Mature content section, etc.
by Guest Strange_Will- 7 replies

I would love to be able to set up forums to require certian values in the members profile (birthdate > value, admin only field = 1, etc) It would be nice to say only let people of a certian age in, or a special group of members with certian profile values only mods can change, or people that have certian fields actually filled out... A neat feature I'd think.

Small organization 'clean-up

Just a small suggestion to 'tidy' up the sources folder. The /components folders are hardly ever modified (when they are, it's for installing a compon}. But just suggesting that one 'component' folder is created and the current folders (with component in the name) be put in. It might tidy up thje /sources folder a bit,

Remove Poll Vote Limit
by Guest Nydendarin- 9 replies
- 3.2k views
Is there any way to remove the number of times a user can vote on a poll? My reasoning is this. I was asked to hold a 'voting' session, for a student orginziation at my school. They want the voting to be limited to that location, hosted on a school-wide message board, but don't want to have to make users register before they vote. So my plan was, to create one user account, with special privliges so only that user in that usergroup can see the 'voting poll' section. Then I create a poll in there, log on all the laptops at the 'voting location' with that user account, and have them sit down, vote, and leave. But, as is currently with my IPB install, each user account ca…

Asynchronous File Uploads
by Guest K. T. Walrus- 6 replies

It would be a nice feature for users if IPB (and the Gallery and any other product that uploads files) supported showing a progress bar for file uploads using AJAX. I found this solution on the web http://tomas.epineer.se/tesupload/ which shows a technique to do this. I've more than once wondered when uploading a big attachment over a slow internet connection whether it was working or not. This solution uses a small Perl script to check the current size of the uploading file in order to show the progress bar.

Setting For Closing Time
by Guest TestingSomething- 5 replies
- 2.4k views
I think I have suggested this since even before 2.1, but probably not officially. The feature where an admin can set a topic to close at a future time automatically... should be a group setting. This way we could allow certain groups to make a contest and have it auto close at some deadline, where the OP would not have to be on the site to be sure nobody submits something late, for example.

MySQL backup... looping?
by Guest Strange_Will- 3 replies
- 2.3k views
I run a fairly slow server, and the MySQL backup always fails (300 second time out), it would be nice if it was like when you delete a lot of posts or something, where it loops through x queries, saves them in a file, loads you the page, and continues on. Or am I the only one that can't back up their database? :P

IPS Branding on board downloads 1 2
by Guest Antony- 29 replies
- 13.4k views
I'd like to see both the favicon included with each download removed and the "(Powered by Invision Power Board)" in every page title removed. I understand that the Favicon spreads your company logo around a bit, and the title helps increase your search engine rank. But, I do think that it makes what could be a very easy upgrade somewhat of an annoyance. It might sound lazy of me that I cannot delete a favicon and edit a PHP file, but it would make my life that bit easier. :) Of course I understand and accept completly if IPS doesn't wish to do this. :)

Hide redirect forums from search
by Guest Loren- 1 reply

It would be nice to be able to hide redirect forums from the search drop-down list. I've had at least a couple of users tell me they have tried to search those (redirect) forums and get no results.

Multi Moderation: AutoClose (Delay)
by Guest Michael P- 9 replies
- 2.1k views
A lot of Multi Moderation things used mainly add a reply and close a topic (like here for support requests). Sometimes the topic poster is new to IPB and IPS, and may wish to reply to the MM reply - as they might not understand - and having a topic closed can be a pain if they want to do that. So enter my suggestion (which I think many sites may find useful) Instead of having the MM close the topic, have it set a delay on closing it, e.g. 24 hours, 1 hour (admin settable) so someone can reply and say "Oh thanks" or "I cant email the sales address because it bounces back to me" or what ever, but after the time delay, the topic closes for constistency.

Subscription Features Request
by Guest ptrader- 0 replies
- 1.3k views
Some of these may be new and radical and some may not. First of all, let me describe my use of the subscription system for a non-profit organization. First, I request members complete an html membership application, which most do. It requires many more fields than the IPB registration fields provide (yes, I could add custom fields, will do it someday.) Then the register for the forums, picking their subscription package. Once registered, they are supposed to log in and complete the payment process by selecting either snail mail or paypal payments. Our choke point is getting them to log in again for the payment feature. 40% or more have to be reminded to do that. - …

Caching?
by Guest Voltemort- 8 replies
- 2.7k views
When a topic/forum/page/something on the board gets much too much traffic it would be nice to have an option to cache it. The caching could be in the form of complete HTML dump, where when someone visits say, topic id 200, board will redirect the user to forum/cache/topic-200.html. Another usefull option would be topic redirection. Say, a moderator deletes topic 204. When someone visits that topic from URL (which is very likely, if the page was indexed on google), instead of getting a nasty incorrect use of board files, he could be redirected to a url specified by the moderator/admin. I noticed the need for caching when one of my articles which was posted on my forum go…

Request: Do not increment membership count for membership requests tha
by Guest HPHubbard- 10 replies
- 3.4k views
My forum has 410 members and the 410th member has a member count of 590 which means that you are including those who I have not validated. (Yes, the spammers have found me, but they can't get IN.) If I don't validate someone they should not ever be considered a member and therefore the membership count should not be incremented. Please consider changing this in a future release. Thank you.

Select All Topics
by Guest MasumX- 2 replies

Is it possible to add a little "Check" mark in the empty place right after "Last Action" and above those check marks....so you can select all topics at once and delete or whatever the hell you want to do with them. But, select only the topics of the page you're viewing currently not all pages. and since it's empty it might as well get filled with something that may come in handy sometimes. Forgot to mention to acutally have something to also "UNCHECK" ALL AT ONCE! it's annoying to uncheck one by one ...grrrr

color scemes in "easy color change" mode
by Guest IPS Heather- 4 replies

how about a feature that could auto-populate css fields with variations of primary colors. For instance, a drop down menu with red, blue, green, and yellow. Choosing the red primary color sceme would populate the CSS fields with variations of red for the background, rows, columns, etc. Nifty feature for the not so technically inclined!!! :)

IPB just is not good when it comes to searching
by Guest rakaposhi- 18 replies
- 4.5k views
IPB just is not good when it comes to searching. The software is not upto scratch against the likes of VB which I think has a far superior search, which is also integrated much better. I loathe how you have to click on the search button every time you need to search - or scroll to the bottom of a forum/thread. The slick drop-down search in VB is miles better. bfarber has said this is just a 5min skin change for admins to make... yes, correct, but IPB must improve the search as a default thing, so we dont have to go skinning things around. Please incorporate this - the current way of searching doesn't cut it. and something really needs to be done about how the search doe…

[ Close Posts ] [ with selected ( ) ]
by Guest UBERHOST.NET- 8 replies

We can Merge, Move, Delete, and toggle post visibility, but I'd love the ability to close individual posts to lock them from tampering after one of my moderators has edited a message. What sometimes happens is that a moderator will spot an offensive post, then edit it and send a warning to the offending member. The poster may then go back and re-edit his post to remove remarks left by the moderator. I'd like to put an end to that. If a moderator can lock an individual message then his comments can not be tampered with, so if this is not already a feature under consideration, please think about adding it? :)

Single-topic moderators
by Guest Arancaytar- 2 replies
- 1.6k views
There are situations when a certain member "takes care" of a specific topic (as the host of a debate, or the Dungeon Master of a roleplay, or even just regularly updating an announcement topic), but is not actually part of the board's staff. Creating a new forum dedicated to this thread is a bit over the top, especially when there are many such threads. This would make it useful to be able to give moderator privileges not just for an entire forum, but also for single topics.
