Update.
I updated our server from MariaDB 10.1 to 10.3 and then had the IPS Db convert rows from 'Compact' to 'Dynamic'. As a result the AdminCP notification has gone and its green ticks all the way.
I guess you're bound to encounter hiccups when your database is nearly 20 years old and has gone through 4 major generations.

Getting the same error, so looking forward to 4.5.5. 🙂
Cheers!

Reply received from Invision folks (very speedy and helpful).
Essentially as @kmk suggested, upgrade your MySQL beyond 5.5 (to something like 5.7+) to resolve the issue. There should be no issues with information loss/re-indexing.
So that is what I'll do.

Thank you for the very helpful replies so far.
I have now submitted this as a support ticket (and directed staff to this thread) and will report back on what they say.

Does changing a table's ROW_FORMAT have any impact on the data or indexes (like losing them all)?
Some guidance would be appreciated.

I've seen your post and bash script. Thank you for sharing that. 👍
I wondered if anyone else has had success or if the staff here have anything to say, regarding changes and what tables – since they're requesting it be done to our databases.

A warning popped up during the upgrade to 4.5.4:
QuoteYou have one or more InnoDB tables that are using the 'Compact' row format... we recommend changing it to 'Dynamic'...
Any ideas how we identify exactly which tables those might be?
Many thanks.

Thank you!
I also discovered that's where "Moderation Events" were too.
Cheers.

You can tell I've just upgraded to v. 4.5 can't you? (With the usual trickle down of required PHP upgrades etc.), anyway...
There has now appeared some kind of topic statistics block on some (not all) forum topics that I view. Using the "Manage Blocks" graphic editor will not allow me to remove the block from display on the page.
Does anyone have any more information about this? Why it appears on some topics, yet not on others? How to completely remove it (I never asked for it).
Many thanks.

Similar issue here.

Hello,
A problem I've run in to on IPS 4.5.3 – I can switch off the badges for Moderators that appear on their avatars, but how do I do that for new members?
The badge for new members looks like a restriction/stop/you've been naughty(!) sign not a "wave hello".
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers.
P.S. When using search in Admin CP, the only result for a search on the term "badge" brings up the member ranking scheme, and not the "badge" switch for Moderators which I had to go manually hunting elsewhere for.

Great! Thank you for that important piece of information.
Appreciated.

We use [spoiler][/spoiler] a lot.How can this functionality be retained after its complete removal in a future version?
Do we need to create a new custom editor button with a copy of the code, or something else?
What is the current spoiler code itself if we need to re-insert it into the editor bar?
What of previous uses of [spoiler] tags across thousands of posts, will they still be retained after BBCode parsing is completely and finally gone?

What-a-change-to-the-default.
I've seen feedback on the web from users on 4.5.x forums and common responses are:
Arrrghhhh! My eyes!!!!
&
"What
a
lot
of
wasted
space."
The default colour shceme can be easily altered (just work), but I'm not sure about the "wasted space" issues people are reporting...?
Out of curiosity, have Invision given reasons for making these particular changes? Are they using radically different monitor set-up to us, do they wear sunshades at work? I know their future's bright, but... 😎
Hmmm!

I've experienced no problems with youtube-nocookie.com and by using it Mac Safari 14 Privacy Report reports no trackers on my site at all.
So, embed option: youtube-nocookie would be very useful to have, rather than having to manually edit each posted (embedded) YouTube video.
Thank you. 🙂

anyone agrees that it good be a good idea to let us limit the countries we ship/sell to or receive payment/donations from?
Yes. EU law came in a few years ago about automated delivery of digital items – so restrictions to non-EU are needed for that.
Also, precluding specific countries like Germany that has new mail packaging laws that we cannot meet, so also need to be excluded.

Not working for me.
May have to submit a ticket.

The ACP says that no background processes are running.
IPS 4.5.4: InnoDB tables are using Compact row format...
in General Questions
Posted
Weirdly for some reason our IPS DB rows are a mix of those. I don't know why.
Except alarm bells do begin to ring when it also includes a warning that future upgrades may not work (and we don't know when 4.5.5? 4.6? etc.); we don't have that information.
I think the main issue is clarity. It isn't/wasn't clear whether all table rows should be Dynamic? Some? What DB software version is recommended? etc. I expect IPS don't want to say because of potential liability issues, but the lack of info can be a problem.
