Improved installation tips for novices
by Guest Defenestration- 1 reply

I've just finished installing IP 2.2 RC2 for the first time and after speaking to my web-host got it up and running on a sub-domain of my website. :) While the installation was quite straight-forward, there were a couple of areas which weren't so clear to a complete novice. It would be nice if the docs had the following additional info: 1) The install_guide.html says to CHMOD to 755 and if there are any problems CHMOD to 777, whereas ipb22docs.pdf says to CHMOD to 777 and if there are any problems CHMOD to 755. 2) A user on IPB Beyond mentioned that when you are on a shared server you should make sure you don't leave files with 777 permissions. It should be mentioned w…

IP Blog and IP Gallery
by Guest .Ryan- 3 replies

I was wondering if there is a way that people that are one the fence about purchasing IP Blog or IP Gallery could maybe get a time encoded version of it to test out on our sites or download the demo/trial. Because I am not sure if I really want Blog and Gallery or vise versa. But I would like to see what my members think of blog and gallery and have them give me feedback and see if they would really use it or not.\ I understand the problem of giving out to non-paying customers for blog and gallery, but it would definitely give me the purchase light or the lets find another option. I know they would use blog, but I am not sure about the gallery, verse another gallery or a…

Seems like it doesn't recognize that I have mysql installed, the following error is spawned after choosing start installation button (on the 5th dialog). I've used both the zend and the ioncube version with the same result. (I use Apache 2.0 + PHP/5.1.4 + mysql 5.0.21) (I have also mssql support enabled in my php version if that matters...) Anyway I would look into the code, but since it's encoded you'll have to do it... :) Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in C:\Webroot\ipb22\install\core\actions\install.php on line 24 Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in C:\Webroot\ipb22\install\custom\app.php on line 112 Warning: action_install::re…

Change default setting of New registration email validation
by Guest Defenestration- 0 replies

The "New registration email validation" setting should be changed to "User Email validation" by default so that novice users who use IPB will not have their boards spammed (as much :) ).

Birthday
by Guest Mark- 7 replies

Try enterring your birthday (in FF2) via the profile page using those drop-downs. Once you've clicked on any of the drop-downs (brithday, gender or location) the other two become active if you hover on them. So if you have your browser window positioned so that the drop-downs go upwards, it becomes very hard to enter the information as the other drop-downs keep being triggerred. Could you change it so the drop-downs are on click, not on hover, even if one of the other drop-downs has been selected.

Bugs vs Feedback
by Guest bfarber- 0 replies

Just a reminder to everyone I've noticed a lot of support-type topics cropping up recently and wanted to remind everyone that the goal for this forum was to get feedback on 2.2. It's in an RC status, which means it is still not officially supported. If you believe you've found a bug in IPB 2.2, by all means please report it to our Bug Tracker so we can ensure it's fixed up before release. If you think it's just an issue with your upgrade, or aren't sure, you may wish to use our 2.2 forum on IPS Beyond. That forum is mostly a free-for-all regarding 2.2 specifically. You can suggest feature suggestions here, however as 2.2 is mainly locked, I'd really recommend postin…

Login/Password Boxes for ACP
by Guest .KX- 3 replies
- 1.6k views
(This is on a default IP.Board 2.2 RC2 installation). If I go onto the Forum Search Page, there is the input box for "Search By Keywords" which has a white background and black text. If I go to the ACP Login Page, there are the input boxes for "User Name" and "Password" which have a grey background and black text. This is because of my theme(s) for XP (and Firefox) over-ride(s) the colours for things if they don't have a defined value. So basically, will you add the css so that the ACP input boxes like "User Name" and "Password" (though there are more) are styled with a white bg and black text or tell me how to do it, it looks horrible.

Easy Install Button 1 2
by Guest Canadian Hotdogman- 28 replies
- 7.2k views
Why can't there be an easy install button? It may sound a little bit ahead of it's time or unethical, but I think it would make things so much easier. Why can't there be a button in the ACP that if you press it it just upgrades your board the the newest available upgrade. I mean if you provide FTP access and everything, I see no reason why it can't just get the files and install them itself. I mean we have people smart enough to code something like that I'm sure. If it's a stupid idea then I'm sorry but it just occured to me and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't exist. Obviously it wouldn't be the only option for upgrading, but for people with completely default b…

Really wish IPS would check their coding before releasing
by Guest steve777- 14 replies
- 4.2k views
As per title .. Seems IPS just re-code for new versions but do not bother cheking if it affects the skin In board view click the 'Todays active topics' 'moderating team' etc using default skin and some of the text titles are out of alignment, yet in earlier releases it is not This is probably due to some new coding used in the template which although can be remedied is a pain to have to do ... all because someone is not checking what effect their code has afterwards Thought this had been tested 'in house' and in the beta release versions yet this is showing (as is problem with 'Options' drop down menu in Topic View which just scrolls to bottom of screen in IE6)

After posting
by Guest .KX- 1 reply

I hope everyone feels the same way as I do about this. There should be a per-user option for "Where to redirect after starting a topic?" and "Where to redirect after posting in a topic?". Possible choices are: To the topic. To the Forum which the Topic resides within. To the Board Index.Hopefully IPS would make it so that more could be added easily. Me, personally? After posting I always go to the View New Posts. If it would do that automatically I would love IPS just that little bit more. Please take time to think this through before voting for "Bad idea".

Show/compare IP addresses in the Member List/Profile
by Guest MrsSim- 1 reply
- 1.4k views
At a forum that I go to, I notice that there are people who double-register... a.k.a. when an already-registered member registers again for a different account. Because of scenarios like these, I've been pondering on whether IP addresses of a member should be listed alongside a member on the member list, along with a comparison of existing IPs to determine if there is a double-registration that has previously occured. Besides catching double-register-ers, this could benefit admins by these ways: If an admin deletes a spammer's post accidently without looking at the IP address in order to permanently ban, an admin can just look the user up, find his/her IP address, and ba…
