Not a big thing to me. You should know what's best for your community.
    What's New in Version 3.1.0:
Added a widget setting to admin decide who can manage validating queue: if only admins or users from specific user groups. ADMINS is the default value, so nothing will change for those who already use the plugin.

I would find it easier to work with on the front end, but I agree with most of your other extra protection proposals.  Having it only available for people who have ACP access would be a good security check.

Would it be possible to have some way to zoom into a particular pin? Such as double-clicking it, or adding a link to the Info box that would allow you to do that? Right now it's pretty cumbersome to try and zoom into a particular pin. Even being able to double-click the pin to center the map on it would help (since you could then zoom in more easily).

Why is this not possible already? We can merge topics, close them, sticky them, delete them - but there is no way to choose topics from a result set when searching and move them to another category. There really should be a way to do this from a result set that contains topics.

It would really speed up the process of moving topics when new forums are created.

Yes please!!! I've had need for this on numerous occasions and it's a big pain making another permissions mask for a single user to exclude him or her form that forum.

That mod is fine for a single conversation, but if you have hundreds of conversations in your inbox it's not terribly useful. There needs to be a way to export all your conversations so you can download them together.

    Two suggestions:

    1) Show the member's location in the balloon.

    2) Add a list to the right of the map of members who have added their location. When you click on a member's name, zoom in and open the balloon.

I like this idea. Avatars are the visual representation of the user. I find it inconsistent to sometimes see an avatar and sometimes see a picture.

You're right and I apologize. I was just aggravated at the time and shouldn't have said that.

I believe what was causing my particular problem was XCache. When I was knee deep in skinning work for IP.Board 3.0, I had to disable XCache as changes I was making to the skin would not be reflected immediately. And there doesn't seem to be any way to disable XCache on a per-directory basis or even on a domain basis (it's affects all the domains you have on a server). Since I haven't done any skinning work in a while, I forgot about this issue.

I know you and everyone at Invision are working quite hard and I very much appreciate it. I'm looking forward to watching IP.Chat stabilize and evolve over time.

There is definitely something funky going on--I just went to make sure I had "ipchat.css" in my "AtariAge" skin, and when I click on the template bit I get an "ACP Session Has Expired" message. Clicking OK just dismisses the dialog box and nothing happens. If I click on the template bit again I get the same error.

Something definitely got screwed up during the upgrade. I wish Invision wouldn't be so quick to assume their users aren't properly following directions.

First, ten users is not very many, especially for scheduled chats that take place at a certain date and time. I routinely have hundreds of users on my forum, and there are many busy forums that will certainly want more than 10 users to be able to use the chat at any given time. Second, because Invision is hosting the chat server backend, this will greatly cut down on your server load, allowing you to host much larger chats than you might ordinarily be able to on a shared server environment. Once the chat page has loaded, the Invision servers will be managing the chat traffic, not your server. And third, you might be surprised at the number of large forums out there running on dedicated servers.

I for one am very glad you have release a beta version .... by following the instructions posted by yourselfs I've not had any problems installing it and the errors that followed are either already in the tracker or have been bought up in this topic and looked at by the staff.

I assume that was the whole point in the beta release ? for bugs to be found and worked out that hadn't/wouldn't normally be found on in-house testing ?

Actually, you're incorrect. IP.Shoutbox is an official IPS release and it's released by IPS Resources. Check out the information at IPS Resources. I'm just not bothering with either of these releases because of the problems I'm having with their installs. It's really bothersome that I've had these problems with installing these addons.

Same here, I have a dedicated server at the moment and my plans are to use two servers for my site not long down the road. I'd much rather use my own server for this than have to rely on a third-party server.

I see that there are people who are interested in having the chat hosted on their own server. I'd like to place my name in that hat too.

My site is on a dedicated server and could probably handle the load. If not, I'd upgrade to something that can.

I am aware of MySQL full text searching restrictions.

I would just suggest 3 things that will make the search feature in this board more usable:

    1. Turn off flood control or reduce it significantly for registered customers. They are your potential friends and not enimies :)
    2. Makin boolean searching "this +that" by default, as there is no practical approach in searching "apples OR pines". And it is more intuitive as this is default in the major search engines throught the world.
    3. Display only topics, not posts by default.

By the way, there is no such option in 'advanced' search form:
"Search titles only" - does not search in the posts body
"Search posts only" - is opposite to what I have suggested.

Not sure I buy that Matt. I think it would be more advantageous if people here could find what they were looking for. If that means IPS needs to install Sphinx then that's what they should do. For instance I want some help / ideas with the Lo-Fi skin. A search on "Lo-Fi" turns up zero results.

I'm looking into installing Sphinx on my forum. I've just come up with a permission error when installing it that I need to resolve with my host.

    Hello,

I am trying to solve some issues myself, without troubling support and community. So I try to use search feature in this forum. It is not really usable and often does not make sense:

    1. When I am looking for search phrase like "import from coppermine", I get any topic where import OR from OR coppermine appears. I appreciate, especially, search results mathing the single word "from". :)
    2. When nothing is found and I try another search phrase I am always have to wait 20 seconds.

Why should I wait, if nothing has been found? Why am I assumed to be a flooder as registered customer on this board?
    3. In the search results I would like to have a topic only once and not all the posts from one topic. It is often not enough to read the found post, but the whole topic to understand it. So, I would not like to have all the posts from the already readen topic listed 5 to 10 times in the search results.
    4. I would use Google search on this board (as more sophisticated alternative), but the board for customer is set private, so that no Google search is possbile.

Apart of the 4th point the search feature is not user friendly. Not here and not in the customer boards.
