    "Hot garbage" is a vibe.
The blog application is designed for community blogging more than one source blogging as we do in our news blog. As you can see, Pages is more than capable of powering a block with a few custom templates. In terms of the community blog, what would you like to see added?
Appreciate the kind words, thank you!

What would I do differently? I honestly don't know. I'm pretty happy where we ended up and making changes to decision making may have taken us elsewhere. There's some wasted time in pursuing a 'social' element to the software in response to the birth of Facebook that I'd not bother doing again. I'm pretty happy with all the big decisions we made.

In terms of challenges starting out; just keeping the lights on honestly. We barely covered costs and a small wage for ourselves for years. Turns out there's not a lot of money made when you give away software. 😀

As for the photos? Never say never but probably not. 😇

While I am waiting for a support issue that is really important to our website after upgrading to 4.6.12, I thought of browsing the IC community to see if anyone else has the same issue, and while this thread has nothing to do with my issue, I was intrigued by its title, since that is exactly how I think an IC forum should be, 'nice'.
So a cursory review of this thread of three pages (so far) about this new feature being a 'Waste of time' or a 'bad idea' or "endless nonsense like 'stay on topic' or some other silly rule" or "don't think this comes close to being called a new feature" or " the 'friendly reminder' under your image some sort of threat veiled threat" or "Ridiculous and stupid 'feature' " or "this hardly can be new feature" or "A very, very weak tool"  I find this new feature worth learning about since I have never used it, didn't know about it at all and since we recently switched to a subscription based member forum allowing only guests to view a small portion of our website data and culling through all the 'guest' posts which are 99.9% spam I was wondering if this feature would work with guest posts that require NO registration?
I have never used this feature and would like to dive in but if it doesn't work for guests that would be sad. I am sorry I am not as up to date as some of you are in this thread but this feature looks extremely complicated to me based upon my cursory review of this thread and I know will take me a few hours to figure out so I appreciate anyone explaining to me if this works for guest posts? Anything that warns a spammer to be nice and follow the rules would be a 'nice' feature to warn spammers even though they may still get by this feature and continue to post their spam.

Some of us can get "quite" passionate about new features, hence Jordan's gentle hint to "Just be Nice".
Everyone's needs are different so it's unlikely every new feature will be considered universally useful.
Programmers get progressively more creative the more features they tackle. For each less than useful feature that gets released the programing team becomes more and more capable at tackling more complex features "you" and I will want.
Software development can be quite frustrating and often times praise is few and far between. If a feature isn't something necessarily praiseworthy (to you or I) being silent might be the nice thing to do.
As our Community Advocate, @Jordan Miller is attempting to convey that a community that's "nice" can advocate far more effectively for themselves than one that's adversarial.

Sure, there are ways to get around it, however the message still stands to the user that they've been privately warned and then chose to ignore the guidelines. The moderator at that point may or may not want to take action. 😀

I know that no feature is ever truly "feature complete".

    < "🧀Cheese Whiz🧀, @Matt don't take me "too" literally.">
Some features will remain untouched for long periods of time after being initially released before you review all internal and external suggestions.  You will respectfully collect feedback, but not necessarily encourage it.  For all intents and purposes, it's feature complete unless there are really compelling reason(s) to further develop it.
There are some feature releases like this one where @Jordan Miller appears to be encouraging community feedback and maybe, just maybe (my assumption and I might be wrong) is that the IPS might be open to incorporating some suggestions sooner rather than later.  If that is the case, this feature is not yet locked down.
An appreciably different implementation of this feature "could" be released in the coming months and "that" version would be considered "feature complete" by IPS at least for the foreseeable future.
@Jordan Miller A couple of extra sentences here and there when discussing new or upcoming features could go a long way in better managing customer expectations and allow us to more readily adapt to a monthly release cycle. 🙏

It currently only works in editors (so when you compose new content). It does not apply to custom profile fields, or content titles. The implementation is just a JSON list in HTML which is processed by javascript on submission, so it's not particularly intensive.

As Jordan noted, it's not meant to be a cast iron wall to prevent you from posting specific things, but more a nudge to reconsider. There's just too many ways to get around a word filter to even try stopping it.

@Chris Anderson Nothing is ever feature complete. 🙂

That would also be the case in posts. Like f**k and so on. In my use case I also would have had used this function on the word "code" or "discount code". Just a friendly reminder - nothing else. There are planty of other ways members can spread the word. A funny thing is that when I google one of the discount codes it actually comes out in google as a hit - even if I always displays codes as images - not txt.
Another use case in messages is off-corse sexual harassment of other members by PM.
Update: Thanks @Jordan Miller confirming this - we posted at the same time

Whoa! What a whopper of a topic and what amazing feedback.
I have learned a lot from you all. Here's the business objectives and opportunities that may have been missed...
    1. Every site owner needs to assess their target prospects and determine the relevance of these types of cohorts and where they may want to gravitate. Are you serving a community of interest or a community of practice? Would Special Interest Groups, Birds of a Feather, Executive Think Tanks or some other form of "club" be most appropriate? Once you have your answers for these then move to point #2.
    2. Is it possible to offer any type of industry benchmarking data? Can you figure out how to share peer average and best-in-class data? This is not easy, nor inexpensive, but for business-oriented sites it can be a game-changer.
    3. Figure out how to run a regularly scheduled webcast.
    4. Make sure to offer "soft" gamification (i.e. point accrual" which is now possible via the IPS app, itself, or you can step up and run the Member Shop plugin app which features fine-grained gaming rules with a bank account. Now, for the biggest and most dramatic way to grab audience participation... drum roll please......
    5. This needs IPS leadership and software support... Offer "Hard" gamification where the points which have been accrued in the member's bank account can be swapped for ENJ (Enjin) coins. This is the route that Facebook will be taking and IPS can help us by developing a DAO, supporting Defi and Blockchain, Smart Contracts and NFTs. This will be a game changer especially if you, as site owner, know which Sponsors would like to offer NFT's coins, prizes, etc.
I'd be glad to raise my hand to assist wth further guidance on how to get started.

    Best Regards,
    Phil Wilson

This could help against trolls plugging competitors products on company forums as well.  The functionality lends itself to a lot of scenarios.

We have helped dozens of new and existing communities in the past few years. Not to mention all the hundreds or thousands who use us but don't work with us directly.
You need to offer value to users, and you need to market the community to present that value to them. Social media has a leg up on the second one because the users are already there, but there is no reason why an independent site (whether it's a 'forum based community' as you put it, or any other kind of community) cannot also be successful. There are many thousands of successful sites out there, so if a site doesn't succeed it cannot really be blamed on the tech giants. Either you didn't offer enough value, or you were unable to get it seen by the right people.
It's a bit weird to measure your success in terms of number of members vs. Facebook. Measure your success in something more meaningful to your site. Is it providing value to people, is it covering its own costs, is it growing? A small community site with 100 people can absolutely be counted as a success if it has achieved its goals.

Having a forum geared towards a specific niche is truly beneficial.. I find that a community forum and a social media platform are not one in the same... both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks for weighing in! From my own personal experience, social media can be a super powerful tool to convert guests to members. I do think it depends on the niche, but I see on a daily basis how a community leader can make social media work for your community.
In my own community, guests can view a few topics per day before being asked to register. They tend to register because they find the topics valuable. They also spark an emotion. Therefore, registrations continue to climb! A lot of these people found my community because of the shares on social media. 🤓
