If you are aware of unauthorized distribution or use of IPS products, report it by using this form.

Yeah! How dare IPS try to make a little money from their product? Now you can go pay $40 per annum with "other" forum software, as well as extra to upgrade to new releases like 4.0.

That old running thread on the Preview forum had quite a few posts in agreement with what I (and others) wrote, and my first post in that thread was quite upvoted. I would hazard a guess that the majority of people that regularly use the "View New Posts" function on 2.3.6 see the new "View New Content" results as a downgrade.

    Some.

Yes, please do make the results tabular. Overall you guys have done a great job with 3.0, I'm quite confident that you are up to the challenge of properly remedying this issue. This is really the only major sticking point I have with 3.0 and it's a big one (the other being new topic markers, which is somewhat related).

It wasn't broken to begin with and did not need fixing at all.

    1) Bring back the columnar format. It's easy to parse, and your eyes know right where to go for each bit of information once you're familiar with the format. The new format uses two "rows" of information for each "new" result and there is plenty of wasted white space. In this particular instance, adding white space for the sake of making the results appear "cleaner" simply doesn't work in my opinion. This goes against the grain "form follows function".

    2) The topic title links to the first new post in the thread. Previously, the topic title linked to the first post in the thread and you used the "New Post" icon to go to the first new post. Now there is no way to go to the first post, which is useful if you want to catch up on a thread you haven't viewed in a while (among other reasons). This is completely inconsistent with how the title link works when viewing the topic list in a forum (which itself isn't consistent when viewing the forum index!!)

    3) Number of "Views" was removed. Useful to see threads that are particularly active.

    4) "Topic Starter" was removed. This is nice information to have, as you may be more interested in threads started by particular users than others. As a forum admin, this is also useful when you want to keep an eye on threads started by particular users (for instance, someone who may be a trouble starter).

    5) You can no longer click on the number of "Replies" to get a popup showing the replies in a thread.

    6) No attachments icon so you can see threads with attachments in them. This also includes the accompanying link that would give you a popup showing all the attachments (which I have used many times).

    7) No means to get to the "Last Post". Currently in 2.3.6, the "Last post by" text links to the last post in the thread. Useful if you want to jump right to the end of a thread.

    8) Page links were removed for threads spanning multiple pages. This includes the "Jump to page" link shown before the page links.

    9) The "Get active topics for:" dropdown at the bottom of the "View New Post" results is gone. Functionality removed.

As you can see, even with the improvements you've made, there's still quite a bit missing from the original "View New Posts" results. Much of this functionality exists when viewing the topics in a forum. Link to first post in thread, topic starter, attachment link, replies link, link to last post, and number of views are all present, in a nice, columnar format. But the "View New Posts" results as it exists in 2.3, which is nearly identical in appearance, contains too much information? What?

Please bring back the functionality and appearance of the 2.3.6 "View New Posts" results.

Yeah it seem the majority of users are not happy with 'View New Content' design.

Hopefully the developers/designer will listen our feedback seriously.

Sorry but I have to say, it's horrific.

The view new posts feature on IPB2 is excellent, is used regularly on my forum for members to easilys view the latest posts in all forums. There is just something wrong, there is less info, but it's not easy on the eye, at all.

I assume this is how it's going to be as we've reached this stage.

Because it's easier to have one than to put hard-coded exceptions all over the place, and because, likely to be used or not, it gives admins full control over permissions, even to the extent of hiding something from themselves should they really want to.

Yes, we added that in. I wrote a function called IPSLib::wait( $seconds ). We felt that life was moving too fast and wanted to slow it down a bit. We think that huge delays in serving up webpages will be a popular feature. Even Google will do the same one day. Just imagine, having to wait for 5 seconds for your search results. I know, it's a crazy concept but I think many will appreciate it.

We suggest you think about a loved one or task to do in that 5 seconds. Maybe take a peek out of the nearest window. Your choice, really. We're giving you the gift of time, it's up to you how you spend it.

Brett B reacted to TSP in IPB 3.X Suggestion - Include the "punishment" in warn log
Hello, I find it a bit weird that when viewing the warn log you can't see for how long the user was suspended etc. This means that it needs to be written into the warn reason field, something you could easily forget. So I think that in addition to the information about whether you increased, decreased, did not change or custom changed warn level, there should be information about the "punishment" (suspension, all posts got unapproved/approved, ban etc).

Brett B reacted to Michael in IPB 3.X suggestion - add delete all posts to the warn panel
Deleting all posts is a fairly resource intensive action, particularly if the member has made a lot of posts. For each post you delete, you may need to rebuild the topic it was in (in case that post was the first or last post in the topic), and then you need to rebuild all forum data for all forums they posted in (so that the number of topics and posts in each is accurate), and then you need to rebuild the forum stats (so the total number of posts is accurate). When you delete all members' posts from the ACP, it does it in cycles of 50 posts, and redirects to a new page automatically where it does the next 50. You'd have to program something into the warn panel to be able to replicate this, as deleting all posts from someone who made 5,000 posts on the forums could not be done all in one shot.

I would say that for the frequency of how often most folks need to do this, and this is just going off my experience here, it's enough that an Admin can do this option in the ACP as it comes up. Whenever I have needed to delete all posts from one member, I wasn't doing it when I was just warning them, I was doing it when I was banning them via the ACP, where I would have the ability to delete all of their posts right there anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Brett B reacted to teraßyte in CSS support for Hooks
Hooks already support templates but what about CSS files?

Adding CSS files manually in the hook package won't add them in DB and so you can't edit those files from ACP using the built-in editor, and using an FTP program to edit them defeats the purpose of the new IPB3 editor.

I just re-read the Skinning competition thread, It says that the winning skin will sit along side the IPB3 download in the client area. I could have sworn I read at one point it was going to be shipped with IPB3 as a secondary skin?

Wonder if it will be extended again due to popular demand :P :)

RC and BETA's are sorta like Twinkies, We know we shouldn't eat them, but we do then get fat and think, well it was a short enjoyment and now I need to work my butt of to loose weight. Maybe a bad example, but either way we laugh we cry we smash keyboards (or at least I do) and it just brings us closer as a community don't you think? Ahh a tear to my eye.

Either way I love IPB, I could never go back to PHPBB *shudders* New Fanboy here for sure :D

Speaking of bugs, has anyone noticed the pip images are missing on this board?
