Redo/Rebuild BBCode System
by Guest Luke- 8 replies
- 3.8k views
(Note: This also increases performance of the forum by reducing, or even removing, custom bbcode being done on the fly for each post and signature when viewing a topic, etc. Also integrates Custom BBCode and Built in BBCode into one system.) One of biggest concerns I have with IPB is built-in BBCode and Custom BBCode (in adminCP). You really have severly limited control over the custom bbcode, and zero (if not minimum) control over the built in BBCode. The biggest problem with Custom BBCode is it's done on-the-fly. This means that every time a post is loaded, it's done on signatures and posts, and each code is parsed whether it's present or not. Plus, custom bbcode pl…

FEATURE REQUEST: Thread closing after specified duration
by Guest adam_sh- 4 replies
- 1.8k views
I'm a registered customer with a feature request: Many of the problems I have in my forum are the result of newbies or spammers searching through the forum and replying to a hundred threads that are 2 years old. I called Invision support and they said the only option I have is to manually close every thread - this is just not an efficient way to accomplish this, with the traffic coming through my forum. Please, implement the ability to close a thread after a specified date. Ideally this would be under the permissions or options of each forum. Something like: Threads can be responded to within: [ ] days of last post I would really like to see this feature implemented …

Hello, Have you guys at Invision played around with http://sphinxsearch.com ??? I've found it interesting but I do not know the innards of IPB well enough to adapt it to my forum. Maybe you can post a step by step tutorial here how to adapt http://sphinxsearch.com for IPB 2.1.6 http://sphinxsearch.com can use both MyISAM and InnoDB. Imagine: Full Text Search on InnoDB (row locking) !!! Wow! Wow! Wow! Please help me install this thing.

File Writing Change
by Guest MrsSim- 13 replies

Following this topic, I think IPB may have to have its file writing system changed. Perhaps you could change it so it could only write with permission from the admin (and ask for FTP details)?

It would be nice to have a feature that will let only one user to select one avatar so members can not use the same one. Recently I had trouble with 2 members using the same avatar :)

Secret forums 1 2
by Guest BIG TIME- 31 replies
- 9.1k views
I'd like to have a way to have a forum that exists, but you can't get to it by any link or drop down menu on the board. It would be for logged in memebrs, but they would have to manually type in the show forum= number to see it. It would also be helpful to be able to change the forum number to something with three or four digits to prevent accidental discovery of it. I like this idea better than having a password protected forum. I'd also like a way for moderators to be able to create forums without having access to the ACP.

Activity logs
by Guest K. T. Walrus- 4 replies
- 2.2k views
This has probably been suggested before, but I would like to see an option for an activity log which appends a line for each page load to a log file on the server. This would show time, ip_address, member id, member name, the url query string, and shortened POST data (for text fields that are too long just log the first N chars). I know the server logs have basically this information (although member names aren't shown directly), but it would be nice to be able to check this file to see what a member did while on the board. A circular log (if that is possible in PHP) could be an option so that only the last so many megabytes were kept in the file.

Duplicate attachments
by Guest dyelton- 0 replies
- 1.3k views
Currently when you make a post with an attachment and insert the [attachment=xxx] line into the post you can then copy the image location by right clicking the image for example and copying the link. You can then paste this link into another post and have that attachment show up. Since you can do this why can't you simply copy the [attachment=xxx] code into a new post and have that image show up? Not a post within the same thread but I'm talking a new thread elsewhere on the forum. I know the code is in the database so why doesn't Invision pull it out? Seems like this would be an easy thing to do.

Manage Validating -> Logs
by Guest Logan- 1 reply

In manage validating when members are approved, the log looks like this: # Members Approved When registrations are denied, it looks like this: Denied Queued Registrations Could you also add the # of denied registrations in the delete registrations log? Ex: # Member Registrations Denied, maybe also change the approval log for consistency to # Member Registrations Approved.

Emoticons area needs work
by Guest Kman_- 20 replies
- 6.4k views
Some features I suggest implementing for the emoticon area: 1. Different emoticon groups. What's the point of having different emoticon folders if only one of them works? You should be able to organise the smilies into different groups. 2. Reorder smilies. Simple scroll-down boxes like used with the reorder forums would be a sensible idea. You should also be able to reorder the different smilie groups, if the groups idea is implemented. 3. Ability to move smilies between different folders. Say I uploaded a smilie and accidentally put it in the wrong folder. I should be able to move it to another folder. Not necessary, but good as an extra: 4. Permissions for…

Inline mod boxes in Search results
by Guest cnm- 0 replies
- 1.4k views
It would be way cool if the page showing search results had mod boxes on the right, so that some or all of the result topics could be modded inline. There are things we do at our forum, such as move all the topics that contain a certain keyword, that would be so much easier if we didn't have to mod them one by one.

Mod CP
by Guest Cherrymenthol- 14 replies
- 5.9k views
OK, I am sure this has been brought up more than once. The moderator CP is used in most forum software, It is a useful bit of kit that is good for managing members, keeping track of warnings etc. I think that it should be re-introduced in a future version of IPB; in a similar format to the ACP, tabs etc, but just with moderator controls instead. A lot of the member mod controls in IPB are spread all over the place, so I personally think if moderators can do all this in one place, like admins do, it would make their lives a lot easier, and give them the ability to moderate more efficiently. What do you think?

forum collapse in admin cp!
by Guest cam drysdale- 2 replies

I think it would be really awesome if admins could choose to have certain forums collapsed by default via selecting "open" or "collapse" in the settings for forums in the admin cp. as a quick edit: if Matt decides he doesnt want to do this, can someone create a mod???

Simple Task
by Guest Luke- 0 replies
- 1.4k views
Thought of this when talking to logan about something unrelated... Funny how you think of these things... Anyway.... You know when you add a task in adminCP? You choose a php file in the /sources/tasks/ folder? Well how about a query task... A simple task where you simply put a mySQL query into a box and that's your task. No need for a php file. Of cource only root admin would have the ability to edit/add these tasks, would save a lot of time when you want to automatically prune a certain table every once in a while.

Classifieds
by Guest bpn- 8 replies
- 2.4k views
As lot's of forums we have a classified section. But it's a pain to maintain since the users are not able to delete and modify their ads. (We have to restrict this on our main forums) Are there any plans to make delete/edit configurable at forum basis? We have considered PhotoPost Classifieds, this integrates with the IPB user database. Anyone who have experience with Photopost? Are there other alternatives?

a few more suggestons.

I would like to suggest a few more things hopefuly to go into the next version ov IPB. I was loking rhough the latest vB version of what they are putting in 3.6. and would like to suggest atleast 3 of the many issues on the new vB release.. Signature upload There is one for avatars so why not signatures lol. I think this would be a great feture to have on invision board. Sig Limit per usergroup This would allow the admin to set image sizes. seperet option: allow userbars ( flash or GIF animiated) seporat option: Test limits so say Alow signatures for this group if Yes this group will be allowed to upload a signature to the board or post their one Allow Use…

Edit forum title and description from board index - AJAX
by Guest Logan- 12 replies
- 3.6k views
I think it'd be a nice feature if you had the ability to edit the forum title and description from the board index via ajax, the same way you edit a topic title or description from the forum index. I find it time consuming to log in to the ACP just to make small changes like this, or if you have a lot of forums you want to edit. Of course adding the correct checks to make this only available to root admins, and regular admins who have permission to edit forums (content:forum:edit).

Add option for compressed cached CSS files
by Guest K. T. Walrus- 5 replies
- 2.6k views
Here is an idea that I just had when looking into compressing my very large (>44KBs) CSS file. Why not change the Skin Manager to save two versions of the css file: [*]css_3.css, and [*]css_3.php <?php ob_start ("ob_gzhandler"); header("Content-type: text/css; charset: iso-8859-1"); header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate"); $offset = 60 * 60; $ExpStr = "Expires: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s", time() + $offset) . " GMT"; header($ExpStr); ?> And then, add a setting to import css_3.php instead of css_3.css (so the admin could choose whether to use the compressed version or not). You could also just tie this to the gzip setting to avoid yet another set…

IPB 2.2 Suggestions - Long List 1 2 3
by Guest Luke- 64 replies

- Multiple Choice & Public Poll's A multiple choice and public poll option would be nice to have... This was done in the modification linked below. The only limitation to this mod was when a poll is edited and public poll is turned on, the list of who voted for what gets cleared. The member list needs to be displayed and preserved, and at the same time not allowing the person editing to change who voted for what. Links: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=189252 (has pics) http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/5339 - Members Online Today This is an important resource for communities starting out.
