I am assuming the "chat" is scrollable while it is live(?).

I'm a little confused on this one, as the following is stated in the registration settings:
"These settings apply to all new accounts, both those created from the standard registration form and through other login methods."

So I've just tested out signing up using the Google authentication method and I get this as the user:

 
And there is the user awaiting admin approval in the ACP:

Sites went down around 11pm EST. The first email I received was at 5:19am EST. So... no communication for 6 hours.

Yes. As the event progresses, it just feels like a live chat room.  (There is the chat side and the “questions” side.)  People can come and go as they want. 

Once it’s done, it automatically makes the forum topic and converts all the chat messages into replies in that topic. 

I believe it shows up only in forums where the solved is enabled.
