For example USER-A uses our forum both at work and at home. It would be handy, if when logged in at work, if USER-A chose to set the skin at work it would always detect this. Even if when back home, USER-A has a conventional skin. Basically the ability to set different skins to different computers that you are logged in on. No idea if that is possible, but users of my site would find that very handy.

I love the "user quoted a post you made" notification feature. Helps me follow up on posts. I do have a few suggestions to make this feature more useful. I will outline these suggestions below: 1) I never use the "post you made" link. In fact I've accidently clicked it when I meant to click "quoted". I would like to see the "post you made" link removed and extend the "quoted" link to "quoted a post you made". 2) "user quoted a post you made" is extremely vague. From a glance you don't know what topic this happened in. Would be nice if it said "User quoted your post in `Topic Title`". Posting this here since it is indeed feedback to the company, and not a call for support per se. We moved form vB to IPP two months ago. One of the main issues we're facing is that users feel lost and can't find their content, their watched topics etc. Here is an example of feedback I get from my users: This is his nth post on it, so I figure he's giving up soon. His notes regarding the styles is not so important here, but the rest is, IMHO, all about how IPB is not geared towards making it easy for people to follow up on what they have posted in. I don't need it yet, but I wish IPB supported MySQL master/slave db configuration and better INNODB support. As you know, INNODB engine supports transactions. I think all places in the code that update the DB should be made bullet proof with transactions (by using SELECT...FOR UPDATE to lock rows or other transaction processing SQL especially for update or groups of updates). Also, with a MySQL master/slaves db setup, all writes should go to the master. The IPB PHP should be written to send writes to the master and not assume that writes make it to the slaves immediately. There should be box in ACP with list of installed apps and comment if installed version is up to date or outdated. Because of [url=" Release Schedule we get every week one updated version but not every administrator has time to install and upgrade system each week. So I need to know which apps are updated and which not because I don't have place in my memory which apps I upgraded last Tuesday or two weeks ago. This box should reminds us what we need upgrade and what is already upgraded. Thanks :)

Hi, I really like to use IPB. But it uses MySQL fulltext search or manual search which is very slow. Only way to solve in using Sphinx. Is it possible to improve it like phpBB does? phpBB have it's own search method and uses PCRE and mbstring in the back, works very well with non-Latin characters.

I'm working on adding a button in our sidebar that automatically runs a search for all of the topics that you are participating in. This really just amounts to a hard-coded saved search, which got me thinking that it would be slick to be able to click "Save this search in my sidebar" for any search the member runs, sort of like how it works on Twitter. Obviously the next step would be to allow these saved searches to hook up to notifications when the results change, like an eBay saved search. They could just be automatically run once per day, something like that. Obviously of most interest to "power users," but if we could pre-fill a few of the more useful saves searches …

The idea of a separate account used to post news and updates is certainly a good thing, but it looks a little unprofessional in its current form, because it mixes "impersonal" (IPS News) with "personal" (posts, join date, group, etc). If the thread view skin was edited to remove the personal information from below the poster's name and widen the post box itself, it would appear more professional and allow more room for the text of the announcements. Instead of looking like a discussion thread, it would appear more like the news posting that it is.

The language is still english, after I have uploaded the "language.xml.gz" file through the "manage languages". I select the new language, go to "edit language info" and set it to "default language". I see the green pipe, my new language is seted to default. Exit, login again, but still everything is english. Do I something wrong? Sorry for the newb question. :blush:

Hi, I would like to put forward a proposal to IPS, and how email addresses are stored within the database, which is like any other forum software these days. What concerns me is many people leave sql dumps in their webroots, while others get attacked not via the forum script but other means, and usually security holes found in scripts. This leads me on to my main concern, email addresses. I have seen on numerous forums over the years where people are selling databases, whereby they are farming the databases for email addresses, and depending on the number of accounts available depends on how much they can get. While most of IP board is managed through language bits, making it easy to show content in the right language, Helpfiles in IPB still are not language dependant. Off course I could translate them and add new helpfiles, but that would only make the list of helpfiles longer. Is it possible to make that a bit more easy? Off course I would still have to translate, but at least the helpfiles would not show more than the helpfiles in the same language as chosen board language. Perhaps by entering them in the language part as well? Hello, one thing that my organization would love to have in invision is the ability to post an topic in the forum and then have the option in the forum to make it an event like the calendar and when I post the event it would also post in the calendar. So for example, 1. I want to post an event in one of my sections in the forum 2. I make the post and in the options have the same options as for the adding an event to the calendar 3. Post the event and it shows in the forum and also in the calendar

After I had the upgrade to 3.1.3 installed I found that I could not log in, it kept reverting to log in screen, by accident I realised that I was actually logged in all the time!! I clicked on a section and it opened fine but as soon as I had left the forum, it all began over again. After a nights sleep and deep thought I found the following solution to a problem which only seemed to affect my staff and myself. All 'ordinary members' could follow on after the upgrade as if nothing had happened. 1. Forgive me if this is the wrong place (not sure where "bugs" are supposed to be reported). Obviously very minor, but while I was reviewing the changes in 3.1.3, I noticed that this is now defined twice (back-to-back) in ipb_styles.css: .popupClose { position: absolute; left: 12px; top: 12px; } That's all. When I click "add reply" or "quote" when viewing a topic I would like to see a quick reply like box pop directly under the post I am replying to. It currently opens a new page and I sometimes find myself going back to the topic trying to remember exactly what everyone was talking about. This would also make it easier of me and my community to quickly add replies to posts and topics. Just a suggestion :) Thanks

If there was a place in the ACP where I could hide different member profile fields for entire user groups that would be great. For privacy reasons I would really like a way to hide the age and date of birth from showing on each members profile page and I cant find a way to do this right now.

Hi everyone, Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere on the forum, but I've not been able to find it. I have a problem with my forum on Google Chrome. Namely, the Facebook Connect login section does not show at all. Does anyone know what I need to do to resolve this? Is it a google chrome settings problem? Or a problem with the board? The FB Connect login pane displays correctly (and works great) in IE and Firefox and Safari. Im stumped. Does anyone have any advice? (Aside from use Firefox lol) Have a great week everyone. Jason D.
