  1. @Subseven, you should check the first page of the topic, where the things you have brought up were dealt with when the 4.x update of the app was first released.

The unfortunate reality is that the core software was rewritten and so many (maybe even all) third-party software also had to be rewritten, in effect giving third-party developers a brand new piece of software to create. At least, that's how I understand it.

Still hoping that the bugs may be looked into.

Duplicated display pictures (caused by mobile visits?)
Limited number of display pictures shown (set 30, 20 show or 17) very odd.

Hopefully this will receive some attention like the awards mod has, otherwise this will have died a death IMO. :(

I have had both of these issues. I just used the Support tool to clear the cache and fix a database issue, and now the first issue is not appearing for me, although that might be temporary.

  3. Members of my community often use other text editors to write up long posts. One of my aims for this year is improving the editor, including giving feedback to IPS about how woefully inconsistent the auto-save feature is. It's genuinely not good enough to replace an active draft mechanism.

  4. 1. I can't believe I missed this.

    2. I can't believe IPS don't think this is useful enough to have in the core and I usually don't like to say that.

Question! Do you think this would work with Awards?

EDIT: So I tried it, was looking good but after submitting for a copy got an error message:

    Quote

EX0 Something went wrong. Please try again.

    With this log:

The plugin still works fine but there is no storage setting for uploaded thumbnails. The thumbnails will be uploaded to the default storage.

(There is no way to use extension for plugin, so it requires an upload for storage setting)

Ah, okay! Good to know. :)

Is this the same for your Forum Cover plugin?

  6. Hi, just so you know you have this in the file description:

( This file requires an upload so you will not be able to install this on an IPS Cloud hosted community. )

And yet, I am using the plugin on an IPS Cloud hosted community without a single problem. Am I missing some features that are available on a self-hosted community or is this an error in the description?

  7. Great work, as usual!

    I am missing two things:

    • The new "Award" button on the award view. I've checked on the default theme and it's not displaying there either.
    • The Categories are still called "Manage" in the ACP. I wasn't sure if this change was made in this update or if it is for later?

It just seems to be more frequent on this platform or maybe that's just what I am perceiving.

It doesn't bother me if a developer stops supporting their app, I just get put offside when they do this with zero communication to their paying customer base.

I don't know if it's more frequent but I do remember a lack of quality and support on other platforms before returning to IPS. Maybe other platforms are better for people who are more capable at the various technical parts of running a site? I don't know, IPS just works best for me overall.

Agree that it's particularly crappy when there is no communication at all; they could have provided at the very least a couple of lines to update the status, even if it is to say that the app is currently unsupported.
I would assume it's worse with Raw's products because he was such a big part of the ecosystem, therefore people are coming from a point-of-view of greater expectation. Unfortunately it can be difficult to accept 100% -> 0%, which is what it looks like here.

But here's the gotcha, Raw was like that in the beginning and actively supporting it and then gone. I have the same issue with a different app by a different author who was also active and now gone. Something is broken if good developers come, build and then not motivated to stay.

Such is the life of a software consumer. I mean, other than getting total custom work that has some way of being future proof -- which I assume would cost a lot of money -- I don't see any other way around the current reality that is the uncertainty of software development. You can't even rely on IPS to continue supporting their products.

I think one of the reasons developers aren't motivated is the customers -- yes there are plenty of people willing to spend money but do all of those people also contribute in a substantial way to these forums? Not really. What do developers face on here? A lot of fly-by customers who often make ignorant remarks in the midst of petulant complaints, mixed in with a number of enthusiastic but often incomprehensible and impatient customers who fail to understand certain basic facts about software development and how to give feedback... all along side IPS who brought a brand new codebase without a set of top class development tools to go with it, as well as failing to supply clear and user friendly communication to non-developers about some of the realities of developing for IPS that the average person might not be aware of.

Also, on top of all that, when the third-party devs do go ahead and put even more work into supporting their customers with their own sites where they can improve things in a way that is impossible on this site... what happens? They get customers blaming them rather than IPS for the currently broken state of the relationships between IPS, devs, and customers.

There are clearly still good people in the IPS community from all parts but between continued development here and stable income from actual jobs (I recall RAW recently said he has two jobs at the moment), I think I'd honestly go elsewhere.

ah yes that is a point, I also have other club content that I would need to review to ensure my members in additional user groups receive what they need, but would be so much easier if it inherited the permission hierarchy model.

I'm missing something here -- AFAIK you can't hide topics from account groups in a forum so why do you need permissions? Are you looking for a filter in the app which basically lets you choose "fill email with content available to X Group"?

I took the risk and went and bought it an 2 does give the full answer.

    Hi,

I do have a question about the field description on the form, I would like to put it under the field name on the form and not underneath the field itself.
    So for example

    Field Name
    Field Description
    Text, checkbox etc... here.

At the moment it is doing

    Field Name
    Checkbox etc...
    Field Description

    +1

    @Mike John

Got some questions about this before I think about buying.

    1. Does it work on the Cloud service?

    2. For Checkbox sets, does it post the full answer as on the form and not just a number?

    3. For Yes/No answers does it post Yes or No, like on the form?

PS. have also sent you this in a PM.

    Thanks

    1. Yep. I use it on my Cloud site without any issues. The only potential problems I've noticed is compatibility with other third-party items (for example: Groups Collaboration) but that can happen with any third-party item and isn't necessarily a long term problem.

    2. I am unsure since I don't yet use a checkbox set. I would guess it posts the full answer.

    3. It does post Yes or No, yep.

I didn't mean to "take my frustration out" on Adriano nor "unload on him" for this issue alone.  But, you need to also understand that that (a) I had paid him to link his Classifieds app to the Trader Feedback System months ago, and it did not happen in this release as I had been told earlier, and (b) then he tells me that if I had been more active in HIS forums I would've known about it.  It was the combination of events...

Why should I need to participate in his forums to find out that he was not going to do what he'd already been paid for and agreed to do?

I understand. I also wouldn't advise mixing the issue of your paid job with how it is best for him to deliver support.

Could he have done better? Maybe, I don't know the situation that well but you seem to be happy to have got your refund.

But the issue of how support is delivered, no matter whether you paid for custom work or not, does not come down on individual developers but rather IPS and their lack of a decent solution for this well-known issue. I think it's important to maintain clarity with this issue.

And why should you participate, even for an agreement to a custom job? Well I don't know about you but when it comes to wanting something to be done I know I have to keep on top of everything better than anybody else; it's not easy, of course, and frustrating but then again so many worthwhile things come with this price.

I understand that you have made your own practices clear -- but that requires that I (and other users) first find the plug-in in the Marketplace again, in order to access your site, or store the link as a Favorite or something.  As I recall, when I suggested to the developers in the Marketplace several months ago that they somehow integrate their support links in a product ReadMe (or something similar) visible through the ACP that you voiced a dissenting view.

Ideally, I'd like to see an optional dropdown selection for Support for each plug-in or app in the ACP. When I am trying to find/resolve issues with my site's software -- I am always in the ACP.  Being able to readily link from somewhere in the ACP to where you want me to go for support  -- where ever that may be -- would be a huge improvement for users of Marketplace add-ons...

As it is, I must return to this site, search for the specific add-on, and then go from there to where that specifc developer wants me to go....

If you continue to make this case clearly to IPS, using Company/Product Feedback, I am sure Adriano would support your case. In fact, he already does this, giving support to lots of good ideas that can improve the third-party experience.

Why it is that you take your frustrations out on any developer for having their own support site is, frankly, beyond me. Maybe you had a moment of weakness but it certainly isn't clear her. You should do better than unload on the people who are in the same boat as us, the customers.

So the only way to review submissions is to create custom log entries using the tags?

Yes, as far as I know. From what I have experienced in testing and now fully using the app is that the logs are both a log record and a way to quickly message somebody with a pre-populated reference for the form they have submitted.
