'Transparent' view of subforum threads in parent forum
by Guest matthiaspaul- 4 replies

Hi folks, Here comes another feature suggestion for a future version of IPB: Assume a board with many categories and sub-forums (in our case each for a small set of photographic tools, categorized in a logical structure alongside a particular vendor's versatile photo system), similar to a deep directory tree. Since we are trying to build up a shared knowledge base alongside the discussion, it is necessary to have many sub-forums (sometimes 3 and more levels deep) in order to give users a chance to find a collection of information about a specific item or theme just by walking down the tree alongside the attributed paths (forum names). Also, having the board logically or…

Bump should be standard in IPB
by Guest W13- 6 replies
- 1.8k views
I've been requesting this since before the first public release of InvisionBoard. (back when it looked like this: http://web.archive.org/web/20020605060215/...ard.com/forums/ ) InvisionBoard has tons of features- lots that most people never use. That's not a bad thing. It's great... InvisionBoard is a feature-rich forum software and there's no harm in having tons of features. However, I manually have to install the 'bump' modification every single time. It is a feature that I just wouldn't be able to live without. Every time a feature-list is announced for a new version of IPB, the first thing I look for is the 'bump' functionality. May I please request that it be inc…

Using the editor in Admin CP settings
by Guest Michael- 0 replies
- 1.2k views
It would be nice if there was some setting where we could tell the editor used in the Admin CP whether we wanted the text we put in there to be parsed or not. Right now, when you enter code into it, it saves the value as parsed HTML code. That doesn't work very well for things like personal message body text, as that gets parsed when the message is sent. So right now if you use this editor for such a feature, when the message is sent it's going to be sent using the HTML code for the message. That might come through looking OK to the receiver, but if they reply or forward that PM, the quoted text has all the HTML code in it and it is ugly.

Optionally don't show some profile info in post view for when view
by Guest matthiaspaul- 0 replies
- 1.1k views
[EDIT: The title was truncated and should read: "Optionally don't show some profile info in post view for when viewing profile info in member profile is disallowed in a particular context" "Current behaviour is a potential privacy issue..."] Hi all. Brandon asked me to repost this as a feature suggestion rather than as a problem report (as I did here Privacy issue: Even when guests are disallowed to view user profiles, profile info is still displayed in post view) So, well, here it is: For privacy reasons, we disallow guests and not logged-in-members to view any member profiles in our forum. However, some of the profile info is still shown in the "mini profile" on th…

Suggestion: Access to ipsclass in custom module for subscriptions
by Guest FunnyDingo- 0 replies
- 1.1k views
Hello together, I coded a 'custom module for subscription' (wich can be include while adding an new subscription package in the field 'Run custom module on subscription start/end?'). In my case I needed access to the database and I think a nice way would be $ipsclass->DB. Sadly there is no instance of the $ipsclass-Object. My workaround is, to modify the source/handlers/han_paysubscriptions.php and adding a $this->customsubs->ipsclass = &$this->ipsclass; direct after $this->customsubs = new customsubs(); In this case all subs need a var $ipsclass;after class customsubs {otherwise PHP could throw an error (if I remember correctly, it depends on…

I've noticed a few other 'oddities' with the client area, I'm sure it's just some Nexus settings need updating for most: The blog's package page has two downloads block - only the first one actually works^ Same for gallery ^When viewing the blog package page, there must be an unclosed <b> tag because everything is boldUnlike all other packages, there is no 'View Your Downloads' link on the IPB package pageGallery and blog can be pointed to the IPB package, idm can'tNot sure what the plan is for converge, and I know it's not officially supported yet, but there is no place to input converge admin and url details like - perhaps a new package should be made for converg…

We should have an area to input the url to our acp, as in 2.2 a lot of people are disabling it, or some kind of 'notes' area

2 Suggestions

1. In the ACP along with the security tools, there should a CHMOD checker. Or more like a writeable/execuatable/readable checker. It checks all the files if the files has the proper permission to it. It should check all directories and files. Also it should check for index.html exists in all the folders do people don't read what is in the directories. 2. There is a SQL error logger. There should be a PHP error logger also. This is also useful for mod developers also. If it is possible, log all the IPB errors also.

To me it seems like someone would have thought of this by now so it may be something that is hard to do. I just think it would a cool feature and give the members something to look towards as far as user group promotion.

New idea on old "Track Topic" handling...
by Guest Brendon Koz- 0 replies
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if this is already possible, though I don't *think* it is. I know I have at least two options, to be PM'd when a reply has been made on a topic I'm tracking, or be emailed. I just stumbled across a website that will track conversations for you, and list them in a web-based view. Considering the new personal profile view, I think it'd be a decent place to put such a feature, and/or a place within "My Controls". Site (Service) in question: http://www.cocomment.com/

Email to Posting
by Guest GregoryZ- 0 replies
I am looking for methods to create postings directly from emails. For example, I would like to be able to create an email address specific to a forum. If an email is sent to this address, it should be posted in the forum as a new posting. The limitation to this is that I wanted to verify that the specific originating email address (from) belongs to a user that is registered with the forum and is able to create new postings. I spoke to Invision Technical Support a couple of times explaining the need and I did not receive a solid response. I was told however that there are mods available that may be able to provide this functionality. I came in contact with a number of p…

Recommend a good skin designer
by Guest Djelibeybi- 12 replies

Hey gang, A while back I got my IPB forum design from 1lotus. Sadly, James is no longer doing IP.Board skins, so I'm looking for a new designer. So, if anyone has any recommendations for good skin designers, please let me know! I'll be looking to either upgrade my existing skin to IP.Board 2.2 format (its currently 2.0), or actually getting a whole new design, including a new logo -- this depends on overall cost. :) Thanks, Djeli

Staggered release upgrades or similar
by Guest tenaki- 3 replies
- 2.1k views
Having problems with support I would like to make a suggestion. After putting in a request to be upgraded I would far rather have a message saying your board will be scheduled for upgrade in xxx days rather than this current downtime. It would appear that the upgrade was done quickly the fix however is still ongoing after 19+hrs. I am not spoiling for a fight here or anything I am just asking that the system for upgrades after major releases could be looked at. You can only do so much in a day and that should be considered after a major release.

"Old" Yearly License expiring
by Guest tracy4- 7 replies
- 2.6k views
I hope this is the right forum for this kind of request as I could not find a more appropriate one, neither here nor at ipsbeyond.com. I'm running a copy of IPB with a Yearly Licence which I purchased in January 2006. I do not want it to renew and I searched the client area for any information on how to stop a Yearly Licence (or the new Standard Licence) from renewing but without success. Am I supposed to simply send IPS a support ticket stating that I do not wish to renew? What is the best way to cancel an IPB (Yearly) Licence? The KB article "Difference Between A Yearly & A Perpetual License" gives the impression I do not have to do anything if I do not wish to …

Usage: How do I make a profile private? 1 2
by Guest immortality- 32 replies

Ive updated the forums to v 2.2.1. Fast enough, I have a member complaining and very angry at the fact that all the new information shows. Friends list/comments/etc. I don't want to use the classic profile design, I like it very much as it is. Is there any way that only one member can use the classic design and the rest of the more than 7k people the new design? Thanks.

Calendar - Show week on Portal
by Guest surj- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
Hello I think it would be fantastic if there was an option under acp to have the calender show the current weeks planned events rather than a whole month. Similar to if you're on the calender page and click to have it show the weeks events .."../forums/index.php?act=calendar&cal_id=1&code=find&what=thisweek". Showing a months calender in such a tiny area isn't a very effective reminder for dates. If anyone knows how to hack this please let me know

Popup
by Guest .Cameron- 2 replies

I like the new posting interface a lot more than the 2.1 series interface. However, I don't like how we've got the same old JavaScript Pop-up for inserting images, links, lists, etc... Many people have probably noticed the nice pop-ups, like when adding friends and such: My suggestion is to use the same sort of pop-up to replace all of the classic JavaScript windows. It might look something like this: Of course, if the user's browser didn't support it, the standard pop-ups could be used.
