Gauravk got a reaction from Simon Watton in 4.5: Commerce Trials
@The Old Man please share here or in PM your community URL and Im happy to help you suggest many ideas from my experience.
Long story short, your community should have
Valuable and/or entertaining/engaging content Above content should be locked for paid user after a free preview. Above content shouldn't be freely available with other sites and communities. -

I wish there will be not only credit card. Something like this:
Acquire a free trial version Collect the data for future invoice Invoice is automatically generated when free trial is over The customer is free to pay or abandon Is it possible with the feature?

OMG, this is worth in gold. Can't wait for it to launch please. Thank you soooooo much guys.
Hope it includes following suggestions too:
Coupon code for subscriptions
Discounts for subscriptions
Changing annual/monthly with flick of button than displaying same subscription twice. Its neat, space saving and above all less confusing or paralyzing for buyers.
Make checkout super short just to grab credit card first and then display all the fields on next page to expedite checkout.

I just can't understand it. 🙄 Opting to limit the amount of content in the email should surely be an option out of the box, especially when we're already battling the blight of social media. The "You might also be interested in" section of the email is truncated with the intention of driving engagement activity back to the site.

To make this complete we need to be able to have an email list signup and the ability to import email addresses, without a full forum account.
For example, if we go to a conference and have a business card raffle, all email addresses on those cards get entered into our database. They aren't forum accounts, but they are still valuable leads we would like to send mail to. If you are trying to sell someone something it is easier to get them to enter their email address and press submit than it is to create a forum account. It's all about the customer acquisition funnel.
We would save $2000 a year if you can make this replace MailChimp.

Great news!
It would be nice to have built-in option to trim post content in notification emails. Firstly, it would be better for community, because if someone have to click link to read the content there is much bigger chance that he will reply in this topic (because he is reading post on forum not in mail). What's more, currently the mail with notification about really long post look awful (especially when there is some program listing in post content ex. on forum for programmers).

Gauravk reacted to Kjell Iver Johansen in 5 ways to monetize your community
For me the number one reason for members to subscribe is that they get access to discount codes for one of the largest outdoorshops in my country. I have had a discountcodes since 2013 that give them 20% discount on everything in that large shop.
And then I have an agreement with the outdoorshop that I get a percentage from what all the members are buying via tracking codes.
In that way I win in both ends. Members need to see that they gain something to pay.

Charging for additional access is a pre-facebook approach, except in very specific content, it is very difficult to develop that kind of business model. I'm open to any suggestions helping me in that point.

I sell ads to vendors and have a custom solution for displaying them.
I also use Google ads. We could really use some help there from IPS in that we are not supposed to display ads on certain pages, i.e. registration and others. IPS builds in the option to display Google Ads, but does not prevent those from displaying where they should not.
