I had this too, turns out it was @Aiwa's Steam Integration (v3.0.1) which he released on Github. As soon as I removed it; all of a sudden everything went back to normal. Not sure if you have this or not, but if you do - look into it.

The other one I have just seen is people who had stop forum spam as an application previously, and have columns still existing which is causing errors. You would see this in your system logs if this is the case

    Neither apply in my case.

  2. In an old team thread (no access for members), I have a newer post from an old moderator and an edit notice from a non-moderator member. Strangely, if I remain on the page, every few minutes a replica of the message is posted - 'show new reply'. If I refresh the page, only the first new message is displayed and additional replica messages are again generated every few minutes (with the same edit notice - date of post and edit: 3rd Jan 2023).

The moderator did not post the edited message (he left the team many years ago). And I have checked an archive of the forum from about 6 months ago - the new message does not appear there. As far as I can tell, the account apparently making the edit has not returned to our message board since writing a single (unrelated) post on 3rd Jan. 2023.

I would assume this is a bug, but coincidentally, the old moderator returned just after Christmas with a new account, as he was unable to login to his original account (the password does not work). I've checked the email address for his original account - it is unchanged. (The old moderator does return to our site every year or two to say hello, so I do not feel that (in of itself) is suspicious.

I lean towards a bug being responsible rather than something nefarious. This is quite the coincidence - but I need to determine the cause for certain.

  3. Hi.

About 10 hours ago a member joined our community: there are two instances of the username, with the same email address.

I had assumed that the account was duplicated somehow, but each accounts have their own posts and they are not the same. This appears to be a genuine member, so I do not wish either account to be summarily deleted without understanding the consequences of this.

I've double-checked the username and email address - they are identical. When I view 'Member History', both accounts appear in the list, with registration actions duplicated for each account.

    Thanks.

Some of these items from Google can be very confusing 😄 . Glad you got an answer, even though still is confusing.

What makes little sense is the initial explanation of, "Video outside the viewport", compared to the more detailed explanation of:

    Quote

Whether the page is a playback page for a single video (Video is main content on the page), or hosts additional meaningful content or videos (Video is supplementary content on the page).

I do not understand how that relates to the viewport. Oh well.

  5. Ah. I just drilled down a bit into one of the non-indexed videos. Console reports: "Whether the page is a playback page for a single video (Video is main content on the page), or hosts additional meaningful content or videos (Video is supplementary content on the page)."

So, it seems - if I understand correctly - that videos which appear within some threads do not fulfill some mystery Google criteria. What is more perplexing is that the number of indexed videos has actually gone down by about 20%.

Anyway, seems to be nothing to do with IPB or anything which is technically rectifiable.

  6. Hello,

I would like to disable archiving (Cloud). Well over 3m posts. This is causing us very significant problems. I have upped the limit to 12 years (the maximum allowed), but this is not good enough. Content goes back 19 years, and we still have active members who joined from that period.

We also have some members who return many years later and most (or even all) of their content has disappeared from their profile and searches. Other members cannot seek out the old content from a member they find interesting or useful.

I have a member who returned just today - only 803 of her 3,281 posts are practically accessible.

I am also planning to soon send an email circular to all old members - but any who might return will find their older history decimated. (For some, this could mean most or even all of their history has effectively disappeared).

The very nature of our community means that older content does not become out-dated. And some members remain active from earliest days. What is the solution?

    Thanks.

Nope - it's a user group level control, not a moderator restriction control.

It is listed as a moderation action when enabled. And, in my opinion, being able to delete the posts of other members is a moderation control. Irrespective, surely there should be the option to allow members to delete their own posts without also allowing them to delete the posts of other members. Yes?

In any group there is "Can delete own content"

Yes. But it allows the member to delete the whole thread.

  8. Thanks for the reply, @Miss_B, but WOW! This software does not allow for members to delete their own posts!? I had mistakenly enabled the option suggested further up. Obviously, that's not appropriate for most situations. So, members can delete whole threads to which other members have contributed, but cannot delete individual posts. That's bizarre.

I'd appreciate this being confirmed by a member of the IPS team.

    Thanks.
