One of the most important issues facing Vbulletin forum owners thinking about switching to IPB is the reaction from the users. If the user experience changes too much, we could really upset our user base. I am happy to report that since going live with my IPB conversion yesterday, I have had a lot of good feedback on the switch. However, there is one feature that many of my users, and myself, are missing from Vbulletin: in Vbulletin when a user visits the site, all threads that have new posts since the users last visit are highlighted in bold in the forum view. This is a great feature and my users really liked it. I'm hoping that IPB will consider implementing this to …

Thought I'd take a few minutes out to compliment IPS and the technical support staff for some excellent service I've received this past week. I've been a license holder for 5 years now and in that time it has been very rare that I've had to use support, I've either had no serious issues or any I have had I've been able to fix myself. However since upgrading to 3.0.x I've had two semi-serious problems, one with converting old PMs into the new personal conversation format and the other to do with my IP.Board skin mysteriously getting b0rked. Both problems were dealt with in a timely manner and one in particular was escalated to tier II in an agreeable timeframe. Overall…

Tonight I was updating my user profile when I got the message that x field was required. I entered info into that field, submit, then found that the original changes had been lost to the other fields. This needs to work a little better than this.

If polls are not properly set up, the topic is posted normally, but without the poll. This can be frustrating to users that are not familiar with forum software who may not understand why their poll wasn't created. Please make incorrect poll options (like, no choices given for the question, question deleted, etc) give error messages when the post new topic button is pressed

This has been bothering my the part of me that's OCD since beta...what's up with the logo? Why does the text say "IPBoard" rather than "IP.Board" like it used to in 2.3?

I'm nearing the release of an app that will show some extra member variables in topics/messages/etc and I'm beginning to look at what will need to go into showing this data in the userinfopane. I noticed that all the data is coming from that 'members' join in topics.php, so I suppose I would need to edit that to include the new fields (since it would be impossible to use an action overloader to do it, unless I wanted to overwrite the entire thing), so I figured I'd ask... any chance that in a future version that join can simply use a wildard(*) instead of specific fields? I'm sure this won't be the last app to need to access custom fields in this deparment, and what wit…

I can't seem to figure out how to set up an RSS feed that is specific to the member. On my board, the members are restricted to viewing different content (some members can view some content while others might be restricted but could view other content. So, my suggestion is to implement an authenticated RSS feed that is restricted to topic posts that the member has permission to view. I'm not sure if there is a standard way to implement this, but I could see the RSS feed having a key that is specific to the member and that IPB remembers the last IP Address that the member used to access the board. Then, the RSS feed could check that the IP Address of the RSS feed mat…

Sometimes the error messages thrown by IPB can be a little bit abrupt and not very user friendly. Particularly those that involve viewing permissions. Perhaps these could be made to be a bit more helpful to the end user in a future version? For example instead of the current "[#103139] You do not have permission to view this forum." how about offering up some reasons as to why this might be the case. e.g "not logged in" followed by links to register or log in. etc.

Can anyone tell me why I'm seeing these message boxes? They are rotating/refreshing themselves with different messages.

I know a lot of people have requested a tags feature for posts. I don't really see the long term value in this as the majority of non technical users would ignore this. Where I see "tags" as useful is tagging of entities IPS have a suite of community products so this would fit very well indeed and start to move forward the traditional forum software which let's face it hasn't really evolved a great deal in recent years. So what if you could tag members in posts/galleries/blog entries calendar events etc..? Say somebody writes a post about another member they (or somebody else) then tag it with that members name who is notified they have been talked about. Facebook do …

There is a minor issue with the "Active Content". When you click on the link on the bottom of the forum it gives the posts that have been active over the last 24 hrs...but if you chose the active content for the week it shows you that there are a few pages of posts then when you click on any of the other pages it goes back to the 24 hrs screen then it does not show any posts.

Hello, Are there any tutorials about adding strings in the 'Manage Languages' in ACP? I want to add strings for Blogs/Calendar/Gallery, etc. I don't want to add strings into the language .php files directly and I also don't want to rename them simply in the 'Applications & Modules', because this way doesn't support multilanguages. Thanks!

I'd love to see this feature so that I can literally only type in my Google Analytics code, and it will automatically integrated. I mean, this should be a VERY easy thing to add. Heck, even a place where I can enter in the whole set of code would be great. I don't know if this is being discussed as a new feature or not, but I'd sure appreciate the system just handling any template modifications for me, in stead of me having to do them. :) Thanks!

The following files were customized by IPB staff for my 3.01 installation: admin/applications/forums/extensions/furlTemplates.php public/js/ipb.js It would be helpful to know if either of these files has changed for 3.02 so that I don't have to reapply the customizations if its not necessary.

I'm subscribed to the Site news in my Google Reader, and every now and then, the whole lot of your news comes in at once. For instance, 3 hours ago, I had all of your recent news (last 10 items of something). I had the same about a week ago, and some time before then. It's really annoying, because I've already seen these feed items.

Just found out you can't import RSS feeds maintained at Feedburner! This is the error you get while trying to import the official Feedburner RSS feed: Could not open http://feeds.feedburner.com/BurnThisRSS2?format=xml to locate channels. Feedburner is very popular, so I'm quite astonished to find out IPB doesn't support it. Support should really be added.

IPB 3 provides the framework for some pretty sophisticated applications. I'm working on one myself now and realized I could save myself some work and headaches if IPB would support transactions. I searched classDb, classDbMysql, and classDbMysqlClient but didn't find methods resembling 'start transaction', 'commit' or 'rollback'. I was going to use the mysqli api directly for this functionality but I can't use the 'connection_id' since it's protected. So does IPS have any plans to add support for transactions? Or at least provide a getter for the connection_id?

Wasnt sure where else to put this for IPB's download section so here it goes sorry if in wrong section....... Well for starters I think there should be a small TUT for those who wish to post their paid materials since its got different untold rules....like for instance if I edit my paid submission in any way it no longer shows up as paid and the dl button appears. I also did not know to actually ul my premium item until after I talked to staff. Also I think the listing page is misleading. I look at my premium item I posted and see WOW 20 downloads! When I check my shop I see ZERO invoices...meaning no one actually bought it. Why would it count as a download when someo…

If this has been asked before then ummm.. Oops. Anyway... It would be nice if fixes made were to be documented as part of a fix in the bug tracker. I'm not talking about complex fixes, but more of simple or of elevated severity/importance. If it's a small typo in the php code or if it's something else that only takes a couple of minutes to do, then it'd be nice to know so that members can apply the fix themselves. If it's got a more than average severity level, that fix would be appreciated as well, at least if it's something that is severe because of the amount of functionality it affects, etc. I know that security issues are always made available via announcem…

The forum option to Hide Last Post Info would be nice if it also applied to the Recent Topics hook preventing these topics from being listed. Or a specific option to prevent topics from being listed in the Recently Added Topics menu... Ted.
