I think it's still too early...

Yes that occurred to me after posting, but it's not 100% required. It think it should be restricted to the majority of Commerce related pages.

@bfarber I would also love the option to restrict this to commerce related pages also.
Also is there an option to redirect the user to a stripe checkout page rather than using the integrated commerce one?
People on our community would feel more confident in entering there details

SUBRTX reacted to Mercury5 in IPS 4.5.4: InnoDB tables are using Compact row format...
I proceeded to ask my webhost about this and they gave me a link to stackoverflow site to do it myself. They have faith where as I do not. I have no idea and wouldn't like to attempt such a thing.

Your host thinks you want to change this at the server level, which is not what is required.
All you have to do is modify your own database tables, not the server itself. So check if the tables can already be modified.

    I have the same feeling.
I think ips can go with their own business strategies, but some basic goals are same for FB, Twitter and others social platforms... The UI and UX. If ipb has to learn something of these big companies, why not? These companies spend so money and effort to get the best result. Flarum is a good example to get better result of UX and UI

    Thank you for your contribution
I find that Word press does not reach the level of IPS at all in user profiles, user management, quality of admin panel, ease of use etc. The IPS top is much further ahead
Word press exceeds IPS in the number of applications, the value of certain (less risk of abandonment because they are the largest companies behind) but does not exceed I find in the quality and the precise contribution to specific users, I speak in any case of my needs. I find them quite poor in functionality, and not very attractive.

a lot of things can only be done from a not very attractive admin panel

On word press, I believe that we are also faced with concerns when the apps are not updated, interference between them ...
I thought about going to word press but the quality and the greatest maneuver to manage specific users and groups, it is especially here that I will find it.
(if you want to write articles and only that without the need for user monitoring, then yes word press will surely be better)
But in choosing IPS, the basis is that you choose to bring things to specific users or groups.
What interests me about IPS is its strength in user management with its groups, and ease of use.
Even though, as I mentioned, some things need to be improved, it is possible to do some very good things. I still believe in it, I don't find them behind on everything.
I must say that I am a little behind in my knowledge of some new web applications like (slack, reddit etc) but I believe that these are two totally different uses and therefore incomparable with IPS

I don't believe that today's users don't have the time - they have as much time now as they did in 2000.  The differences between then and now are threefold; 1) Most users now rely on mobile phones for Internet access, this makes it difficult to enjoy the full-on effect of a forum platform. 2) The Internet is dominated by the likes of Facebook and Twitter which are wholly mobile phone friendly.  3) People are lazier today and want instant gratification and can't be bothered (not that they don't have the time) to work through a system of menus.
IPS is never going to be able to fully compete with FB and Twitter et-al, when their system is not really suited to mobile phone use - it is useable, but people are lazy and lack the motives to use the menu systems - which are very easy to use when it all comes down to it.  It's sad, because the very people that IPS customers want to attract are missing out on so much because they can't be bothered to navigate a menu system.  So, the question is whether it's IPS or people that are at fault.  My money is on people.  Sure, there is more than can be done to streamline 'some' areas, but it is what it is, and you can't make a square peg fit into a round hole (unless you take to brute force lol).
This is really a circular argument because there is no quantifiable answer to the people problem.  In order for IPS to mitigate the people problem, they would have to completely redesign their software and it would no longer be a community suite, rather it would be more of a FB or Twitter clone and another like that would be one too many.
The simple answer would be not to use IPS if it doesn't fulfill your needs.
    🙂

Sorry, @annadaa, but you will be talking to the wall about this in here.
After 10-12 years using IPB, the focus of the app is still the same.
All I can think about this is that:
The staff behind the development might be the same from 10+ years ago and are stuck in the 2000s, or... IPB is a niche product to attract a certain profile of community owners, that like the "forum style from 2000s" to compete with other similar options in the same market. It's 2021, while plataforms like reddit (open-source by the way), have a simple UI with a app that works, IPB have.... clubs, calendar...
It's like IPB exists in a separate world where wordpress, social media, file sharing like google drive don't exist, so they invest in stuff like cms, pages, file sharing system, blogs, etc...
A lot - if not all - of that features worked very well in 2007-2014, because the options were very limited.
Just for example: TODAY, I would never, in a million years, pay U$100 for ipb ecommerce or blog (U$175 for both), with wordpress and woocommerce being free, with a bigger community and, actually, better. If you don't like wordpress, there's a lot of other free options that fit the category as well, this is just an example.
By the way, I use several different apps in my projects. Can you bet which is the only one of them that have problems with performance and needs a lot of server side tweaks or/and will crash my server/generate downtime in almost every new major upgrade? Tip: ipb
I'm an unhappy costumer and, as of right now, I feel stuck with IPB.
I already tried changing plataforms in the past, but it was a SEO disaster. Right now, I'm learning django and flutter, to make my own solution (just for my own projects, not to sell for others).
I simply can't see myself still using IPB in the future.
The only good thing I notice was an improvement in support. Five (or so) years ago, even paying for updates, staff would treat you as if they were doing a favor (in several occasions my hosting company support at the time fixed problems caused by IPB major upgrades). Now IPB support is MUCH better.
Please, I'm not trying to win any arguments, this is my experience with IPB in respect with my particular needs, just that...

SUBRTX reacted to Makoto in What are the optimum settings for Invision on CloudFlare?
Your cache level should definitively be Standard, the default setting. Using anything else will break IPS' cache busting feature, which is needed to recache static assets.
Cache TTL can come down to a matter of preference. Considering important resources like CSS and Javascript assets are cache busted as needed, it's safe to use values up to even 30 days if you so wish.
The potential concern with this is, if image attachments are deleted but left embedded into posts as an example, they will still display as cached in the users browser for however long you set this to. So, it can be a minor privacy concern, as IPS currently does not automatically remove image embeds from posts when attachments are deleted from the users control panel.
That's really the only thing to keep in mind. Otherwise, I recommend at least 7-days personally.

Outside of these, there are several useful features Cloudflare provides that I recommend taking advantage of.
Note, some of these features are Pro only, but if you're a Free user, use the ones that aren't. They help if even a little bit and there's no reason not to.
Now, if you have a high traffic website and you can afford it, I personally believe it's worth upgrading to the Pro plan.

But to get started with the optimizations, under the Speed tab, go to Optimization and make sure these settings are enabled.

Polish with WebP enabled can be hugely useful if you have a lot of PNG attachments / avatar uploads on your site, as WebP can provide substantially better lossless image compression compared to PNG.
Auto Minify is disabled by default and you should enable it. The actual performance improvement is small, but it's still an improvement with no risks, so there's no reason not to use it.
Brotli, again, small improvements, but no risks and and no reason not to use it for clients that support it. All the overhead involved in performing the compression is handled by Cloudflare here after all.

Enhanced HTTP/2 Prioritization and TCP Turbo are again zero risk performance improvements and if you have access to them you should enable them.
Mirage can be great in theory for mobile browsers by automatically optimizing images on slow networks. It's in beta, but I do definitely recommend enabling this. Roughly half the of the internets traffic today is mobile. These optimizations can yield huge benefits to your users.
Rocket Loader I do not recommend enabling, as it can cause functional and perceptional issues with IPB. It makes things look and act in strange ways, and can potentially just break things. Rocket Loader is one of those things that works well for some sites, but is awful for others. It's not great for IPB in my experience. I say the same for PageSpeed JS optimizations and so on as well.
Under the Network tab, make sure these settings are enabled.

All of these are, again, zero risk performance optimizations. No reason not to use them.
Argo tunnel can potentially be useful as well, but note that it can be extremely expensive depending on your bandwidth requirements. It's an additional $0.10/GB of bandwidth. Do not enable it until you have at least a months worth of bandwidth analytics logged from Cloudflare so you have an idea of how much you can expect to pay if you enable this feature.

It would be great if you integrate this feature and doing it modifiable by admins. For example:
    * Congratulations, you've wrote your first message/reply
    - created your first topic
    * ...you've wrote your 10th/50th/100th message
    * ...you've your first like
    - first liked answer...etc etc etc
and notifiable via forum and/or e-mail...
also visible on profil under like 'User achievement' tab...

SUBRTX reacted to CoffeeCake in Please make a tutorial/guide on installing/configuring redis
I apologize. It was not my intention to be insulting. There's a difference between having committed dedicated resources for your site and self-managing servers. You mentioned contacting your hosting provider with software installation. That's an atypical expectation, in my experience, without paying a premium for a fully managed solution. I think @Matt's remarks were in line with thinking, on the basis of what you've shared in this thread, that you're asking your host to install something for you. I've never encountered that in any hosting setup where you're not on a shared hosting platform.
    Have you started here?
    https://redis.io/topics/quickstart
What distro is your dedicated server? Have you tried "install redis <name of distro>" as a search term?
For us, on debian, it was a simple as:
$ sudo apt install redis-server Following that, reading through the .conf file, making appropriate changes, reading up on security considerations, and ensuring that the daemon was setup as a service that would launch on boot.
If you're not comfortable with taking the time to go through the documentation and startup guides on readily available resources that are a quick search engine's journey away, and are expecting someone to do this for you, or list out exactly what you need to do, a bit of grace might go a longer way. Absent all that, consider hiring someone to do it for you that has the time, skillset, and/or desire to learn to do so.
