Gauravk got a reaction from SeNioR- in Unread topic no longer in bold
Thanks Adriano for super quick help to save the embarrassment.
What Adriano can achieve single handedly within few hours should have been given as an option from IPS to toggle ON/OFF button for people who want millisecond accuracy on cached block (Switch OFF) instead killing the whole useful functionality for daily needs.
HUMBLE REQUEST TO IPS: Please don't remove existing features and functionality on every upgrade, it's very annoying, scary and embarrassing for community owners.

I've created a ticket on this for you, so we can get this looked into further

Can you provide a patch for this, I'm happy to pay even if cached data is wrong for few seconds but do eventually show the truth.

Gauravk reacted to Sonya* in How to restrict calendar comments to moderators only?
There is no built-in permissions for comments in IPS. Comments use the view/read permission of the item. In your case the event.

https://blog.cpanel.com/how-to-configure-a-cron-job/
You would write a script to do whatever action you want, and then tell the cron to run it on whatever schedule/frequency you want.
-
Gauravk reacted to Stuart Silvester in Which time zone IPS uses?
The task system isn't designed to run tasks at specific times, what you want to do isn't possible.
Instead, you may want to have a cron on your server run a file in your apps interface folder at a specific time instead.

Many thanks Marc and dev team, I'm waiting with my fingers crossed.

I have spoken to one of our developers who will see what is possible and respond at some point later today. As block items are subject to caching, this is something that needs thinking about

You should use a test install, do your testing there, and then make your changes in production when everything has been perfected and ready.

Gauravk got a reaction from ZLTRGO in PLEASE STOP jittery load of commerce product
How to either show or not to show production description under pricing text?
Prefer not to, so this jittery confuse behavior saves 1-5 sec of bad impression.
It's even worse on mobile devices with slower browser or internet.
Please help, thanks in advance.
Never knew I need to raise a "FEATURE" suggestion for this ILLOGICAL, BEHAVIOUR, BUG.

Yeah, I never really liked that design. Its set to truncate to 2 lines. The full product description is below everything in a separate section. You can hide it with

Gauravk got a reaction from SeNioR- in Meta description for /*/page/XX
Search Engine Optimization should be the top priority for IPB and every site owner. I have seen tons of valuable topic not showing in search due to this cause.
Usually speaking or suggesting anything here gets the gun pointed on your head, so I always silently reading and waiting.
Hope someone reading this either fix the core or offer some plugin or app to deal for time being - for any cost.
Forums "NOT NECESSARILY" will have supersonic content on page 1, it might be on page 6 or 12, then what happens....?

Gauravk got a reaction from Sonya* in Leave club - warning message
How do we create or setup (code edit, plugin etc.) to have an additional warning message pop-up while leaving club?
- Are you sure you wanna leave xxxx club?
-YES -- NO
Leave button is almost in scroll way that everyday we have 2 or 3 members accidently leaving club and then joining back. This resets their club joining date and if they don't realize then they cant post anything and raise a support ticket by assuming website isn't working or their account has some issue.
Hope its possible.
Thanks in advance.

Gauravk reacted to ptprog in Data storage choice - which one is better and why?
Ok, so you certainly have spare memory available on you server 😄
You should try Redis. If you have some analytics solution, you should be able to monitor the evolution of the performance on your site.

Gauravk reacted to ptprog in Data storage choice - which one is better and why?
I haven't looked in detail about how IPS uses cache (e.g. how expensive to compute are the values cached), but with the reduced number of options we have now, and assuming you have spare memory available, I expect Redis to be a safe bet.
IPS can achieve very high cache hit ratios. So, my expectation is that using cache will improve performance. Since now using cache requires using Redis for data storage, I would be surprised if any other data storage option was better. Again, I'm assuming you have spare memory in your server.
Also, as @Thomas P mentioned above, using Elasticsearch for search may be a better change to start with.
Out of curiosity, what is the current size of you DB?
-
Gauravk reacted to Thomas P in Data storage choice - which one is better and why?
There are various options to keep the DB small, in the context of server optimization using Redis for caching instead of MySQL and Elasticsearch instead of a MySQL search index helps. So if you don't use the caching method MySQL and for example not the MySQL search index, both keeps your database smaller.
