I'm not looking to to go off the reservation on the recommended CHMODs (I played with that a lot, for the heck of it, when I first took over as an Admin in 2005, and the again the following year, when I moved to a new server -- I decided it was fairly pointless to determine the tightest possible perms on a file/directory basis) I've just always been curious what part of the system might need world access. is that part of the CHMOD only because IPB can't know each server's exact set-up, especially on diverse shared servers, over a span of many years? [That would seem a good enough reason to me. There were some pretty shaky hosts in 2003] I have my own server running a …

Hi all, I know this type of question often never gets an answer (because there's just so much that could be causing it) but I'm having really severe performance problems on http://forums.se-nse.net/ since upgrading to IPB3 at the weekend. I'm running all tables as InnoDB (apart from sessions on heap) and using XCache 1.2.2. I've enabled the MySQL slow query log and the culprit seems to be the queries of the form: SELECT t.tid, t.title, t.posts, t.start_date as post_date, t.views, t.title_seo, t.starter_name,m.member_id, m.members_display_name, m.members_seo_name FROM ibf_topics t LEFT JOIN ibf_forums f ON ( f.id=t.forum_id ) LEFT JOIN ibf_members m ON ( m.member…

I've had Xcache running fine on 5.2.* for some time now but I recently upgraded to 5.3.1 (cPanel) and it's broken my install. With Xcache loaded, I get PHP errors in IPB. I also have Ioncube loaded because I'm running Converge. Is this a compatibility issue? Am I going to have to revert to 5.2.12 if I want to run Xcache?

Recently my forums have been really slow at times, and it only seems to be my forums because when testing a temp. Homepage it loads instantly whereas forums take a while. So I'm just wondering is there any tips (such as the basics signature limits, using less images) to have my forums load faster? My forum usually has around 50 simultaneous users with GoogleBots viewing aswell. If you require any more information just ask, hopefully I'll receive some good advice. Kinda new to server stuff so go easy on me  Happy New Year to all

Hello! I have a large client that wants to build a forum for its customers. I have recommended IPB, but I haven't used it for anything until now - so I'm a real newbie! The client wants us to plan for 25000 simultaneous users. Not specified how many logged users in or not - let's suppose 5000 logged in. I'm sure 25000 sounds like a lot but considering the size of the client, I can understand the worry. Do you think this is doable with IPB? How would you go about doing this? I'm thinking 2-3 load balanced webservers running memcached and eaccelerator. The dabase server would need to have alot of memory and many CPU cores. For searching, we would use sphinx. Where should th…

Hello, I have tried all of the troubleshooting ideas listed here: http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/official.html?record=215 with no success. When I tried this however: update ibf_permission_index set authorized_users = NULL where authorized_users = '' it came up with 0 rows affected. But I went ahead and reindex Sphinx and it still did not work. We have a web server and a database server. I installed Sphinx on our DB server and it is confirmed up and running and indexed with all files created in the Sphinx folder. IPB 3.0.2 is pointed at the DB server's IP address. The two servers are connected via a crossover cable. When I try to search on ou…

Hello, I am looking to change hosts from the one I am currently on however I would like to move my database to the other host and before I do it I would just like to make sure I have a few things correct. So I've exported my Database onto my computer (everything seems to be there) so would I just import that using myPHPadmin on a blank database then install the forums to using that database and keep all my things from old forums? >_<
