It would be nice to say only let people of a certian age in, or a special group of members with certian profile values only mods can change, or people that have certian fields actually filled out...

The problem with age related mods is that people lie. You have no way of knowing how old they are, and if they see special 'age' sections they'll be signing up again with the 'right' age to gain access.

Well and under 13 users can fake as over 13 to get around COPPA (or whatever that is). I mean if you really want to, sure, but then I'm not responsible. :P


It was just another random idea, you could also use it for custom fields and such.

I would like to see this too. It would be so much easier if there was an admin only field in the profile that we could set to allow access to a forum, rather than over-riding their permission mask.

For example, say I want to allow certain members access to a *special* forum. I want to hand-pick these members. As it stands an admin would have to manually over-ride their permission masks, wouldn't it be so much easier if we couls just set an "admin-only-custom-profile-field" to "yes" to allow such access?

I would like to see it not only in an 'adult' format, persay, but board wide to where if someone selects "Yes" or "No" in a custom-field, it automatically updates their account to override it to the new permissions. I know many places where this could be very useful and much easier than updating many users account's.

Not for the developer, and not for the server. Matt would have to add in more code to check whether a member has the proper permissions at 3 levels instead of the already flexible 2, and it would create a greater strain on the server by checking different areas for the same information.

Don't see any reason why this feature shouldn't be implemented.

It's the way of the web mate, but if we show due diligence, then we should be held harmless if there's any fallout later. I think it's a great thing to implement.
