    This is really excessive.

It looks even worse if your forum background is set to white.

The Marketplace is a service. While you are of course acquiring third party resources, you are not obtaining them directly from third party authors and it is really no different than other app stores. Your transaction is conducted through IPS and the Marketplace is a remote service. The point here is just to dispel the silly notion that we're in "breach of contract." The EULA makes clear the fact that a renewal is required for all updates, services, etc.
To provide further clarification, an expired license does not shut off the software and you may continue its use in an "as-is" state (at time of expiration), but it does effectively render both the license and status as a customer as inactive. It is no secret that our company is based on the recurring investment model, so while we don't want anyone to feel held hostage to renewals and we try to reasonably accommodate all customers past and present, our decisions and prioritization of goals will ultimately be in the interest of those continuing along side of us, sharing our overall vision.
With all of that said, this topic has been discussed several times and ultimately, the Marketplace was moved to the AdminCP for what I hope are obvious reasons. A significantly improved and smooth experience for the majority of customers who want a point-and-click experience, consistent with most non-classic "forum" platforms. We want to take every reasonable measure possible to ensure that when you click to install something from the Marketplace, it will be a successful and safe experience for you. We've tightened the framework around that to ensure you're notified with seamless updates from authors and anything installed through the Marketplace framework has been reasonably reviewed by us. We made the decision to disallow manual downloads from the Marketplace as it is entirely counterproductive to the goal we set out to achieve in the first place.
I want to stress that you are welcome to contact an author for manual file provisions if you would like and we do not prohibit them from providing it. You may also purchase from some authors directly if you wish. The only caveat for both cases is, you would use the manual (old) framework to install and update these resources manually. A warning will also be generated because these are untested files - similar to Mac and Windows. Beyond that, we're not standing in your way of using the "old school" way - we are just not facilitating it as again, it is counterproductive to our goal of something that resembles more of a proper app store and not just a repository of "files."
I'm sorry for the disappointment to those find the previous method to work better for them. As you know, we try to take on board as much feedback as we can - after all, there's no point to any of this without customers. Nonetheless, while we've heard the feedback loud and clear, we do not intend on reversing course on downloads or policy changes, so at this juncture, I would very respectfully ask that we move on to other, more actionable feedback items.
Thank you as always for your continued business.

As recommended, I'm creating this topic to reinstate the option to download files manually from the Marketplace.
It's bad enough you don't allow the download of apps we purchased when our licence has expired. But, to completely change the way file downloads are handle is a little much.

Please don't get me wrong, I love the idea that we can now do it all with ACP, but you shouldn't disable/change the way that a lot of us download files for localhost setups to test our sites before going live.

Please, please, please allow the option to download files manually like we've done for so many years!

I thank you for at least acknowledging our requests. It's unfortunate that the app devs making money from these can't even be bothered to check once daily to reply.

While I agree that social media doesn't "pay" you for your content, some communities just like paying their members for the content that they contribute to the forum. There is lots of reasons why one may want to do this type of plan.

Actually, forums have been "paying" people for posting since the beginning of time.
We pay them in badges, in ranks, in pips, in titles, in signatures, in special permissions, in upgraded membergroups, in crazy formatting and styling.  We've been paying and paying since forums have been around.

It's certainly something a lot of us have been asking over the years, we had IP Points, then iAwards, etc for v2.x and I think even 3.x. It would certainly be welcomed, but I can't see it getting much traction within the team. But it would be something I'd use. I've had to stop using Jackals and gone back to Michaels point system, but both are very basic and doesn't suit my needs.

I feel you 🙏 I do think gamification is pretty important. I was previously told that IPS isn't heading in that direction currently, but I will circle back because I find a lot of value in it (no pun intended 😝)

    This would be amazing!
Members Shop application looks like it does most (if not all) of this, but for something this major it would be great to have it natively built and integrated into IPS, as I can see some mixed reviews on the third party integration.

I purchased this addon but for a $35 app, the dev is not very responsive to questions and suggestions. The APP is missing so much vital controls, it makes it hard to use. I have a forum that pays members for posting but I must hard limit their group to xx amount of posts per day in order to stop them at a certain point from earning. It shouldn't have to be this way. If the user wants to continue posting and not care about points for rest of the day, they physically can't because of the way the app is. The app is not intertwined to the commerce exchange points for currency, so that's another flaw. The app doesn't support deletion of points for a post getting soft deleted, only perm deleted. I'd like to keep the post if a user gets warned as proof, but can't be bothered to deduct all the points. These things need to be automatic. I find it hard to continue using IPB because of these restrictions whereas Xenforo has DragonBytes credits which can do ALL of these features...
I'd love to see points be integrated with the actual software and support all of these major features which is very widely needed.

Right now, staff with access to Support within Commerce have the ability to see details about the member that may disclose their identity. Things like a customer's real name, email address, and other details. In our community, we've removed this access this via a custom modification we've developed, however I believe this should be an out of the box permission.
Please provide a discrete permission to restrict personally identifiable information from staff without the necessary administrator permission to do see that information. It is not necessary for someone replying to support requests to necessarily have access to e-mail addresses, the real name of the customer, etc.
Shout out to @theipsguy for this format for sharing ideas that I'll totally steal.

I realize I'm just getting greedy at this point... but one more I just thought of:
Automatically show the video's duration - Right now the gallery doesn't show you the video length until you've already loaded the video - would be great if a youtube-style timestamp was automatically included in the corner of the thumbnail (e.g. 04:21 for a 4 minute 21 second video).

Just to expand on this, I'm proposing a search that a member can do inside of private conversations. (In the same way you could search for a specific phrase within a public thread by selecting "this topic" in the search options, instead you would be able to search for a specific phrase within a private conversation in the search options too).
We have people with conversations of 50+ pages who would love this feature.
    Thanks.

If you click the black popup at the bottom, it still leaves the notification. Would be great if they synced up.

Every app should be able to include a gallery album, tag or similar. Most things are still very silo'd; lots of potential if things can start to interconnect more.
Also, more photo ordering options. I have to be very careful in what order I select the images to upload so they appear in the intended order on the site.

Just wondering if this is something you think may get included in a future release?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I would guess a lot of sites don't utilise features like calendar events or commerce, and so creating a new topic is the only option for users. Therefore removing the extra menu/click would definitely be a nice little improvement.

I understand the most recent version of IPS improved the ability to search for conversations.
However, on my communities a lot of members have conversations with a substantial amount of pages, and so being able to search inside of an individual conversation would make life far easier.
For example, you could search for a specific phrase and be taken straight to page 46 of the conversation where the phrase was used, rather than just to page 1 of the conversation.
Improved search functionality for individual conversations would be a huge plus for my community, and I'm sure others who heavily use the conversation feature.
    Many thanks.

Since the above application hasn't been updated since 2019, I wonder if IPS would consider adding some of these features into the core software? I imagine reactions are used by almost every community, so would be great to see their functionality expanded a little more. 🙂

Thanks. Certainly looks like it could be a good temporary solution, and I appreciate the developer's work on it.
Having said that, the comments suggest it's quite buggy and lacking a very key feature (the 'premium reactions' concept the first reviewer refers to), and the execution of it (e.g. giving users an error message rather than just not showing them the reaction) certainly isn't quite how I'd hoped it would be.
I realise I'm being very picky here (and perhaps a little wary about having to rely on yet another add-on that has mixed feedback and infrequent updates), but I still maintain that improved reaction control would be brilliant as a core feature in IPS. I think a lot of people would use it.

I'd love to see the reactions featured expanded to include:
Reactions based on permissions - only certain users can use certain reactions Different reputation point values for different reactions (not just +1 or -1, but +2 for example) Reaction reports  - flag how much user X has reacted to user Y or what percent of user X's reactions are from user Y (to prevent reaction 'spam'/abuse)  Just a few ideas that would help add an extra dimension to reactions in our community, which are a hugely popular feature. I realise for some sites these would be overkill, but I'm sure for others they could be a very welcome addition, especially as I imagine the first 2 wouldn't be too complex to add.
    Thanks a lot.
