sound Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 (edited) Anyone at invision explain the thinking behind these two sets of statements... Commerce Deprecation Commerce Help Feature - Now, there are many email support desk solutions that are a significant improvement on what Commerce offers... ...we made the decision to deprecate the support desk feature Commerce Sales Feature - ...physical product sales have now been deprecated and are much better handled by specialist services such as Shopify. versus New Courses and Lessons Feature The Courses app is not going to try to be a full LMS. Not trying to run a university here 🙂 As I see it invision are... Getting rid of 2 features (that I use heavily) with the reason being you can get better commercial versions elsewhere Whilst adding one new feature (that I have no use for) even though you can get better commercial versions elsewhere All a bit conflicting to me Plus while here, may as well ask, will the cost of commerce go down now as it will be a lesser product for self hosted packages? Management Charles Posted March 15, 2023 Management Posted March 15, 2023 We are focusing on things that will impact the widest varieties of communities. I know it can be confusing when something you use is not available and something you do not use is made available. We simply have to look at the widest impact we can make with our resources and client needs 😀

And not added in self-hosted version as well? Their are many full fledge LMS system that can easily run on self-hosted environment, so why can't your one do the same, even if it's half the product of a full fledge system. 😕
Management Charles Posted March 17, 2023 Management Posted March 17, 2023 We may bring Courses to Classic in the future. For the moment, Courses is a value addition to those on our cloud platform. Askancy and Daddy 2

I don't mind not having the features which are dependent on the tech that's for the cloud. I really need an app that members can use to sell courses on my site. Similar to the downloads app, where the site owners receive a percentage from the sale. My site is very young and small, and I just can't afford your cloud package that has all the applications I need. JustinHawk, Grafidea and DamonT 3

Wait.. wait.. wait... Physical goods and the support ticket system are going away? Are we going to be able to add Shopify and Zendesk to the cloud system or do we need to integrate a whole bunch of services that basically defeat the entire purpose of a cloud suite? I have much less need for a paid lesson market than helping a user with a question. PersonalMode 1
beats23 Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 I also use the commerce app to sell services where someone can upload a file to be edited. My contact us bottom is run by the commerce help support feature. IPS taking away these two important feature will affect my website negatively. PersonalMode and AlexJ 1 1

We will be further integrating with external services, as Matt mentioned, to further fill this gap.

I've also been using the support in the Commerce app, and especially selling physical items for years (IP.Nexus). Removing these features is very damaging to my community. I'm not interested in using third-party services. The advantage of the Commerce app was the integration into the community without updating problems. The result is that IPS will lose money because I will remove the Commerce app from my suite.

Management Matt Posted April 28, 2023 Management Posted April 28, 2023 It likely got merged into one of the other topics on the subject.

For the moment I understand that due to technical limitations, LiveTopics and the like cannot easily be brought onto the self-hosted versions. But I find it cheeky to make this feature cloud exclusive again. The self-hosted versions also cost a lot of money. The cloud solution is not suitable for everyone, some depend on running the software in their own environment. Slowly, the feeling is spreading that "classic" customers are no longer wanted.
