is there a developer API?
by Guest cheapbooks.com- 5 replies
- 1.7k views
Does invision have an API, so I could develop my own applications? In other words, I'd ideally like an API where I can make calls such as showing me all forums, all topics in a forum, all new topics, etc. This would allow me (and other developers) to develop more applications. Similar to the Amazon developer API. For example, I'd like an application to find duplicate posts and would write one. It is my personal opinion that the whole board should be API based, so third parties could develop their own tools easily in any language they choose...

What no front page portal? This actually a post sales question.

What happened to the IPB home page portal that used to come with IPB? I used to be an IPB maniac back when you were free and I installed ipb's for fun, now I'm back and building a site for my company and can't find that home page portal that used to come with IPB. Previous versions had front page portal plug in and I just bought the new version and I can't find it? Did you nerf it?

[Suggestion]Install Guide Update
by Guest sPiDeRz- 0 replies

Hey there, One thing i would like to see in future releases of IP.Board is the chmod guide to be updated. Not only tell us what each folder chmod should be but also tell us what the files within have to be. Example: cache + subfolders and its files chmod 777 Also like to see chmod settings for servers using PHPsuexec. this module doesnt allow files and folders to have permission 777 folders are meant to be 755 and files 700. I've had problems with my server about this. Still cant change the chmod on skin cache and folders/files located within it.

Hidden forums
by Guest Amy T- 0 replies
I would love to be able to hide a forum on the forum list in order to save space and also be able to have members get to that forum. This is a feature VB has and there is no way I am switching to that just for that one feature even though it is a nice one. I did talk to Josh H in a ticket about this and we found a way though my portal to do it but not do it the way I wanted. Basically I just want a hidden forum that members are allowed to see the thread list in just like the hidden forum on vb.

RSS Export
by Guest softshape- 7 replies
- 2.1k views
Hi all, my provider recently changed forum engine to Invision, and now all links in the RSS export point to the first message in the thread, not to the latest one (as it was before and as it supposed to be). When I asked him he said that the RSS module has to be rewritten. Is it so, or there is some option to handle RSS Export options ? How to make it point RSS items links to the latest message in the thread ? Thanks, Jury.

spammers using google to find registration pages
by Guest cheapbooks.com- 6 replies
- 1.5k views
I see people in my referal logs finding my site by typing "registration" at google and then going to the forums to register for the purpose of posting spam. there is little reason for most webmasters to have registration pages indexed on google. I'd like to request that this page be hidden from search engine spiders I dont think this can be done with robots.txt, which doesn't support parameters to cgi applications. anyway it should be done at the application level to ensure compliance

excessive / misused double quoting solution
by Guest cheapbooks.com- 4 replies
- 1.3k views
I have 2 issues when peopel use the quote feature. first, a lot of people click the quote feature then don't right a message. so I see a lot of replies that are merely quotes of other messages with no new content (totally blank). this ideally should be fixed second, when someone quotes a long article, you get a huge article quoted with 1 sentence added and it is a waste of space. the replier does not always edit the quoted region (people must not know about the 'add reply' feature). ideally, there should be an option to reduce the quoting... for example optionally (admin's choice) display the first 2 sentence plus ellipses (...) then remaining 2 sentences. or something…

new performance features?
by Guest cheapbooks.com- 4 replies
- 1.4k views
just wondering if you have or plan to install any of the following performance features: switch to lo-fi template when server load is highcache forum/home pages instead of pulling data from database automatically remove non-essential features like "board statistics" display when load is highswitch to lores images (gallery, nav buttons, logos, etc) when traffic is higher (load or bandwidth)auto-throttle by ip, so if an IP hits apps too fast, it gets the lofi templatesblock google/spiders from accessing things like "last post" link or anything else that creates duplicate pages. if a spider, don't offer the link. same with images, registration pages, help pages, etc.

WordPress and IPB
by Guest BryanH- 1 reply

Does anybody know how to connect the user databases for WordPress and IPB? So if someone were to register on IPB they'd also be registered for WordPress. Is this something that can be done via Converge? I'm just learning PHP, not a wizard by any stretch, and I'm willing to spend the time investigating it, but I don't know where to start! Any help? Anybody experienced in using Converge to plug-in to other non-IPS applications?

Secondary Group - Root Admin
by Guest Jason H- 4 replies
- 2.7k views
Because the functionality of this is rather confusing.. Many people move themselves out of the Root Admin group, or set themselves as a secondary Root Admin, not realizing that they don't have TRUE root admin privs as a secondary group.. Possible to disable being able to select the "Root" admin group as a secondary group? Seems to cause more problems than it's worth. Only advantage to it is if a user doesn't have a standard admin group, and wants someone to have standard admin privs. Seems that configuration would be extremely rare.. More rare than the number of people who move themselves out of the root admin group, or think a secondary group of Root Admin is the same …

IPB Classic Blue skin
by Guest Davtra- 6 replies

I really love the IPB Classic Blue skin, and I'm beginning to like the IP.Board Pro skin. But, with the Classic Blue skin, something has annoyed me for a couple/few years. Everything is perfect. You have taken great care in skinning your product, except for this on the board index: Where the red arrow is pointing, isn't there suppose to be a break?!? Go ahead, laugh because I already did :P

Moderator CP 1 2 3
by Guest XGhozt- 72 replies
- 18.9k views
It would be awesome if moderators had their own control panels, where they can view qued posts, or members currently suspended or accounts waiting for activation, etc. I realize that we can just add them as admin and limit their power, but thing is that when you have mods installed that add more things, you cant limit them. Plus, they can peek at some other things as well. So, with a moderator control panel that is basically a downsized admin control panel, it would be simpler. Now we would be able to set some moderators as semi admin, and others as simple mods. This also helps security, if an account is hijacked they cant get into the admin panel, merely the moderator …

Need Support
by Guest Atemu- 3 replies

I seriously need help, I'm studying Dutch, and trying to learn the language, and my school teacher changed the languages of our forums. Now I'm wanting to change the language dictoniaries back to English, but I don't have the faintest idea how to, is it done somehow through the index.php file? I also, accidentally removed the copyright on my forum, and I don't want to get sued, so what is that code that adds a copyright on my forum, I believe it's something like this: <-- Something to do here --!> I'm not sure. Thanks, Atemu

The next version: more statistics for the IPB
by Guest Energizer- 8 replies
- 2.1k views
I wish more statistics for the IPB. Not only number of members and contributions. I also wish number of the all of the topics and contributions. Number the complete hits. Number of registrations per day. The statistics should be stopped about the ACP. Also for this I wish members profile statistics more: Not only contributions and views. I also wish number of comments and friends.

POST requests from third websites
by Guest Developer- 0 replies

Hello, Is it possible to add POST requests filtering from third party websites for abuse and potential POST attack control ? Another forum software has a similar feature and returns this for third party POST queries. "In order to accept POST request originating from this domain, the admin must add this domain to the whitelist."

Not Sure...
by Guest Jaggi- 5 replies

...if its stupidity on my part or ips. Don't worry this is a suggestion I'm just gonna state the procedure first. Anyways today i was wanting to export some of my custom skin templates into xml and actually found out to do this properly is actually impossible. Few ways i went around it was first to export the skin set which was useless because it was encoded. So i turned on dev mode and tried these new features that were added to apparently help us modders. First i tried the Export Templates Bits feature to see if that worked. Well it gave me a unencoded xml which was a good start however it failed to give me the customizations and only the original edits. Ok so i moved o…

Add Topic to Digg, Stumble Upon, del.icio.us, Etc.
by Guest chefelf- 10 replies

Another feature I would really like to see in newer releases is to add to the bottom of the first post in each topic a way to quickly submit the topic to Digg, deli.cio.us, etc. Preferably it could have some built in big names like Digg, Stumble Upon, etc. with the ability to add custom submission to other newer or lesser known sites. I think a lot of people would be interested in this as a way to drive traffic to their sites. Also having the ability to turn it on/off would be great, particularly in conjunction with IPDynamic. Thanks!
