This is all the more reason to use a specialised service for such a process, such as Sendgrid. We were constantly getting blacklisted by Yahoo, Gmail etc. Since we moved to Sendgrid, not only is the email sending reliable, it's fast and we never end up on blacklists now. Our sending reputation is 98+, and the amount of emails I get from people saying they never got a Validation email is now zero. I cannot spend a hundred euros for Sendgrid. By the way there are many better email providers than Sendgrid but ipb only supports Sendgrid so it is essential that you implement both the ability to send emails by yourself and with other email providers.
