RocketStang reacted to Matt in Why aren't posts numbered within a thread?
It's just meaningless clutter.
The question comes up now and again, but it really doesn't get a lot of traction from fellow Invision Community owners. You can share the post permalink via the three dot menu, or by the post time link.
We're keen to keep visual noise to a minimum and let the post content be the focus.

It seems like it would be a no brainer to number posts within a thread for easier reference but I don't see an numbers in IPS? As a matter of fact, how would you even permalink a post if you needed to? The only way I see possible is by using the Share>Email link as a permalink but that takes a few steps to access...

Click the time of post. Similar to twitter etc. in that regard.

RocketStang got a reaction from Luuuk in Why no widget block for custom HTML or Text
Why isn't there a custom widget block for adding random things to your sidebar like HTML and text? I was able to add a plugin to do it but I really think this should be a core feature. I don't have Pages so I am not able to use page builder widgets either.

+1 for moving this feature into the core. In our case, we don't need pages app at all. Just one widget is not a good reason to buy something you don't need.

I know, but I don't have IP.Pages and really don't have a need for it right now, but I could really use the random widget block!

I got it...just wish there was a core feature for that exact same thing. I try to keep my forum running with as little3rd party plugins as possible to make it easier to upgrade but it is getting harder and harder because there are so many cool plugins and apps that I want to run!

RocketStang got a reaction from Donut. in My Announcements box is missing something!
I just discovered Announcements in the ModCP but my sidebox Announcement is missing some formatting and/or icon! It just looks really plain! I don't see any way to add a FA icon or format the title? Any one have any ideas or suggestions to make it look better and grab attention?

RocketStang got a reaction from Luuuk in Invision Stories
I don't think we need anything like 'Stories" in IPB, I still can't figure out what the Status Updates age good for! My members seem to get confused and try to post regular posts in the status updates, they treat Blogs as regular posts instead of creating blog type posts...I'm sure stories would just be misused as well! As a matter of fact, I wish there was a way to convert status updates and blog posts into regular threads, but that is a different topic!
I strongly believe that forums need to COMPETE with social media but NOT BECOME social media!

RocketStang got a reaction from Jimi Wikman in A couple ideas for 4.5 Marketplace
I've been testing out the 4.5 Marketplace on my test board and a couple small ideas for improvement came to mind...
1. Add a filter to show all FREE items.
2. Mark or identify items that the user has already INSTALLED in the Marketplace!
Thanks for looking!

RocketStang reacted to Jim M in How to improve my SEO/Google Rankings
Couple things to mention (note: I am not an expert at SEO. If you need exact answers or help reaching out to an SEO agency/specialist may be your best bet) :
Changing your software will more than likely itself cause a URL change as most software have some varying URL configurations/naming conventions. In addition, you changed the location of the software on your domain so this will also cause a URL change. During this period, your organic traffic may dip but should recover as the search engine re-indexes these new URLs. 301 means a permanent redirect and instructs the search engine the old URL should not be indexed anymore. A 301 passes all the link value a discarded URL has accumulated over the years over to the new URL, so it causes the new URL to gain or retain value. Thus, it is OK and recommended to leave these in place. More on redirects: https://yoast.com/which-redirect/ Meta keywords are no longer part of Google's and other search engine's algorithm. Google in May did a huge algorithm change: https://medium.com/better-marketing/google-may-2020-algorithm-update-4-key-changes-and-how-to-adjust-9fdd6294b83c -

You don’t have to do anything. Google will add that after some time if the site gets relevant enough.

RocketStang got a reaction from Davyc in after upgrading to 4.5 beta 8 issue in logo
Yes, that is what is weird though...my light and dark theme are both default however, I created the dark theme around beta 8 so it is probably different than the beta 1 light theme.
Thanks for the help @Davyc

RocketStang reacted to Davyc in after upgrading to 4.5 beta 8 issue in logo
OK add this to your custom.css file:
#elSiteTitle, #elLogo { margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; height: 150px !important; } Change the height to whatever your logo height is, or a percentage thereof in pixels (don't use percentage sign %).
The margins can also be adjusted to suit - just gives the logo a little breathing room.

You can probably move the variable int the templates to where ever you want it to display in your footer...maybe someone here knows how or I can look into it later?

Note: You can launch the visual editor at any time, even long after you've created the theme. However, if you convert an Easy Mode theme to a normal theme, you can't go back and use the visual editor.
If you don't see the button for easy editor, your theme either doesn't have it or was already converted to normal...here is some more info on Easy Mode:
