G17 Media reacted to Randy Calvert in Outdated PHP?
Are you hosted in the IPS cloud or are you hosted elsewhere? If you are hosted elsewhere, this is something your host will have to help with. It's not a software issue.

G17 Media reacted to Hezeber in Marketplace implementation in ACP feels clunky
I hope this is an incomplete in-progress version, because it's lacking basic features that make it extremely inconvenient to use. The main issue is it's difficult to find and install plugins I've already purchased. Currently, I have to open Marketplace in the ACP, open a second browser window, go to the website Marketplace, look at my list of purchases, copy the name of the one I want to find, paste it into the ACP marketplace, then I can install.
I can't even search for plugins from memory most of the time. The Marketplace in the ACP seems to only be capable of searching for exact terms. For example, if my plugin has "Forums" in the title, it won't come up if I search for "Forum" instead. However, this wouldn't matter to me if I could easily access my purchased plugins in the first place.
I don't mind going to the website for the full-featured experience, but I shouldn't have to have to constantly go back and forth between two browser windows. If I'm going to be required to use the ACP to install the plugins I've purchased, it should make it much easier to find them.

G17 Media reacted to Ryan Ashbrook in Suggestion: Allow SQL engine to be specified in conf_global.
The problem is the two engines are vastly different, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to support both.
Oracle themself recommends InnoDB.

G17 Media reacted to Marc Stridgen in Suggestion: Allow SQL engine to be specified in conf_global.
Sorry, I should say recommendation. However these are still hosting related items, not software

G17 Media reacted to Charles in Suggestion: Allow SQL engine to be specified in conf_global.
We are not adding support for MyISAM when MySQL itself defaults to InnoDB. You should either switch to our cloud services or get a competent host. It is so written.

G17 Media reacted to Matt in Suggestion: Allow SQL engine to be specified in conf_global.
We have made a conscious decision to be less involved in helping people use budget hosting by adding features to compensate. For example, adding the default option, then adding methods to trim long indexes under the 767 limit, and testing, etc would probably cost around $10,000 in development costs - and we'd only do that to enable people to continue using hosts that don't give you the correct tools.
We have added a lot of code and functionality in the past to allow a variety of hosting environments but we really want to be more firm in what we will support moving forwards.
This may mean people need to speak with their hosts, or even switch hosts that support our needs (like our own cloud service).

G17 Media reacted to Matt in Adding custom Code Editor like Header/Footer HTML into a theme...
As Nathan said, make sure you're using a CodeMirror editor type, eg.
$form->add( new \IPS\Helpers\Form\Codemirror( 'theme_simple_header_settings', $this->custom_header, FALSE, [ 'mode' => 'htmlmixed', 'height' => 400 ] ) );

G17 Media reacted to Marc Stridgen in Suggestion: Allow SQL engine to be specified in conf_global.
Its quite unlikely we would begin adding something to work around hosting companies not having the proper capabilities, to be honest. Using a self hosted environment, you should be looking for your host to meet the requirements your software requires, rather than looking for a workaround.

G17 Media reacted to Marc Stridgen in MySQL: How change type MyISAM to InnoDB when are mixed ?
Sorry to hear you are being told this. I'm not sure where it is they get that impression, as we create tables and they will be created on the server with whatever the default is for that servers MySQL setup.
Just taking a quick search there, this looks like it may help

This is something you would contact your hosting company on if you are unsure how to switch over table types

@Stuart Silvester We understand that you are currently working on two versions 4.x and 5.x simultaneously, but please test the new release properly - before releasing it. Too many bugs and omissions for one release. 🙏 Have a nice weekend.

G17 Media reacted to Dll in A few questions after upgrading to cloud hosting
It's because of the caching on the cloud - only the first guest every 10-15 minutes is counted, the rest hit the cache.

G17 Media reacted to opentype in chat gpt moderation/ AI moderation
No, you should stop making false assumption and claim that my goal was to “gain scores“ or “poke fun at you”. All of that is completely wrong. You can’t make up what people’s motivations are and then judge them based on these purely speculative assumptions. It’s dishonest and insulting.
And you can’t expect that people in an open discussion forum – developer forum or not – are only supposed to answer in ways that you like or deem worthy. That’s ridiculous. The only result will be that your questions remain unanswered, because no one will want to help you if this kind of response is what we get. And with that, I’m out for good. Good luck.

You specifically asked for “thoughts”, I replied with a though relevant to the subject.
Relax. It’s a discussion forum. That’s how it works.

Fun times ahead. AI-powered bots trying to post spam and getting into an endless back and forth with AI-powered moderation tools.

No need for AI, they just need to incorporate support for Akismet. That's already wildly effective even for first time posts. It's why I keep pushing on this every time the subject of what to do comes up.

G17 Media reacted to Lukas Jankauskas in Downloads: Call to a member function filesize() on null when uploading file by URL
Just curious if there's been any progress with it, as it still 'works' the same - when multiple files are not allowed, creating a revision does not re-enable the URL box as you've mentioned.

G17 Media reacted to HeavyWolfPL in Stop adding Mod/Admin IP to user's history
Whenever you modify a user's account in ACP, it is displayed in his/her "Recent Activity" and IP activity. As I often deal with leakers / spammers / alt accounts, checking user IPs is something I do very often. It is annoying, when I see my and other staff's addresses in user activity, whenever I want to check something. What's even more annoying, these IP addresses also appear in the Ban IP Addresses section.
My suggestion is to disable staff addresses from appearing in the user's activity and Ban IP addresses section. I appreciate it shows the actions staff has done on specific user's account, but having them listed the same way as user's "real" IP addresses isn't helpful.

G17 Media reacted to Arthmoor in Spam attack today
It's a long standing issue with IPS and their "anti-spam" that doesn't actually prevent spam. Even with hCaptcha.
It would be better to press them on enacting my suggestion from January when I got hit by the same spammers:
The other often mentioned "solution" is to spend an additional $20 to install ClearTalk, but IMO one should not require additional paid apps to run an already expensive package.

G17 Media reacted to David N. in "This community is temporarily unavailable"?
This just happened again right now. I'm not sure who I should email. The problem is also that by the time someone looks at it, the problem has disappeared, but this problem shouldn't happen that often, even if short-lived each time it occurs..

G17 Media reacted to Jim M in Help! Users unable to login
Have you tried the steps there by switching to an unmodified theme and disabling all third party applications/plugins?
Recovery mode can be used to do this if you do not have access to the ACP:

G17 Media reacted to teraßyte in Getting This In logs
As the error says, the script wasn't able to write the file to your filesystem. Check the permissions for the /datastore folder (either 777 or 755; depending on your server configuration). If permissions are okay check that you still have space available on your server.
