a custom Activity Stream. It's an effort to begin really utilizing the Activity Streams and ideally shift our homepage from the top news stories, to a page where they're seeing content they chose.
A tag cloud would be cool 👍

I don’t have anything concrete to share, but we had a high level conversation about making tagging more useful last week, so I would expect we’ll be aiming for some changes in the near future.

Yep - and that's where we (or at the very least, I) see the future of Pages - but those apps also have huge open-source communities or a large development team focusing only on that product. It's not something we can click our fingers and bring to life, but it is in our minds.
Speaking personally, I have a pretty clear picture of what Pages could be and what would set it apart from the other visual page builders out there, but for the time being that'll stay internal until a definite roadmap is planned out.

Its simply warming you that they are present. Anything added additionally can potentially cause issues, and as a support area, its simply stating you have them, so you know its something you can disable and check should you have any problems.

It is very likely you will have issue in the future. Quite simply we do not support its use in that manner

Scroll to the "adding to the ACP" section and it shows you there

estan reacted to Matt in Pages Block. Refresh one time per day. How?
You'll need to do the caching/refresh logic inside the block itself if you want more control over how long the item is cached for.

In the field section of the database, you need to make the field containing the quote the “title” field if you want to use SuperQuote. That’s the structure that is expected and necessary. If you can’t use this structure, you might need to create a second database for the SuperQuote records.

The randomization depends on the global setting for the caching time of blocks. There is no setting to allow other periods specifically for SuperQuote.

If you have root access (or your hosts need pointing in the right direction)  then install the package auditctl (if its not installed) and use auditd to watch and log changing to the uploads directory. Tail the log and you will find out the user, process and which executable changed the permissions.
Here is a good example on Ubuntu - CentOS is fairly similar

    @estan
Are you on a managed server or hosted or unmanaged ?
There are many things you can do if you have your own server, for example we use and always have all the Config Server Services and within  this they have the exploit scanner and its very very good and automated......
    https://configserver.com/cp/cxs.html
However its no good installed on an exploited server - its best installed on a new vanilla server as it will doubtfully pick up your existing exploits
You need to sort the server out first before you move forward - this is a manual task to be honest and for a server admin
If your on shared or managed hosting then open a support ticket with them and point them in the right direction......

    @estan

I would say something is changing the r/w permissions of the uploads directory
Also I would guess the hack php files you mentioned were copied over from the old server
The trouble you have is how long was that php script there and what other hacks are in your filesystem.....
I would contact your host as a matter of urgency - if they are any good they will deal with its fairly quickly - if they dont and seem slack I would change hosts

Did you contact your host @estan? If you have not contacted them yet, contact them a.s.a.p. amd ask them to check their access logs and see how those malicious files were uploaded. What other scripts do you have installed in your server space beside Ipb?
Another thing I would strongly recommend is to do a thorough checkup of your server space for any backdoors and the likes that the hackers might have left.

The frontpage with the tabs was a little tricky and we use some custom stuff a regular visitor doesn't notice on first sight too, but with such a great tool like Pages almost everything is possible 👍

Everything would be contained in /board. Whatever application you choose to be your default application then would show up at /board. Say you chose to keep the Forums application as your default, then you would then have your index page and articles at /board/{page-name}/  (where {page-name} is the name of your page or page's URL). If you chose to set the Pages application as your default, then your index page would be at /board/ and your articles would be at /board/{page-name} and then the Forums application would be at /board/forums/

1 - You are checking the version 3 to version 4 section there, so you dont have that, as you arent on version 3.
2 - You should obtain an updated version of your language pack from the author, or update any changed translations yourself if you have manually translated.
3 - If this is needed, the upgrader will walk you through that process
4 - You are not upgrading from content to pages. As mentioned above, you are looking at version 3 to version 4. Thats not the process you are running. You are already on version 4 (you're on 4.3)
5 - This is not something that is available any longer. If you wish to use pages at root, you would move your site to root and set pages as the default application. You can see how to do this here

    https://invisioncommunity.com/4guides/getting-started/setting-your-default-application-r256/

6 - You will need to check any 3rd party items you have on your site are compatible

You will get this warning in AdminCP, that you will not be able to solve:

But it will NOT affect IPS really. Just annoying. The dynamic row format is available starting wit MariaDB 10.2 and higher.

We would not likely prevent support as long as you are using one that is a drop in replacement for a high enough MySQL version in any case. I have not seen an instance where we have not provided support because of a MariaDB instance, unless its specifically behind those MySQL equivalents. I actually use it myself on most of my own instances

estan reacted to Randy Calvert in uploads/logs folder too big. Can I just delete the files?
IPS\Db\Exception: Too many connections (1040) If this is a server you have root level access to and you're server is not maxing CPU/memory usage, you can increase the limit.
    https://ubiq.co/database-blog/how-to-increase-max-connections-in-mysql/
The above URL has a mySQL command you can run to temporarily increase the limit, and editing the .my.cnf file will be the permanent fix.
In terms of your plan to move to a new server...  BEFORE you move, make sure the new server is fully up to date.  Get everything installed/configured correctly.  Make sure the new server has all of the dependancies you need.  You can use the following script to make sure your new server has all of the required components installed.
Once the new server is ready, copy the entire file structure (typically under /public_html) to the new server.  Export your database from the old host and import it.  Make sure you have a mySQL user created and that it has permission to access the new database.
Then edit conf_global.php to change any system paths or database username/passwords.
Once that's done, you might want to test everything before pointing live users to the new server.   The following URL has info on how to edit your OS's host file to manually point YOUR DNS to the new server without effecting anyone else:
    https://kb.leaseweb.com/products/hosting/web-hosting/adding-a-website-to-hosts-file-and-testing-it
Finally once tested, remove the host file entry and point live DNS to the new host.
    Good luck!
