chilihead got a reaction from TSP in Fragmented content for images posted in forums vs gallery
Would be nice to close the gap.
Members use attachments for posts and Gallery for images usually not associated with written content. Why not tie them all together? Some of the best images are on the forum in topics, or in status updates, or in...
    Say...
A member uploads images using attachments. If a member has Gallery, these images are stored (or viewed/mirrored) in a special "Apps" album, or even the name of the app it was uploaded to; "Status Updates" album. The image notes where it is attached with a link so the member can check the content out, like "chevy_impala77.jpg is attached to: These are my rides topic." (Notice the cross promotion of apps and content. Possibly even a blurb.) Since these are post attachments they are protected from deletion on the Gallery side, to avoid mistake deletions in posts. When a member goes to Gallery to browse a user's images, now they are all in one place, and they can browse these albums. You could also allow these images to move album to album (or be able to create sub-albums within) as long as they carried the delete protection and attachment info (link), but if you saw a bunch of "Chevy" images in your "Forums" album, you could move them to a Chevy album. Possibly even have a gallery album selector in the editor for attachments so when posting you select where the images go. So to the default app album or one you select. Album creation would not be good here but being able to select an album would be great as well. Similar to Facebook. You upload directly to the timeline with a status and image or with an image to an album, but you don't have to scroll the timeline to see a user's timeline images, you can go directly to the Timeline Photos album in Photos, where all the albums are. In FB you can also move a timeline album image to another album and the post is not disrupted. Exactly what I posted above. Would be nice!
If the disconnect is because Gallery is a paid app and not core, the solution for IPS could be, the app albums are simply storage folders created in the backend same as is done now. If a user buys Gallery those folders are simply visible in Gallery as albums, through making them Gallery albums or mapping or however they would do that, but the functionality would be within core.
But yes, would love to see integration, there's too much of a disconnect here.
    Thanks!

There are many things I dislike about Vbulletin but one thing they do very elegantly is deal with this very issue.
If a user uploads images to the forum they are stored in a "forum" album (which is auto created). The album is then in the users gallery (under a media tab)
It's fantastic integration and beautifully executed

Probably out of my control. If they show up on desktop but not on mobile, that means those pieces are being explicitly hidden by the responsive CSS. You could certainly modify your theme to show them, but that won't be part of the app.
Thanks for the suggestion. I think that's a bit of a special use case / out of scope for this app, though. You're welcome to ask around for custom development, but it's not something I plan to add in the foreseeable future.

Please clarify the actual error, and send me the related log (from uploads/logs) if possible. 'red message' doesn't tell me much.

That would be a massive behavioral change. Not likely to happen.

Please try it again, then send me recently modified log files (from uploads/logs). That's not an error I can reproduce.

Not a problem I'm aware of. I'll have to investigate and get back to you.

You can ignore that warning (there is a button to skip it). Nothing is actually wrong, everything will work fine. I'll make a change in the next update to make it go away.

We have some cool ideas for the AS that we think should solve most of your concerns, including those mentioned here. On the fly filtering may be one thing. We're not going to do pagination (as in navigate to page 4) as it just doesn't fit technically into the backend of the content discovery module.... but, we are working on navigation and you will be able to click a topic in the stream, hit back and pick up where you left off. I get the sense that's what most want with "pagination" so we'll start there.
That's not months out by any means and should be relatively soon. Virtually any example given regarding "it doesn't do what VNC did" has been successfully refuted. It is every bit as powerful as VNC and then some - I think there's just general confusion on how to use it to its full potential and we need to make a few improvements to make it more intuitive.
Thanks for the tangible, bullet list feedback - it's very helpful.

I am OK with the activity streams. However, I would like to see pagination added. The only thing I don't care for is when I click on load more activity and click on a topic then go back and have to start all over. I know there are ways to fix this, but I would like to have pagination as the answer.

    The issues I have are:
Lack of pagination (slight annoyance) 'Load more activity' being displayed at the 'end' of the stream, when you hit it you get 'There's no more activity to display ', if at the end of a loop with less that the loop internal quantity to display surely it should display that immediately at the end of that data segment without the user having to click on the button again only to display the message? (feels unfinished) [This site] Charles posted a blog entry.... (major annoyance which seems to be being overlooked) Unread Content links take you to the first page of the thread instead of the last read or new comment of the thread. (major annoyance - which I know is under investigation / consideration ) You did ask.....

OK, so you can brake old posts with that feature. How about letting user to choose delete or not that image? Feature request. Remove emoticon from new posts, but not brake old ones. Best way IMO.

Really need this. With an expansive database this could fill up with not only malicious info but erroneous info you do not approve of. We have editors for such approvals that will research the changes, this is really needed for a clean and professional database or records.

I agree with the OP even though you do have a point. Perhaps "urgent fix needed" may be technically the most accurate. While I can appreciate your workaround I can say that on active or visible sites the notion of editing away mass spam is an utter nightmare. You'll spend significant time needlessly deleting automated entries or those created by human drones. It's why I haven't implemented certain features as of yet.

    There is one setting now:
    Moderate new records
But one VERY Important setting is missing:
    Moderate records changes
Without this setting the whole system is useless as the user can post cool new posts and after they get approved they are posting porn stuff in it ... and i dont even get informed about post changes AT ALL!!! do i always have to get there and see if there is changed content ... every hour, every minute?
So why dont moderate post changes?
    Here is a possible solution:
after the user changes the post inform moderator save a copy of this post: "set this post for moderation" from now on this user sees only this "edit-copy" of this post, all other users see the original post let the user edit this copy so many times he wants to after every submit, the post is sent for submiting (if revisions are enabled only this revision) no need to hide or delete the original post unit changes are confirmed as its different postID if revisions are enabled => use it insead of postID or always use revisions when wiki-editing is enabled after the moderator confirmed the changes ovverride the orginal post with the new version delete the copy or save a revision inform user => post approved This system right now makes absolutely no sense without changes-moderation. So please make some changes or disable it completly.

I've just mentioned this twice in other topics with reference to the activity streams and search functions, but I'm sticking it up separately as I really do think it's important.
The use of the reputation system in content discovery seems to be zero. Here we are, our members telling us 'this is a good post' - and we don't seem to be able to use that info. Right off the top of my head here are some ways we could be using that information:
    1) Show me posts with 10 or more likes - instantly you're getting a 'best of the board' feed
    2) Search for posts in topics with '4.1 upgrade failed', rank by likes - you get solutions or explanations of the problem
    3) Show me posts by users with over 1,000 likes - find out what our most valuable users are saying
    4) Blocks of most popular posts over the last 7/28/365 days - showcase to new members of our  best content; stuff to highlight in the newsletter
    5) Show me my highest rated posts - the ultimate ego-search. What do people love most about you?
    6) People who liked this post also liked...
    7) Loads of others, I bet
I find it remarkable that the time was taken to let us filter by number of replies or views, but not by how GOOD something has been judged to be. Major missed opportunity, IMHO.
Now, it is traditional at this point for someone to point out that actually all of these things are possible, I just haven't noticed how. Do go ahead...

See my link in post #2. Many sites recognize orientation tags like FB and photo upload sites that's why users say elsewhere it is fine. If IPS adds this ability, problem solved.
Rotate and crop functions would be nice as well.

Verified with half a dozen of my members on various devices.  They get sideways pictures on photos that appear normal on their devices and even on their computer.

Not sure if it was reported or not .... and this may be "moot" if the new IPB 4.1 eliminates the need for this plugin -- but I found that on the widget, smileys do not show -- they show when you go to the user's profile status message via their profile, just not in the widget.  Thank you for your time.

It seems most pics get uploaded sideways, regardless of how they were take.  This is really frustrating for the users, and kind of surprising there are so few pic options and IPS sells a Gallery add on, which i have for both of my site.
Please add a rotate pic option.
