Is this speaking from personal experience? What kind of volume were you pushing when that happened? I'm already pushing rate limits and I haven't had any issues yet even without bounce management.

It's the bounces and "mark as spam" that will kill you, it's less about the volume.

I've used Google Suite to handle my domains email for years without issue, it just doesn't scale well and at a point you start getting rate limited so much you need to switch to another provider.

You won't have your account closed for doing this. You are absolutely allowed to use your Google Suite account this way. You might not be allowed to with a free Gmail account, but you can with Google Suite.

However, as noted, if you are using Google Suite you need to set up an app password. You cannot use your regular login credentials.

It’s when you start getting a lot of bounces where Google starts threatening to shut you down.

I try with gmail, outlook, yahoo.es

This is not recommended and is a good way to get your e-mail account shut down.

    and my corporate domain...

If your corporate domain is hosted by Microsoft365 there are several other steps you'll need to do, and even then it is not recommended.  If it is hosted by Google G-Suite, you risk getting it shut down.

I recommend SendGrid and then setting up MailBouncer.

But when I try to send a test email, I get an error. The password is entered correctly.

It lets me save the password without giving me an error, but when I try to send a test email, it won't let me.

    Thanks, Makoto

Password incorrect can also be a port issue.  Make sure your port setting, TLS/SSL settings, and smtp server settings are correct.

nevermind, even though php 8.0.3 is installed centos7 which is the latest lts version of the os, and ubuntu 18 only supports up to 7.29, so I have to go to a non lts version to use a version of curl you guys support?

If you're on Ubuntu 18 LTS, your server went out of support in May 2023. CentOS7 is also on the chopping block, you'll want to see if an uplift to Alma is possible on your system, however, I recommend a fresh install of Alma on a new server as the cleanest option.

  6. I ended up rebuilding from scratch on a new server with AlmaLinux about a year ago. Ubuntu Support is available for WHM/Cpanel, but not at the most current versions. That is something Cpanel is actively working on.

I went with Alma because the version offered at the time had the longest support term.  I like Ubuntu, but the version that Cpanel currently supports doesn't offer as long a support period, so you'll be back in the situation of replacing the OS again sooner.

If you want to go to Ubuntu, and there's no urgent reason to move today, I would just hold out till Cpanel gets up to date with the latest Ubuntu.  If you need to go today, go with a fresh install of Alma.

so that is most likely not the issue then?

I am going to try and update it to match the specific version of 8 see if that does it?

nope when I change it to the specific version the cron job fails.

How did you change it to the specific version?

I am running 8.0.29, do I have to change it to match the version exactly?

The cron job is running as root, so I believe it would have access.

It should be fine. I'd be surprised if you had multiple 8.0.x versions running on the same server.

Okay. Looking forward to hearing something. This is a definitely problem, and it has been two weeks since you asked a developer to look at this. It is not unreasonable for us to be wondering when some kind of help will be posted.

As has been mentioned, you have a DNS issue.  Multiple DNS issues in fact.

@Lindy mentioned the DMARC problem already.  You also highly likely to have an SPF issue.

You have 11 entries in your SPF records, none include your MX record which is Outlook/365, none include your webhost (if you're directly sending from your host, this can be the issue), and it doesn't appear you have any sort of mailing service like SendGrid set up for SPF either. I'm surprised you can get any e-mails to go out at all.

If it is allowed by IPS, I can look into this for you. My rates are slightly lower than IPSes, but I do not offer IPS support outside of configuring a mail service on your site(s). I only would handle the Mail Deliverability side.  Since I don't believe it is an IPS issue, I may be a better fit for you than IPS's services.

I've just added it to the Cloudflare DNS, it was missing but in the old DNS I was using until a few days ago. Hopefully it'll propogate shortly and I'll be back in the movie! Thanks for your help @CheersnGears 👍

Ah! That'll do it.  I had the same issue when I added Cloudflare.

Honestly, the process was fantastic, and the discussions were numerous. While IPS does want the CIC product to be their primary product, they see the value in being the best self-hosted product on the market as well.

But as they've said for a while, the self-hosted market is changing.  Sites that are "just forums" are not likely to survive long going forward, which is a position I've held for years back when I added IP.Content/Pages as the article management system on my site.  As such, it doesn't make sense to keep the apps as individual products anymore and instead sell the suite as a whole.  It allows IPS to integrate the apps even tighter.

In my view, site owners who run "just a forum" need to sit back and reflect on where the world is today and if such a site makes sense to continue self-host, or just migrate it to Reddit instead. If you are a "just forums" site owner, I would encourage you to look at this change as a chance to grow in new ways with the new apps that you didn't have access to before.  The only limit is your imagination.

IPS published several drafts of the upgrade language to us in the group and we all took turns making suggestions and modifying the language.  While IPS certainly set the guidelines, it was a very collaborative effort between IPS and those of us in the customer focus group. I think every person in the focus group submitted a modification suggestion to IPS and IPS was very receptive towards them.

With regard to how the licensing changes work, especially regarding renewals, it's clear that in order to make sure the self-hosted product is a viable, ongoing product, people who use the software need to chip in. The pool of self-hosted customers has shrunk dramatically over the last years. Making the renewals and catch up fees mandatory was the only way to do that in a fair manner but IPS counters that with lower renewal fees for any site with 2 or more apps.

My relationship with IPS over the last 20-ish years has been strained from time to time, but I have to say that this has been a fantastic experience for me personally.

Or Microsoft making everyone upgrading to a newer Windows version pay the upgrade fees for all the versions between.

Microsoft does exactly that. You can't buy new copies of Win10 anymore, which would give you a free upgrade to Win11. They also made it so that if by chance you started on Win7 and upgraded to Win10, that it is extremely unlikely you'll be able to upgrade to Win11 on the same hardware. It's possible, but the sliver of hardware that is eligible to go to Win11 that started on Win7 is so narrow, that it is likely less than half a percent of all computers out there.   They've effectively made it so that you buy one version and get one version upgrade (not counting service packs) before you have to pay full price again.

@Charles will these license terms affect third party devs? I was blocked on version 4.4 once Velion went awol and left me with a broken design. So why would I renew? As upgrade mostly breaks the designs.. That's mainly my experience, cannot say for someone else.

Not Charles, but your site is not suppose to be frozen in time.   If the template designer went AWOL, look for a new template by a new designer... keeping in mind that going to V5 will completely change the template system and you'll need to update again.

These are just the costs of running a website.
