I have to admit to being a little confused as to what it is you did there. If you did a database restore, it would have brought everything back. I would advise looking at that database restore first of all, as if you are missing something, there is no telling what else you might be missing

    I only have incrementals.

  2. I know I messed up because of the mass move/delete bug. I did a database restore, but I wasn't able to bring everything back.

I know the comments themselves are gone, but I'd like to at least recreate the forum threads where they would reside.

Content -> Databases -> [database name] -> Forums tab suggests that I could rebuild the topic content and it would recreate those missing threads.  It doesn't seem to work.

The category I'm most concerned about and can be used as an example is Ford:

    The Articles category - https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/ford/

    The Forum category - https://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/forum/45-ford/

I can see the background task work through up to 100% and take about 7 minutes to complete, but none of the topics are recreated in the forum. I've run it twice.

  3. Could contain: Page, Text, File

On this field there should also be an option for "posted by anyone EXCEPT [blank]"

The goal of this is that I'm trying to clean up single post threads.  However, since I also use my forums to store Article comments, I don't want to bork the comment sections of those articles.  Since only about 5 of us ever post articles, I could put that list in the delete-excluding field and that would effectively skip an article that got no comments.

Usually that would be as a result of outdated code in a database template somewhere, so would start with reverting and testing those

So I think what happened is that my server was having some ill-timed disk write issues. Moves and Copies were failing. Permissions were getting screwed up.  I restarted the server and re-uploaded the files and was able to get back in via safe mode and put things back together again.

Have a look in the `core_log` table, order it by newest and see if there's anything logged for the AdminCP URL. You should see something indicating what the issue is.

Apparently, just your mere presence was enough to frighten Safe Mode into working because as soon as you replied, I was able to get into recovery mode. 😂

The log is full of variations of:

    "TypeError: flock(): Argument #1 ($stream) must be of type resource, bool given (0) #0 /home/ddowdell/public_html/cheersandgears.com/system/Theme/Cache/Template.php(90): flock(false, 1) #"

    and

    Error: Call to undefined method IPS\Lang::recordWord() (0) #0 /home/ddowdell/public_html/cheersandgears.com/applications/cms/sources/Theme/Theme.php(610) : eval()'d code(3061)

That wouldn't be worth it as most people have Gmail / Outlook. On the main post, we'd have to pay for it, but I believe if IPS supports a feature like this, it will bring more clients as it hasn't heard of forum software supporting this. This is something i'd love to use!!

It's not an IPS thing at all.  They have zero control over your site logo being trademarked. It's a file upload to root and a DNS change.  What exactly would you have IPS do?

  7. @beats23 - you can install BIMI without getting the certificate, but not all mail clients will recognize it that way, gmail and outlook being two that won't. EMClient and other lesser known ones might. EMClient seems to.

You'll need to get your logo into a very specific SVG format and upload it to the root of your website and then install the DNS tag, so it's relatively low effort if you want to try.

  8. So I have a notice in my ACP that my license is up for renewal on the 14th.  Fine, I click renew now and it takes me to the client area.

The problem is, there's nothing in the Client Area for me to click to actually renew and no indication of what I need to do.  Trying to give you guys money here... help me out.

Coming back to this because it's still a big issue, and my server tech says he is not an e-mail specialist and cannot fix it. I've sent a PM to @CheersnGears but have heard nothing back and assume he's moved on. Any chance that anyone here has a recommendation for anyone that I can contact to help solve this issue? Thanks.

I'm back. Just had a few bumps.

    I'll respond to your PM.

My host saying, they can migrate my server to Ubuntu 20.04...

My question is which one is better Ubuntu 20.04 OR AlmaLinux 8????

    Any recommendation?

Are you using WHM/CPanel?  Ubuntu 20.04 has the longer time left on its support cycle (early 2025) , however, WHM/CPanel on Ubuntu is still fairly new and it feels like the WHM crew is scrambling a little bit to cover this transition.  Alma was supported by WHM nearly right out of the box and is a drop in replacement for Cent, however, Alma 8 Active support ends in May 2024.

If Alma 9 is an option, support there lasts until May 2027.

Doesn’t make sense to me. If I’ve already captured the reader, I could encourage him/her to sign up and follow my site, on my actual site. Or, I could send him/her packing and hope he/she follows my site  on CH and doesn’t find too much other content. Everyone’s time is limited. Sending someone away, where there is competing content, makes no sense to me.

Visiting forums is not a zero sum game.  In fact, if we cooperated more closely as site admins, we’d do better than we do now. I am already looking at ways to use community hive to work with sites similar to my own to cite topics of interest on other sites on my own site
I’m a general car news site but I can see me citing Pontiac Forums on my site when I see a particularly interesting topic.

It would be a topic of discussion for my users and send some traffic to the Pontiac forums guy. Ideally other sites would do the same.

I think it’s a mistake to be jealous of our traffic to other sites at our level. We are not Facebook. Sure, keep traffic from Facebook, but share amongst us smaller-than-Facebook sites. We’ve had very good results from sharing traffic with “competitors”

    Hi, again!

Following up on this -- and I'm not the server guy here. I have a guy who handles this and have showed him everything posted here.

He says he did everything suggested. We ran the tests, and still the same problems happening.

I wrote again to double-check that all was done, and this is the response I've gotten back.

Could contain: File, Page, Text, Webpage

Does this seem like everything that should have fixed this issue?

Thanks again for all the help.

you really should just put +MX in your SPF instead of zoho.com
