I did but it's already been over an hour and I have an advertising campaign going on now, I'm losing money as we speak.

However: it is partly my fault for not submitting the ticket sooner; I just expected Invision to reply sooner.

The only problem I've had with the service so far is the support. I have a ticket that needs to be dealt with immediately but you guys don't open until 9AM.

Another area that vB has the advantage:
    Per Forum, Usergroup Overrides
Basically, as with IPB's usergroups, you can configure a number of options/permissions for that usergroup, and they apply globally. On vBulletin however, you can override all of these permissions/options on a per-forum level for every usergroup, and they will apply to users in those groups, only for those forums.

    Thx :D

I want add to my list:

    10) Ability to flag/unflag topic as a personal reminder
    11) Social groups
    12) In the ACP now you can easly move X members to a new group using the very nice "advanced search filters" , I think this can be very usefull also for add a new group to the filtered result.

I suggest implementing vertical drop-down menu navigations links instead of 1 main row horizontal navigation bar.
It would be nice having this feature, because we can manage better the horizontal space and also grouping the navigation links.

i'm gonna say it str8 out... community seo is soo friggin buggy.. and their support sucks.. really really really really really really badly.. sometimes i wished i was still with vb because vbseo was awesome, and so was their support and community.. now i'm just waiting for ips to finish furl'ing the rest of their apps, before i go live.

Both of them where in phpbb3 also. We used it a lot since we also have private forums depending on group and 99% of the gaming forums have private section. Now its nightmare for admin to move each user from ACP. I would personally like to see those features in core IPB itself without any hooks or mod's.

Excellent post - can't argue about any of that.

All you VB points are those that I too miss in IPB (total pain having to go into a CP and remember the users display name that you wish to edit!)

Worth adding on search that with IPB you can use sphinx, which even with V4 VB refuse to add - makes a big difference to larger forums, but would rather it be topics by default.

Also in IPB's favour is display names - something that VB does not have.

After using this software for a bit, and having been pleased with its performance thus far I would like to share my thoughts with people looking for some answers. Hopefully some of my commentary will help potential buyers since it comes from a fellow vbulletin admin.

Just to elaborate a bit before beginning, I've been a vbulletin user for a little over 3 years now on a relatively small forum with a consistent group of posters. It isn't a 'big board' by any means, but over time I've probably used most the features that vbulletin offers. This puts me at an advantage with that software bundle over IP.Board, so if I give kudos to a feature that is 'missing', but isn't actually missing and a user error of ignorance on my part, please chime in and correct me fully.

I know you can't really be objective on some things, and for those instances I've tried to separate them from the facts by italicizing them. Also, this is not at all a comprehensive analysis of the two softwares. Just a collection of points that stood out to me. Hopefully this kind of thing is allowed if done in a non-hostile/polite to other product way, if not then nuke away or move to the appropriate area, if there is one.

    Things in Invision's Favor:

This is based on the 3.0 series of board, after my use of the IP.Suite product that comes with IP.Board/Blog/Gallery

I have to say, this feature could come in very handy from time to time.

I was sceptical at first, but then i began to see how easy it is to follow the timeline if someone edited a post or deleted etc.

This is a feature of VB, and it doesn't seem to have any problems with it. I know I could unapprove posts or use the trash can, but that isn't what I want or was referring to or else I wouldn't of mentioned this..

When a member deletes/edits a thread/post I want a copy of the original post content stored, in other words when a member or staff deletes a post it's a soft delete. The edit history/revisions and soft delete of posts and threads allowed deleted or edited post content to be reviewed. Then the administrator or other staff can decide to restore the original post content or hard delete it permanently.

Yes, the post "edit history" was a good feature of VB. You could compare before and after versions of the post.

That said... I'd rather do without it if it meant I had to go back to VB! ;)

One of the things I like about VB, is that if a member or staff deletes or edits a thread/post, a copy or history of the thread/post is archived. This "soft" delete allows the history of the thread or post to be reviewed by staff for anything incriminating. It can then be decided to restore the original thread/post or hard delete the thread/post. Each time a member deletes or edits a thread/post, it keeps a history of each before the edit to review or restore the original content. Deleted posts are never truly deleted, only soft deleted so they can be restored later if needed. Staff can choose whether to hard delete a thread/post.

I hope I have explained this clear enough, the moderation/administration aspect is where IPB is lacking compared to Vbulletin, I would just like to have more control over the content and moderation of the forum.

Members have a habit of editing their posts and deleting content, if they go on a fit of rage, say something rude, or post something against the rules. I would like to review these edited and deleted threads/posts with the option of restoring the original content or hard deleting the thread/post.

Same here, I have a dedicated server at the moment and my plans are to use two servers for my site not long down the road. I'd much rather use my own server for this than have to rely on a third-party server.

I would love to see more attention put into the reputation system. Some suggestions:

    1. Make people spread reputation around before being able to give the same person reputation again and allow the admin to set the number needed before they can give the same person rep again in the ACP.

    2. The ability to disable a specific members ability to give reputation.

    3. The ability for the admin to be able to change someones specific post reputation. I have had members accidentally give a member a negative point and they wanted to change it, but as an Admin, I am unable to do so.

    4. The ability to leave comments about the reputation that only the person receiving it can see.

    5. The ability to see where you got your reputation point from, and who gave it to you. Even better would be to have a setting so you can allow people to only see who gave them positive of negative reputation.

I know it integrates easily into my forum, thats not my concern. My concern is that all talking/messages going through their server/service. Not that I have anything to hide, but some people do actually care about their privacy.

I just want to know when this software is ready (final), if we can host it ourselves? I have no interest in letting IPS host anything for me since I have my own powerful serverfarm hosted on a dual gigabit connection. :)

If not, then I guess I'll just stick with my IRC server.

So we cannot host this ourselves no matter what? Can't say I'm keen on that idea. Instead we'd have to rely on IPS servers/connectivity and bandwidth to be stable enough between IPS and for example Iceland, let alone for privacy issues.

For those with own high-end servers I hope you see the chance of explaining what this "special tuning" thing is so we can do this ourselves.

    Hello,

As a returning Invision customer (gone three years), I was curious about ticket responses. I guess I was spoiled with vB usually getting a response after about an hour or so. I have a ticket open which has been dragging on for days. I send in a reply and by the time I get a response from support, usually 24 hrs have passed - basically I hear nothing until the next day. It`s making solving even a simple issue seem like it has been going on forever.

    Example:

One day: Sent in a ticket regarding a problem after a conversion
Following day: Have you tried running the converter again - Same day I reply: I cannot do this because......
Following day: Have you tried changing permissions - Same day I reply: No because I have suPHP installed and 777 not needed.
Following day: Did you remove the converter script because it is showing as no there - Same day I reply: Yes because it was posing a security risk leaving it active, did you want me to reinstall it again?
Following day: I await the next ticket!!!!!

I`m guessing the way this is going, it could be a week or more before we even get close to making a start on this problem once the tickets have been sent back and forth.
