marklcfc got a reaction from DSystem in Feature request - Meta image per topic
Allow a meta image to be uploaded per topic. Currently it just uses the default share photo so every shared topic looks the same if shared on social media (means less clicks and interest).
This is something I’ve needed for years which I’ve not even been able to get a working mod for.

I'd say the majority of users still don't even know it exists though which doesn't help

If it ever happens it'll be a cloud feature to rub everyones noses in it

The pages themself are very complex and even if possible redoing everything so its part of the Pages app would be another restriction I don't really want.

PM your forum so I can check it out to compare speed 👍
When you say I'm not technically savvy, maybe not, I've always got by, but not being able to upload self written php files for a seperate area of the forum doesn't come under not technically savvy, its a restriction. All cloud seems to accomodate is a basic forum.

I'm still hoping for an easy, elegant and native (no plug-ins) way to toggle dark/light mode on my Invision Community. Here's a toggle switch that is very elegant that hopefully will inspire the Invision Community designers:

marklcfc got a reaction from SeNioR- in CloudFlare settings
Had my first proper busy spike last night and the site crashed, got a load of internal server errors and had lots of these in the logs
2023/01/10 21:20:49 [alert] 127868#127868: *28491671 socket() failed (24: Too many open files) while connecting to upstream Pretty sure if I had guest page caching still it wouldn't have been as big a problem as it was, first time in 4 years the current server has ever been properly overloaded which I could see coming as soon as Guest page caching was removed. The amount of members and guests connecting to the site at the same time must have been pushing 2,000.
Not sure what I can do now as Cloudflare hasn't helped prevent this (its just set up with default settings, as mentioned earlier in the topic I tried to replicate the guest page cache but it never updated the site for guests for a long time)

marklcfc got a reaction from David N. in "Online now" badge?
It was part of software around 2.x but they removed it and just referred to it as clutter or something like that, one of a few things I never understood.

marklcfc got a reaction from SeNioR- in Design is overloaded
I never understood why follow had a whole line to itself 5 years ago, it was one of the first things I sorted out when upgrading to version 4

Don't do it to yourself, I spent months trying to figure out facebook and instagram embedding and got nowhere.

Yes, but you still have the cache set to 900 seconds (15 minutes) in the headers for guests 😉
Yep.
It's possible that it was a one-time situation, because the icons display correctly now.

Most of our user base browse our forum in dark recording studios and complain about the bright website, being used to dark mode. I wish Invision would add a Dark mode option.
I know there are workarounds, and I know about the Dark Mode 3rd party plug-in but it's got its own issues, so I would favor a built-in user setting in the core software.
