Linux-Is-Best got a reaction from olavrb in CKEditor 4 end of life - alternative editor consideration
CKEditor 4 is reaching the end of life (source). Instead of jumping onto the CKEditor 5 bandwagon, I propose Invision consider an alternative editor. There are many well-established modern editors such as, for example, TinyMCE, Froala, Quill, and Redactor, to name a few. Any of these would make satisfactory alternatives.
    Ā
CKEditor may be 'old school,' but it has become bloated, larger in file size and load time.Ā  Most of the issues it encounters often have to do with responsive layouts on a mobile device and excessive load time. As mobile continues to dominate the landscape, I feel it may be prudent to focus on an editor development that has kept up successfully with the times with the least issues.
    Ā
Changing the editor should not be expected in the next release. But a roadmap should be considered for a future transition.Ā  Thank you for your time and consideration. šŸ˜€

Guests can't vote in polls, and I don't believe that has ever been possible with the software (a vote in a poll is captured against the account ID, that is how it can be seen if 'you' have voted or not - Guests don't have an account ID, and if it was tracked then it would have to be by IP address, MAC address, browser user-agent....all of can be manipulated by the user, thus introducing fake votes)

I am sorry to tell you there will be no way to overcome this. Looking at your source, which is the state of Pennsylvania website, not all their site is using HTTPS. For example, if you try to visit http://www.dot35.state.pa.us/public/Districts/District2/WebCams/CAM02022CCTV26.jpg it works, butĀ https://www.dot35.state.pa.us/public/Districts/District2/WebCams/CAM02022CCTV26.jpg does not contain a certificate (it is not HTTPS enabled). Since this is not your website, it is outside of your control.

Itā€™s a community forum. Official IPS support is only guaranteed through support tickets. So all answers here are purely voluntary and a favour of other Invision Community users. We will decide if itā€™s worth our time to answer and we also might considerĀ HOW the questions is asked. The tone on of certain people here might not be all that motivating to give helpful answers.Ā
But anyway:Ā In the end, all of these functions are possible attack vectors. For potential attackers (just like potential burglars)Ā its usually a case of ā€œonce youā€™re in, youā€™re inā€. There is nothing specific that happens, when you leave your backdoor open and there is nothing specific that happens to have these commands active. But IF they are being used in a malicious way, then the results are potentially very serious. Essentially, your server can be taken over and used for all kinds of bad things. So if your site doesnā€™t need those functions anyway, itā€™s best to have them disabled. Itā€™s highly appreciated that IPS has a warning function for that.Ā

It tells me that a support question with 2 pages worth of post, over a week old, is likely already answered and may go unnoticed. If you were trying to suggest that the lack of a speedy reply was a guaranteed method to detect how vital something is or not, that would be a poor choice of judgment. Especially considering this is all happening on the weekend evening (Saturday, evening) when most folks are not keeping business hours. The comment you are addressing was posted on a Friday evening when most people have "punched out" for the weekend.Ā But I digress. Just because someone has not rushed to provide a detailed explanation (in your presumed time frame) does not imply anything is safe or not.
    Ā
Respectfully, @Square Wheels, I would not take @AlienOrigins seriously concerning this matter. He/she started this thread expecting people to read his/her mind (not even explaining what the issue was). When folks pointed out that this warning was by design, for your protection, he/she basically said he/she does not care.Ā
    Ā
As a rule of thumbĀ  @Square Wheels you should avoid exposing your site to anything that could cause it harm. Keeping your site safe is not going to hinder your usage. My test site has 13 different developments, for example (domaintaken.org), and everything works. I do not need to make my site less secure to have things function. Anyone telling you not to worry about security, in general, I do not believe has your best interest in mind.

I feel ya. It's a tough line for us to straddle between being transparent with our Community and letting you all know what we're up to and being more secretive. We'd rather let you guys in and be subject to some criticism (like the wait time for 4.6 & Achievements) versus us doing our thing and our community having no idea about what's going on.Ā
Don't be angry šŸ™‚ Be happy! Once it's out I suspect you'll be grateful we took an extra bit of time to improve things versus rushing it.Ā

    Happy Hump Day, fam!Ā
Been receiving a lot of messages about 4.6 and Achievements. We're near the finish line (I know that's annoying to hear but we're close!).
Why the wait? We absorbed a ton of useful feedback from you and are implementing it šŸ‘ Achievements isĀ turning out even more epic than what we launched hereĀ a few weeks agoĀ šŸ˜. It'll be worth the wait (again, annoying I know,Ā but sit tight).
Our talented team of Code Yodasā„¢Ā (aka our developers) implemented some cool additions that'll make their red carpet debut in 4.6. šŸ“øĀ
The ones we're highlighting today are the improved appearance of Notifications SettingsĀ and Top Files reporting in the ACP. Shout-out to YouTube Short URLs being fixed as well.

    Improved appearance of Notifications Settings
You'll notice we're adding more flexibility to control what kinds of notifications show, and incorporating them with the Push notifications feature.Ā šŸ˜Ā . Thanks to @RikkiĀ for hooking up the screen shot preview!

Most Downloaded files statistics in the ACP
And for the data junkies, we'veĀ also added statistics for the most downloaded filesĀ in the ACP. Shout-out to @Matt Finger for this implementation!

    Ā
Our full list of changes made in the last week:
    - Fixed an issue where changing table filters could cause the table to be stuck in loading state due to an underlying error.
    - Fixed an issue where Stripe webhook events may fail in some circumstances.
    - Account settings will no longer prompt for re-authentication if the account does not have a way of re-authenticating. Applies mostly to custom SSO integrations.
    - Fixed an issue where Youtube Shorts URLs would not embed.
    - Fixed an issue where API requests may cause an error if referencing transactions from deleted members.
    - Improved the appearance of the Notification Settings screen.
    - Added support for converting Markdown formatted posts in Vanilla.
    - Fixed some issues when converting from Vanilla and your files used to be in S3.
    - Added statistics pertaining to the most downloaded files

Lots of exciting things going on here. What's your favorite from the list? Sound off in the comments - we'd love to hear from you!Ā

Linux-Is-Best got a reaction from abobader in Better badge look in Topic
As a matter of opinion, I like the location of the badges. I feel far too many things are centered on "postbit" on most forums, which adds too much noise. The unification of everything neatly in its place means I often tune stuff out and forget something is there. Introducing a little harmless chaos to the layout gives the site character and makes it more attractive. If someone wanted it centered, they could perform a template edit or perhaps use some CSS. But I, for one, like the location 'as is.'Ā
    Ā
As for the coloring of the badges, I believe that depends on the avatar. Where it is located can cause a bit of a color clash depending on what your avatar looks like. I am using Linux (openSUSE Tumbleweed) with Mozilla Firefox (Ā Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:89.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/89.0Ā ) and find no real issue. But for argument's sake, attached are a few random screenshots.Ā

Upon uploading my attached (see post above), I notice they look a little rough around the edges. But this being an alpha, I do not presume the images used were of HD quality, merely proof of concept.
