bfarber reacted to NiftyWolfie in IP.Chat help!
I for one am very glad you have release a beta version .... by following the instructions posted by yourselfs I've not had any problems installing it and the errors that followed are either already in the tracker or have been bought up in this topic and looked at by the staff.
I assume that was the whole point in the beta release ? for bugs to be found and worked out that hadn't/wouldn't normally be found on in-house testing ?

That's not ban, that's kick. And I've just fixed the bug.
I posted the query to fix the problem in the tracker already. -

This chat bites. After uploading the files to the directories required, there is no option to install this in the ACP. There are no settings in ACP. And nowhere to enter in the chat key. This was just a waste of time.

bfarber reacted to AndyF in Hiding the language choice
I've thought about this a few times before.
I wonder if there should be an option added to hide the language chooser (especially if you only have one language anyway) , I know you can simply skin it out ;) , in fact I've added a quick article on doing this for 3.0. (as I have done for other versions at the time), but the same thing could be said for the skin chooser too, and there is an option to disallow anyone (easily, at least) choosing skins by hiding it.
I'm merely thinking along the lines of tidiness as with only one language present, it does not appear serve a real purpose as far as I can tell. :)

When we have more information on when it will be available, we will announce that information.
See post [url=", where this was already stated. :)

This is already a per-group feature of IPB. You can setup signature restrictions for each group from the Manage Groups area of the ACP. -

Well, templates and CSS are fully customizable. It's of course understandable if a software product doesn't meet your needs, but I'd hazard a guess it's unlikely we'll write up a separate concurrent package that does one of the same things IP.Content does. A more realistic approach would be to figure out what IP.Content lacks, and then enhance it further to accommodate.

F.John, it's a chatroom not a private message system - I really don't think realtime typing indicators are appropriate in a multi-user chatroom. It's also not a LITTLE resource intensive, it's a LOT resource intensive.

bfarber got a reaction from nes718 in <Suggestion> Craigslist style community moderation
I wouldn't be against adding a setting to report manager that if something is flagged x times it goes into mod queue. I wouldn't want it at 1 (some people could report something for no reason, or just because they dislike the member, or don't know what they are doing), but maybe 2 or 3 (admin-configurable is best option).

You can do virtually anything with IPB, with the right amount of knowledge/assistance.
For instance, if your banner rotation script is just a php script, you can easily do includes in our template system.
{parse include="/home/site/public_html/myphpscript.php"}
That will include myphpscript.php and put it's output where you insert that tag into the skin template.
Dropdown menus - you can do that too with a little custom skin work. Look at our member dropdown at the top of the page - can easily replicate that to other areas.

bfarber got a reaction from Ryan H. in please, solve the board's index canonical URL
Quite frankly I think too many people underestimate Google. It's not like this is year 1 of their attempt at indexing web sites. They know pretty well how to handle the indexing by now. ;)
Not against the canonical tag and it's not that hard to do, just saying I don't think it's likely to make a huge amount of difference in the end.

bfarber got a reaction from Steve G. in Whitespace needs fixing in 4 files
All 4 files are third party files and as such we generally avoid modifying them in any form. The "whitespace" detected is actually allowed in the PHP engine, so they're nothing to worry about.
Will consider trimming them just for the checker, but they don't cause any harm, even with the extra newline after the closing PHP tags.
(Note that in our own code, we omit the closing PHP tag to prevent this from being a problem).

bfarber got a reaction from TrixieTang in [Suggestion] View Other Topics
Hmm. I can see your point, but I don't necessarily agree.
Consider this - I'm using a forum with this option as a "ticket system", where naturally I don't want anyone (but admins/mods) to see all topics. I might want to pin a topic ("ticket") to set it as priority, or to remind myself to address it the next time I visit. I wouldn't be able to do that if we implemented what you are suggesting.
I think announcements are generally sufficient for this purpose.

I noticed that the times for the previous day and current day look different from each other when viewing profile.
I thought maybe they should be consistent with each other.
But, this might be something that is easily fixed in the System Settings.

bfarber got a reaction from NiftyWolfie in Usability issue with IPB forums
IPB allows you to disable remotely linked avatars, if it's an issue on your site. If you find an avatar image that is excessive, inappropriate, etc., report the user profile and we'll address it.

bfarber reacted to Nervosa in [Suggestion] Ignored User from Post.
The only way I know how to Ignore a user is to go to my settings and add them there.
In every post there is a "add as friend" icon, why not an "ignore user" one.
If having it there seems kind of bad could put it in the view profile drop down box.
