I'm not sure what you're on about with the disappearing posts: This topic went on for quite some time and got really vocal until it eventually started winding down and the author asked for it to be locked. If posts from unhappy customers are removed, then that topic should definitely be gone..

I've been a customer of IPB since 2004. Next month will be our 5 year anniversary. We have a large board/gallery/blog and use Parachat, as well. Throughout the five years, we have consistently received outstanding support from IPB. At this point, I can not imagine trying to run my business without them. Getting the supported solution (we have our own IPB supported server) was one of the smartest business decisions I made.

Example: We were having issues with our database off and on during the past few weeks. Despite all of the upgrade madness going on at the moment, the guys (especially Jason and Blake) kept at the issue until they found what was behind the crazy symptoms. Of course, they fixed it. They listen to my feedback about what is going on and use that as a starting point to dig into the problem.

As a note to new customers: During this extremely busy time, I would highly recommend that if you find it is necessary to put in an emergency ticket requiring immediate attention(such as having database errors which essentially take you offline, having errors that can't be worked around while you are in the pile, or if you have your board disappear from the planet), it can help things move along a little better if you put in the ticket AND call the support phone number and explain what's going on. IPB will then pull your ticket out of that massive pile of upgrade requests and issues they are currently wading through and get to work on it. (Normally, this is not necessary.)

Of course, it is best to only tell them that you have an emergency if you actually have an emergency.

As another note: I've never seen them as busy as they have been during this 3.0 upgrade. Typically, my support tickets are turned around immediately. I've always been so happy and now my members consider them part of our team. All I have to do is tell them that I've put in a ticket with support and they begin congratulating me for having such a great team... as if I was personally taking care of it for them. Nice.

So don't worry... the turn-around time will go back to normal once it is over. I'm not worried at all.

After this last round of fixes, I felt that it was time to publicly tell the entire IPB support team, "NICE JOB!"

Nah, just would be nice if that happened.

If IPS wants to give me a gift, then they could upgrade all my current licenses to be lifetime (even though the add ons never had lifetime options). Or they could just give me a free renewal on the expired IP.Board license that I have. :D

I run a Colostomy support message board where patients help each other with support and advice of dealing with a colostomy, be it for a few weeks temporarily, of permanently due to cancer etc. My board also has a pretty large off topic posting community contained within it.

I would very much like to be able to disable post reputation in the off-topic forums, so that reputation is based on supportive posts to users needing support in our ostomy-support forums, rather than from posting cute pics of the dog with a toy in the off topic forums.

So, that's my suggestion for a future build of IP Board. It would really make my community better. I did ask in peer to peer if this was possible with current settings etc, and was told it was worthwhile posting a request in here. :)

Another possible feature, which would be useful in cases of the reputation system being abused is a setting that lets ONLY the Original Poster being able to vote as to which replies/posts have been useful to them.

Many thanks for reading this. I hope those ideas are useful to you. :)

    Best wishes to all,

    Jason Dale.

It is not intended for people with a license :)

Licenses start at $149.99 and cost $25 every 6 months - for very small boards, this is expensive - whereas $10 per month is much more feasible.

The new IPB is so much smoother and more efficient than the previously released ones. It is much faster and better on the eyes for me. I think that you did a great job on this and I congratulate you on your release.

I'd like the ability to create custom messages to be displayed at the top of the board if the member viewing the board meets certain conditions. Example: If member's posts is equal to 0, display message "You have not yet made a post, we encourage you to get involved, etc...". Show congratulatory posts when they reach a certain post count, show a certain message to users in a specific user groups, happy birthday, message regarding inactivity and encouraging the user to participate more, if user is using default skin let them know other skins are availalbe, etc... I think it would just create a more personalized and friendly experience for the user in some cases if the admin wanted to use it that way.

So by default include a large amount of conditions, posts, join date, last active date, is in user group, date, inactivity time, post count between x and y, currently browsing x forum, etc... and be able to create multiple messages and use multiple conditions. I think it's also important that the user be able to "close" the message then save to DB, and perhaps make that a setting per-message "can the user close this message?". Be good to close if you set a message about other skins being available and they're happy with the default skin, but you wouldn't want it to close if the user has not yet made a post or hasn't been active.

I know this can all be achieved through skin edits and using the html logic, and now just PHP in the templates in IPB 3.0. But the templates start to get messy with all those skin edits, and can be difficult to maintain. Also, a lot of users aren't tech savvy enough to use HTML and PHP to display the messages they want. I think this would be very useful.

Yes, we added that in. I wrote a function called IPSLib::wait( $seconds ). We felt that life was moving too fast and wanted to slow it down a bit. We think that huge delays in serving up webpages will be a popular feature. Even Google will do the same one day. Just imagine, having to wait for 5 seconds for your search results. I know, it's a crazy concept but I think many will appreciate it.

We suggest you think about a loved one or task to do in that 5 seconds. Maybe take a peek out of the nearest window. Your choice, really. We're giving you the gift of time, it's up to you how you spend it.

Generally when Charles notifies me he has found a bug, I go hunt it down (because he's usually reported it by that time) and mark it working as intended or not a bug.

Then I go back and try to fix it later.

Ditchmonkey, thanks for the positive feedback. It's great to know that we're able to provide you with a standard of service you're pleased with - we know how important these things are and we appreciate all the tickets, calls and topics like this from you guys telling us we're doing a good job.

Although, I really don't think it's appropriate to start making digs at Jelsoft here, they get enough of that on their own forums.
