How about doing patch releases on a regular schedule, such as on the first Tuesday of each month? That way, people can predict and plan for the work that will be needed (which for patch releases, with no new features or breaking changes, should be pretty minimal), and we get a reasonable cadence of bug fixes.
Features should be released in minor releases (4.6 etc). Personally, I would be happy to see more frequent but smaller feature releases, say every 6 months with a couple of changes each time, as long as the scope of a release is fairly clear (ie. there are no breaks in a patch release like 4.5.5) and it doesn't affect the cadence of bug fixes (so we're not waiting 1.5mo and counting for bug fixes).

Good spot - that happens because on the invisible widget container above the main content. We’ll figure out a solution 🤞

It improves greatly content discovery (one advantage we have over social media). And now I can imagine the egos of our users scrambling to write a high quality comment that could be selectable with this distinction.
This is great, guys. Thanks!

It wasn't planned, but yea, I can probably next week. Right now this whole app includes dozens of changes for the topic page, will need to add some settings to make them optional 🙂

I would have thought that, in order to achieve that, we'd need to group or order those comments in some way. In a linear chronological view it would only be able to take you to one of them. Can IPS group top/highest rated comments in a reddit-esque style? If so, I agree it would be a good option for that use case.

SammyS reacted to DesignzShop in 4.5: User Interface Improvements
We really needed:
"Take me to the most popular comments" or
"Take me to the highest rated comments"
The reason why that's so important is because the most popular or highest rated comments // content by the community usually defines the best answers without the need to read through the entire topic to get to the most informational or informative answers of the topic. Not many people anymore want to read an entire thread to get to the best answer(s) provided by the community. This could be a game changer in forum software. The idea here is to promote the highest quality content and keep people on the site, not deter them because they have to read pages upon pages to find the best answer.
The way this is now is just moving around what we had, these options do not help in defining the most informative content for a user that wants to save themselves some time, it also doesn't reward people for giving the best answers nor does it persuade people to try and give a best answer. We're still forced to read content that may not even apply to the topic subject at hand.
Thanks

SammyS reacted to Davyc in 4.5: Club Pages
I don't like (never have liked) the overlay title and info over the image. Why can't it be on a bar above the menu and leave the image untarnished? Also, instead on clicking on the image to expand it, why not allow admins to choose between open and closed. Not everyone knows that clicking the image will expand it.
Also, get rid of the overlays in the profile pages - I think they look chunky and horrible. Aesthetics plays a very important part of first impressions and this method looks like an afterthought.
Other than that everything else is great 😊

I use the built in IPS similar content block which is driven by tags and I also use a secondary block for similar topics based on content by @A Zayed which works out well for topics that don't have tags and ads more content to the page for readers and SEO.

All new features are nothing worth as long as they won't kill facebook, twitter, instagram and os on!

This is something we want to do. It won't make it for 4.4, but keep watching this space. (Not literally, nothing is going to happen in this specific space).

SammyS reacted to Rikki in 4.4: Turbo charging loading speeds
Just to note, we decided to go ahead and support lazy loading for external embeds like YouTube too for 4.4. Most embeds (Facebook, Twitter etc.) already lazy loaded because they routed through a local URL, but external embeds will also lazy load now. You're welcome, @Mr 13 🙂
