AtariAge got a reaction from Fórum Jurídico in IPB 3.1.0 features
I had to add this to 2.3.6 and I added the same thing to my 3.0.2 forum two days ago. I have a "My Posts" link on my forum index that returns all threads (well, it's limited to 1,000) that you have participated in. I still have to tweak it a bit, but it works. I converted to IPB from phpBB, so my users were pretty unhappy that IP.Board was missing this feature. When I upgraded to 3.0.2 I can't tell you how many people asked why that feature was missing. I had to scramble to add it back.

Sure would be nice to see this as a stock feature since Invision is already so close. You can view all your posts and see all the threads you've started, but not all the threads you've participated in.

I will submit this mod once I've had a little more time to work on it.

It's probably easier to just have password enforcement options the admin can set than getting into user-level options. We can look into this for a future version.

    Hello,

I searched in my admin panel, but couldn't find this feature; I was wondering if you can add the option to disallow potential members to signup using the same password as their username (username=password)? This is a big security issue with forums at the moment as you could just extract the member names and bruteforce the forum. The current "login security system" does not block this even if you dont use proxy servers, due to the fact that you are targeting seperate member accounts instead of the same member account.

I know that it is plain stupid to use the same username as your password, but there are just many people out there who still prefer to do that to remember their password easily.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Thank you.

I agree that the search function on IPB is severely lacking. As I was a Dragonfly CMS user for years, which used a version of phpBB, I thought that phpBB's search function was lacking too but I think it was still a bit better than IPB's. I too will use Google to search the forums here and on my own site before I'll use the built in search function here as the results are at times, worthless.

I love the rest of the software and functionality, it's been a very pleasant experience, search just needs some serious help.

    Just my 2 cents...

In some countries, offering users the ability to cancel their accounts (thereby deleting all of user's data and content) is becoming a legal requirement. It would be good if you explored the possibility of adding this feature to the "My Settings" section; with the necessary "Are you sure you want to cancel your account? This action is irreversible" prompts and help file informative entry, that is.

These are great suggestions, and I'm running into some of these issues myself. Especially trying to figure out which reports have new comments I haven't read yet, as well as which reports I haven't even looked at. I like the idea of creating a special hidden forum, rather than duplicating all the work of essentially creating a topic view. It's bad enough having to skin each of these topic-like views so they look like a normal topic-view. :)

Yes, please, also make it easier to restore posts/topics that have been deleted. A "Restore" button would be absolutely freaking terrific. :D

    Hi Guys,

Firstly, let me say that I am SERIOUSLY impressed with your software. I just moved from Vbulletin about 2 weeks ago.

However, there are a few things that's, to me at least, missing, or could be improved a bit.

Report Center: Allow some moderation functions in this please. In fact, make it act like a hidden forum? Put up some sort of unread feature, so that I can see which reported items I have read, and which contains unread posts by another moderator. Perhaps allow Admins to delete posts in there, edit posts, etc? If it acts like a forum, then all of these can be possible. Allow +/- reps as well, as I often want to thank a mod for doing something, which isn't possibly at the moment. Also, the "1 Active Reports" thing in the header should also have "10 Active Reports (4 Unread)" there, so that you can quickly and easily see who did what. Lastly, a search feature, please. if you later want to find something in there, it's going to be nearly impossible. Also perhaps some prune function? Perhaps move reports to your trash can when deleting? Migration changes - soft deleted posts in Vbulletin must rather be moved to a trash can, in stead of unapproved. I currently have 1100 posts that's got to be deleted, since it was soft deleted on Vbulletin, and is now moderated posts in IPB. The problem is that there's no "select all" option, like with moderated topics, so you literally have to enter each thread with moderated posts in it, click on the check boxes of the individual posts, and then delete them. This is a HUGE schlepp. I've already cleared about 5000 posts this way, and can I say that I seriously have better things to do with the past 4 days than just deleting posts. Trash Can: Have some kind of link to the topic where this was deleted from, please? In my setup, I really need to be able to see this, as I like to be involved in every decision my mods make.
That's me for now, but thanks again for a great piece of software, and I hope some of these makes it into a future release :)

Are the reports they can't see from forums they actually have moderator privileges to? I believe those permissions do get checked when determining which reports to show.

AtariAge got a reaction from NiftyWolfie in Report Center permissions
Is there any way to specify which groups can delete reports in the Report Center? I'd like to make it so that only the Admin group can actually delete reports, as I always want to see reports before they are nuked. Unfortunately, sometimes moderators delete reports before I'm able to look at them. I just asked them not to do that, but that's not infallible. If there isn't already a setting for this, could one possibly be added?

    Thanks,

If we added a way for users to select which forums show up in the view new posts feed, would that be a sufficient solution? That's something that I think a lot more users would find useful, but should also address your primary concern?

I would love you forever if you did this. I have one particular forum on my board that 90% of my users have no interest in, so I've excluded it from New Content, but typically the 10% are up in arms.

AtariAge got a reaction from Brett B in Suggeston: Way to jump to "Full Editor" for PM popup
Would it be possible to add a button to the PM popup that takes you to the "Full Editor"? I needed to send someone a file via PM, so initially I clicked on the "Send PM" icon under their name in a topic. That brings up the popup, of course. So I cancel, go to the user's profile and then click that same button. Same thing. Arrgh! So I then had to go into the messenger, copy their username and then start a message that way. It would have been much easier if there was a "Use Full Editor" or some similar button on the PM popup (similar to what you see when editing a post).

    Thanks,

AtariAge reacted to bfarber in 3.0.2 is way slower than 2.3.5
One more thing to add, though I'm not sure it'll help you any. As technology progresses, you'll find you simply need more resources to stay up to date. It's how computers and software work, I'm afraid.

2.0 uses more resources than 1.3
2.1 uses more resources than 2.0
2.3 uses more resources than 2.1
3.0 uses more resources than 2.3

Windows ME used more resources than Windows 98
Windows 2000 used more resources than NT/ME/98
Windows XP uses more resources than Win2K
Windows Vista uses more resources than Windows XP

Unfortunately you simply can't progress and add all the gee-whiz bells and whistles everyone wants without some sort of tradeoff in resource usage. I'm positive we could make IPB 3 just as efficient as IPB 2.3.....if we were working with the exact same feature set. i.e. get rid of friendly urls, get rid of the report center, get rid of personal conversations, get rid of the new skin. But then we'd be on 2.3, wouldn't we?

Something that vB has that IPB doesn't.. "Smart" marking of read topics. If you read a topic that has new posts but you don't read the last page of the topic, then it's still marked as unread (because really, you have unread posts in that topic). If you happen to start reading the topic (say the first of 5 pages) and your first unread marker is in page 3, then it'll take you to that first unread post on page 3. If you go to page 3 and then look at the topic list again, I believe it'll take you to the first post on page 4 (since you didn't look at it or the last page yet). Basically only marks all the posts read that you might have actually read, instead of the entire topic.

I like the new look in IPB3 especially for code formatting it is very helpful, see snapshot below:

Unfortunately when it comes to printing a topic the formatting goes awry:

It would be nice if the print feature could retain some of the original formatting because all modern printers should be able to handle this. It is now possible to print straight to PDF so retaining the formatting would be very advantageous...

The new Lo-fi version of IPB is much better than the old one. It's great that we can now log in and post messages.

But since we can log in, it makes sense that there should be a way to view new posts as well so we can catch up on things directly instead of browsing through the whole forum.

This isn't something likely we'd endeavor to accommodate. I'd recommend looking into a new hosting plan/host in reality. Eventually, you can simply outgrow a hosting plan.
