Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Ryan Thomas Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Hey guys, will we be able to migrate from Wordpress to IP Blog/Pages when IP Suite 4.0 launches?I can see the complete list of platforms that can migrate to the existing IP Board here:http://www.invisionpower.com/convert Will these all be able to migrate over to 4.0?
eshayem Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I hope it. I want too migrate from wordpress.
Murmel Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 But Wordpress is a Blog and IP Booard is a forum ;-).You should be more specific what do you want to migrate :-).
embies Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Wordpress nowadays is a CMS/Blog, Pages and Blog are respectively CMS and Blog, so it's not a weird question.I would assume you can move the same stuff if not more, but let's see what the Staff says, I would be interested too.
The Jimmo Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 But Wordpress is a Blog and IP Booard is a forum ;-). You should be more specific what do you want to migrate :-). He said Wordpress to IP.Blog and IP.Pages IP.Board is a forum and I am not aware that Wordpress has a forum.
Murmel Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 upps you both are right ...Reading helps :-) ... I didn't see the he mentioned the pages/blog module.
Ryan Ashbrook Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 We will review all currently available converters and determine which ones we need to keep. I'm fairly certain that WordPress to Pages will be one of them.
opentype Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 So I guess you only start with the converters once 4.0 is out and people wanting to start a 4.0 site but with converted data need to wait a little bit longer?
Murmel Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 BTW: I use both systems in different projects and compared WP with IPB. I think in IPB are some important features missing.

I'm fairly certain that WordPress to Pages will be one of them. Okay, this is great news and even if it's not available at launch, I can temporarily put my Wordpress site in a sub directory as it impatiently waits to be converted over cuz I'm going 100% in with IP suite 4.0 since I believe it will create a consistent experience as users jump from IP forums to IP blogs and pages.
Stuart Silvester Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 So I guess you only start with the converters once 4.0 is out and people wanting to start a 4.0 site but with converted data need to wait a little bit longer? The option is there to convert to 3.4.7 and then upgrade to 4.0 ( this can be done now ) -- Not that we recommend using Beta releases on a live site though.
Ryan Thomas Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Ok, I may actually consider doing this then...converting Wordpres to 3.4.7 first and then converting the entire Suite over. Great idea for those who need to immediately move over to 4.0!

Right now, I am only testing IP 4 in its own environment so I definitely agree to wait for the final build!
