  1. We are talking about non IPB parts of our site. Even if IPB allowed the source code out to us, I'd now have to make custom edits to the code to add the others parts of the site and then maintain the code over time. This costs money and time and is in addition to having to maintain both the mobile web and desktop version. Assuming at best the app had equal monetization then this is a net loss in income. Do you monetize your site and if so I'm curious on your take? To me if a feature leads to increased cost / decreased monetization overall, then I'm not quick to want to us it. I'm running a business after all.
  2. How on earth do you monetize this nearly as much as a website? Also, many sites have far more features to them then the forums. Having an app for one segment of the site and not others fractures the experience of the site. Fwiw I get email alerts and they pop up just like push notifications on my phone. No major delta imo. That can't be the only reason. You can get push notifications via 3rd party services if that was all it was.
  3. I'm curious. Compared to the mobile version on the web, what advantage does it carry for you?
  4. Seems just like the mobile site. Just worse. At least on Android it seems to have tons of bugs too. I'm sure a lot of hard work has gone into it, but what's the point of the app versus the mobile website experience? It seems to be basically the same things but now with what I assume will be rigid formatting (skin) experience that doesn't allow any customization. This makes many of our sites incomplete on the app. It also precludes other non IPB areas of our site which does who knows what to our usage. With no ability to monetize effectively (this is a business for me... ad revenue matters) and perhaps a negative effect to website traffic and SEO/rankings as a result, I for one will stick with the current responsive design and disable access to the app. My two cents. I'm truly not trying to rain on anyone's parade. It just doesn't work for me.
  5. Whatever the new view is that shows the first paragraph of each post is super slow to load. I can imagine it would be horrible in production for users. Hopefully this can be sped up. Check this forum as an example.
  6. My biggest fear with an app (and why I won't offer it to my users) is as follows: - it breaks the site wide experience since I have many elements of our site beyond the forums. I want them to have the full experience. Not just chat. If they used the app they would probably not use the mobile site much (which has tons of other content) and when they did click on links to those areas of the site it would be a jarring experience swapping to the browser and back. - there is no way to monetize the app well. Def not as well as the web. My expectation is that I'll stick with the mobile responsive view of the site which works just fine.
  7. Yes please make this prominent! It is a HUUUUUGE feature!
  8. Why don't people just use Google Ad Manager for this? Its the defacto standard. Use AdSense as a fall back (even better just use AdSense through Admanager). Direct deals are easy that way.
  9. Does the current version of IPB support MySQL 8.0.x? Thanks!
  10. Many/most of my members have valuable information in their signatures but on mobile most sites default to it being off (they are way too long on that view). This leads to issues where important information isn't visible or when a member says "see / check my signature for more info" people can't. What about a small button to just expand signatures on mobile but keep them collapsed by default? This seems like the best compromise to maintain visual clutter on mobile but allow them to be viewed as needed (easily) right in the thread.
  11. Seems like their server could get bombed if someone posted rapidly. Maybe a way to throttle emails to once every xx mins would be useful.
  12. Does this examine only the first post or do replies add up? Sometimes post 1 is thin but the follow up posts are robust.
  13. This is a GREAT idea. I've seen it on other sites. Heck even a landing page with helpful information or a youtube video would be nice.
  14. Exactly. Our community's are supported by advertising which comes from traffic which comes from Google search engine rankings. Like it or not.
  15. While your competitors add AMP support and jump ahead of you in rankings, they will cheer your defiance all the way to page 2 or 3 of Google's search results.
  16. Happened on my site. I'll submit a ticket!
  17. FWIW, I noticed that bulk mail images are broken. Site logo and other items. Seems like a bug.
  18. I think IPB should migrate to this now since it's a standard versus custom. Custom requires in-house support of the code which alone is a decent reason to swap over. It also requires additional JavaScript overhead that is no longer required.
  19. Everything is posted in my first reply is set up once and then it runs automated. The only thing manual is if you have direct sales that you manage via DFP (Admanager). I would always use Admanager up front since you will end up there if you scale. AdSense is integrated. You can set it up to keep your reporting in AdSense.
