Some here says that this app comes 5 years to late, and I'm just thinking they are right. Beeing without push notifications for so long has changed the way many use forums. As of now, they enter the site a few times a day and scroll through whatever notifications they have, and are fine with that.
When the new app arrive they will see that the phone chimes in constantly. It is a new behavior, and I'm not sure that is a positive thing (as an everyday user). Every single user need to get through whatever notification settings they have to change it, and every user would change it to some setting not so annoying on their phone. I know that this will be an issue on my sites for sure. For me at least it was an eyeopener, and I do not

The forum where I and much of my core group were active had automatic registration enabled. The admin became an absentee, and the forum became overrun with spam. No one could reach the admin, and even when someone successfully did get through to him, nothing got resolved. He didn't want to do anything; he held onto the forum yet he wouldn't relinquish any control. Very strange. I think he was trying to run the community through the web-site/portal thingy with comments enabled there, and he just didn't care about the forums. The website/portal wasn't really conducive to interaction. The spam situation in the forums was horrific. Most of us migrated. Some stayed and kept trying with that admin. By the time he finally relinquished some moderation/admin control most had moved on to my current community. Only stragglers were left behind. Some of my current members would post in both places, I think just to support those few who had made a go of it there, but soon that fizzled out, too. I've maintained my community for longer than a decade.

If Apple add full push notifications to web apps before the end of 2020, I'll eat not only my hat, but yours too.*

I love your passion, DII but we have given this a LOT of thought. We haven't just gone "OMG lets do an app LOL". It's been something we've been discussing for about 2 years. We've been waiting and waiting and waiting for Apple to take PWA seriously and while they are inching forward with service workers and other things, it's still a long way off.

So we've had no choice but to go the native app route. Don't worry about resources though, we're fine. There's like 18 of us now.

*If you are showing a screenshot of this in 2020 from your push notification from a PWA on your Apple device, I regret everything.

According to the announcement, its a major goal of IPS to support both advertisements and white label.

@Matt  - I think my last update reminder.  Based on your avoidance, I think their is no way out and I guess it would require more time? Is it possible to add option in next release at least? I think many will benefit!  Thank you

Would love to be able to use Google AdMob within the app for monetization.

If you have no plans to release source code as a product, I suggest you release a proper PWA for the rest of us that can't work with a white-labeled, un-customized native app for our sites
Also, the fact that iOS doesn't support Web Push API (but a different service for Push Notifications) doesn't affect me much in a PWA. I greatly prefer Email Notifications for my website since my users don't want a bunch of intrusive notifications on their devices any way, especially from a forum. I understand that many need to have intrusive push notifications to help drive engagement, but this isn't the case for my site.
So, a good PWA where the user is prompted to install the PWA and the PWA does enough caching of files to make it feel like a native app even though it is a JavaScript web app is what I need. See the Twitter PWA vs the Twitter native app... It is very well done and you can't really tell the difference between the two.
The code you need to write for a good IPS PWA is rather minimal. The HTML/CSS needs work to work better on mobile, but that could wait until IPS5 is out and rewrites the theme/JS framework in React.js. I suggest looking at:
    https://react-bootstrap.github.io
for version 5. This would get you out of the business of maintaining your own JS/HTML/CSS framework.
In the meantime, adding PWA into IPS4 shouldn't take but a few months (at most). I've been planning on doing that myself later this year (and have spent a lot of time reading up on what would be needed to support a PWA for IPS4 custom apps). I will have to do this unless IPS gets around to support PWA in IPS4 by the end of the year.

Honestly, and this is my personal feeling rather than a group decision, is that isn't something I want to do. You're limiting the potential growth of your community to give a perk to a small percentage of your user base.

Why not use the app to encourage rapid growth and then offer options (such as subscriptions) to a wider base?

Great start! but with out ads, difficult to go with it, since 80% of the adsrevenue is from mobile ads. Then pay-to-use-app feature sould be avaliable in the Commerce for the users ) or per-group allowance to use the app

Well, it’s called the community suite and everything in that product revolves around the memberships. It’s not IPS’ job to save us money for other products.
That raffle problem is easy to solve. Just collect a username along with the email (or assign one yourself) and then you can user the existing member import feature. You can even put those members in a certain user group so they can be addressed directly. This makes more sense than to add a new member table of just email users to the database.
