Yes, you can keep the ranks and icons, and just import rules and badges

we have nearly 800,000 images, if we paused the gallery then they would just use photobucket instead and still not name them
We also have a monthly photo competition, members nominate other peoples photos to be included and we then have to go hunting for the image information, it's time consuming and sometimes we have to ask the owner of the photo which then ruins the surprise of finding out that they have been nominated

Jelly Belly™ reacted to sadams101 in Addition of "Reply" Only Option
Since it literally happens several times a day on my forum from different users, so I would not say that I have a unique problem. Again, most people don't need to quote at all, but that is the only option they see to reply to a post they might be reading. Just a simple reply button that takes them to the reply field would solve this.
I actually just corrected a post where the user hit quote and reply, then erased all the quote and put in their own reply within the quote field area...very frustrating.

It is not only optional. It is difficult to find for users. Our users upload a single image and then cannot find the field for the caption. They do not understand that they have to upload, then click on the uploaded image, then fill the caption, then submit. I would prefer a simple GUI for single upload, where the user is forced to give caption AND description for the image.
We are going to pause our gallery with 39,000 images and 350,000 comments because of this problem. Indeed, images cannot be found, moderators are tired of editing the captions and descriptions.
I hope there will be a better solution in v5.

Without enforced image renaming  from the default file name during the upload it renders the search for images redundant

if for instance I'm on a car forum and I want to search the gallery for a specific make and model of car but all of the images are called DSCwhatevever.jpg then I'm not going to get many results

ATM renaming images is optional, personally I'd prefer to make it a condition of uploading to storage space that I'm paying for, whilst I'm grateful for the content it would be better if it was in a usable format, as it is, once an un named image has left the latest image feed it will probably never be seen again

Just a shout out to Team Invision:
We upgraded a site running 4.2.4 (how old is that?) today to the current version of 4.7.15 and it went really smooth.  The site has about 20,000 members (not sure how many topics), but the upgrade didn't take long at all. 😍
We have two big sites running 4.3.6, which we're going to upgrade this week too!

If you delete a member and leave their content attributed to "guest", google webmaster tools for these urls will show you:

Not a big issue but maybe add a default user page for guest posts? Maybe a guest user profile/url, sort of "catch all". Just an idea.

I have a pet peeve, images uploaded to our gallery display their file name as the title. For example a member uploads their image and doesn't change the title image, so it then displays something like DSC2849.jpg instead of for example "Oak Cabinet".
I have rules displayed for image uploading in each gallery, but they are apparently ignored. Is there any way to auto enforce changing the title of an image uploaded to our galleries? Our community is gallery and image heavy, visual arts. It drives me crazy that folks are lazy and just use their default image file title. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, unfortunately, those will require 1 by 1 removal.

Jelly Belly™ got a reaction from panzerscope in Members having multiple subscriptions possible?
I sell subscriptions as virtual products, annual membership and life membership and allow multiple purchases of annual membership which stack up, as one expires the next one kicks in and if members purchase annual membership to the value of a lifetime in a 12 month period then they are promoted to lifetime

They keep renewing because we include merchandise such as sticker packs and t shirts with each subscription.

Apart from merch we don't sell anything via commerce so once I work out what effect switching to the subscription function will have on existing subscribers if they want to subscribe again I'll make the switch and turn commerce off

Use my support topic to get any info or confirmations. IPS closed MP here so we need to use our own systems to provide it.
    Thanks for understanding!

Jelly Belly™ reacted to Jim M in Invision Community v4 vs v5 and hosted vs cloud
Invision Community version 5 is not out yet. It will be available for both Cloud and Self-hosted (note the license name has changed to "Classic" which may be confusing you). Version 4 will be still supported for a 1-2 years after the release of version 5. Just version 4 will not see many, if any, new features. We want to make that transition period as easy as possible.
Anything in particular making you nervous? Think the biggest improvement would be less to worry about. Don't have to do PHP upgrades, MySQL upgrades, etc... we handle that for you.

IPS used to have a nice chat app a few years back. I do like this one and would agree, it would make a nice feature independent of live topics. Hopefully live topics doesn't see the same fate that IPS Chat did in terms of lack of usage.

Some forum software lets you fiddle the online count by editing the whose online timeout, it used to be a thing in IPB3 too

Go to one of those "busy" sites on other platforms, hover over the usernames and you'll see that many of the online users were last active 3 days ago 🤣
