Michael.J reacted to Dreadknux in Stop Deprecating Skinsets
Now I understand that changes have to be made to the core codebase whenever a new version of IPB is written. But in the last couple of updates (3.0.3 and now 3.0.4) I have had skins that I have developed during the 3.0.1 era break completely on me, because of deprecated skin code and a complete disregard of the skin's CSS on browsers (possibly as a result of deprecated skin code). Now, as I have worked very hard on my unique themes and they are vastly different from the IPB default skin, simply implementing the Skin Differences published is easier said than done, nor should I expect to constantly update my skins in this manner.

I was led to believe that when 3.0.0 was released, that custom skins could be created without fear of them breaking in future releases. This has turned out to be a false belief. Skins made the second a brand new version is released should be supported 100% until the very end of that version's life cycle. If nothing else, I would expect the money I paid for this software (and services) to reflect this, considering I have no time in my life now to micro-manage my skins whenever an incremental update comes out.

IPS, figure out where you want to be with your skin design and stick to it, please! Stop changing your mind every twenty seconds and invalidating my custom skins. I would like some confirmation that this issue will not occur again in future updates, otherwise I might as well just not make skins for my forums again (what would be the point?).

    Regards,
    Svend Joscelyne.

We really need to move most of that into a class. I'll go through and make the relevant functions public.

So assuming your argument all new users should be given faster support then old users. Yeah, that seems fair... :(

I think your being ignorant and not reading the replies that everyone has given, including the Staff themselves.

You know, 14 hours is far too long to just let a ticket go without even bothering to respond to it.
Of course, during that time, I was able to find and handle the issue myself, but if this is the typical 'response time', I'll find somewhere else to take my business.

I'm not an impatient guy, 4-5 hours is reasonable, at least as long as things are submitted during business hours (which this was), but 14 hours is pushing it.
Even better? A second reply took 45 minutes or less. Kinda ironic.

The moral of the story? DON'T keep your customer waiting. If they open a ticket, they deserve a non automated reply, same business day, urgent or not.

Just wanted to say that since I joined I noticed IPB has really improved and offered a lot of new features that I wanted and others that I'm still trying. You put good software with a really helpful community and it turns out to be a really good experience. Thanks IPS

    P.S.
I really wish we could convert to community suite at any point

Understand that from our perspective you are not our customer - the account owner is. We have no way of knowing if/who/when you bought that license from. All we know is the data that is in our client system and if it has the other person's name and email then that is who we must speak to.

Ok, so I purchased a license off of ize nearly 2 years ago, and all was well and good, until 2 days ago i try to login to my other account, display name, .Shawn, and find out it wont let me log in, so i try to recover my password, and it tells me there's no account in the system using that email address, so i find this a little fishy, so i contact support, and they tell me that the original owner has control of the account and that there,s no way to prove the account is mine, altho i have renewed it 2 times with my credit card, i gave them that info, gave them my email address that it used to be tied to, and pointed out the face that this guys name is scott i believe and the display name is .Shawn, i find this absolutely absurd that customer service, nor debbie will do anything for me. but really, what would they care, losing one customer wont hurt their pockets any..just my rant on the customer service here.

Please don't jump to conclusions that IPB itself was hacked. :) There are dozens of possibilities. If the owner believes it was IPB itself that was compromised, they are certainly free to submit a ticket and we will assist them to the best of our ability in tracking down how the hacker got in and what damage was done exactly.

We will explore the possibility of extending the hold time for those interested. We've found most prefer to leave a message with the operator. On typical days, this often works out best for everyone as many issues beyond "how do I" cannot be resolved while you wait on the telephone anyway. Unfortunately, we're experiencing an incredibly high volume of support requests as people adjust to the new releases. I'm sorry you had to wait longer than usual, but glad your issue was resolved.

    Thank you for the feedback.

Michael.J reacted to Michael in Show which template groups have modified templates
In IP.Board 2.x, on the page where we manage our skin templates, you could easily tell which skin group had one or more modified skin templates in it as the little icon beside it would be red. This functionality was removed in 3.x. I found this to be helpful for a number of reasons, and would like to see it return.

First, if an upgrade to the forum software modifies some skin templates, the upgrade script won't touch your modified skin template groups, and you'll have to patch those manually. When we look at a difference report, we used to be able to quickly see whether or not any of the templates changed in this new version needed this manual patching; if you could see that only 3 of your skin's template groups had been modified it made the job of patching a whole lot quicker. Secondly, it can be kind of an annoyance on a development board where you do things like test out code snippets. Again, when you upgrade that board, any modified templates you had won't get updated, so you may run into issues where you just fiddled with a bit of code, forgot to revert it, and now you have some code for the page that is out of whack.

Michael.J reacted to Neosoph in IPS makes me all warm and fuzzy inside
I've been around here for a very long time. I've been watching IPS evolve as a company for even longer.

I have to say I am very impressed with the way things have turned out over the years. You guys make occasional mistakes, but they are honest mistakes and you resolve them quickly. You don't take shortcuts and you have the good practice to be fair and polite to your customers no matter what. You have shown yourselves to be the kind of company I will stand behind.

Matt & Charles (and the rest of the contributing staff) you guys have made something really great here. I know sometimes managing a business can be demanding and stressful. I also know that it's alot easier to manage if you know what you are doing matters to others. Well, I'm telling you your software has made life easier for myself and many others, it matters to us!

No one knows what the future holds, but I can guarantee if you keep to your honest business practices customers like myself won't let anything happen to IPS. Not even if the whole world falls to this economic recession.

    Sincerely,
    Aaron

Michael.J reacted to TrixieTang in Quick PM should have a "Use Full Editor" link
Currently if you go to someone's profile and try to send them a PM, if you decide you need all the editor options you don't have them, and there isn't a way to get to them short of copying what you typed so far, going to your messenger, typing in the name of the member, and pasting what you had written...

There really needs to be a link on the "Quick PM" popup like their is on the fast reply, "Use Full Editor" which keeps what you'd written, who you're sending it to, and takes you to your messenger to send a PM with access to all the editor options.
