    Right.

First of all I'm following this thread as it's definitely of interest to me

I'm really intrigued by the argument being put forward for only showing ads to guests in order to get the cost per click revenue up vs the loss of showing the ads to members all day every day?

Is that really something that's proven to be the most effective way to go?

. Yes, a plugin might make this all an easier process. BTW, love newbie LAC's plugins, though I don't have that particular one installed. I cannot stress enough the value of having his Ad After X Posts plug-in. Allows you to place ads anywhere you choose on the pages with posts. Makes a massive difference in ad revenue relative to whatever you make before that. With 1000+ concurrent users....dayum...that would be nice. I'm at 100-200 concurrent depending on the season.

I took a look around your forum the other day and that's one aggressive forum you have!

Ads everywhere and cutting off guests after so many views etc - does that really work or is it really stumping your growth?

I see these topics probably several times a week.
They wrote that they strive for the best performance, but no system is without flaws and are not able to draw those 100% compliance.

Even on tests, google pages are not perfect.

Im talking about the new change from Google though

Google just increased their requirements. Now serving JS on pages that it isn't needed is hurting speed scores badly. Test again and you will see this. I was scoring 80 on mobile, and 97 on desktop, until a few days ago when this new requirement came out. Now I score ~48. I'm trying to find out now if I can have a plugin made to serve only JS that is needed per page/module.

You may want to reach out to @Adlago who has helped me greatly to optimize my site. If I get a plugin made for this I'll let you know.

    Well that's just terrible news

Are Invision aware of this and building it into the update?

Wow just scored 29 on my test

That's the lowest I've ever scored by miles

It's no different at all from having a business of any other kind so social presence is critical

    • Twitter - set up a twitter account for your forum  and auto-tweet out with every new topic (including hashtags)
    • Facebook - set up FB page for your forum and auto-post with every new topic or use the promote option
    • Instagram - set up Instagram  and post a photo every night at 5pm about your forum
    • Facebook groups - set up a facebook group and auto post into it from your forum

Join FB groups that are about your forum and share interesting/relevant topics from your forum in them

Since this thread is about Twitter video, I'll ask this question in here.

Some members on my board say that Twitter videos won't play for them (on the board). Has anyone else had issues with embedded twitter videos not playing?

I'm just starting to get complaints about that on my site

  6. Strange one

I just installed a new theme (a dark mode one)

On my standard theme advertisements show just fine

When I switch theme to the new dark theme no advertisements show at all.

The install for the dark theme was just an XML file to change the CSS colours

Any ideas why the advertisements features just wouldn't show on a new theme if all that's changed is the CSS/colours?

I think that's just your personal preference for your personal website.

It would have zero benefits for me, and would put my users off.

My users prefer to go straight into the forums to read the latest posts.

Any new users end up the same place and immediately get to grips with the site

You are wrong, when a new user enters your site it does so through the results of their search on Google, Bing, etc.
When this happens, the user is directly redirected to the topic of their interest, in this action the user has not seen the home page.
But what if the user decided to go to the Home Page? (Most users usually go to the Home Page to know more.)
In this case the user will find all the necessary information to better understand the platform, thus improving his experience on the site.

    Regards!

I only use Forums (I don't use pages etc)

The user lands on the home page of my website and immediately sees everything they need to

Adding another step into this process and the user would log off

There's absolutely no need whatsoever for another random page for them to see before they get to what they've come for

My home page is my forum index. I'm happy with that. To put another page in the way of it would be ridiculous

I released it to the members last night, even with the few bits remaining and they all loved it.

Not being funny but if I can bodge something together in a day and half, the developers shouldn't have too many problems.

This looks fantastic - I'm struggling to recreate this on my forum but would really like to.

Is there a dummies guide to doing this somewhere?

I bought that plugin and it's awesome.

And if I don't want everyone to see the featured image in the post, I just set the image size to 1x1 pixel and voila it disappears (mostly).

How do you intervene to do that?

E.g. if a member posts a new topic with an image in the thread, how do you spot that you don't want that image and then intervene?

(my site is fast moving so I probably wouldn't spot them all)

All emails are responsive, however sometimes larger images can cause the text to display small.

    Thank you

I raised a support ticket which has been escalated as both my forums emails are not responsive so something's gone wrong somewhere!

While your competitors add AMP support and jump ahead of you in rankings, they will cheer your defiance all the way to page 2 or 3 of Google's search results.

    This is true

    1) When the task runs, if there is any content in areas you follow that is "new" (you haven't read it), you should get an email with a summary of that content.

    2) Digests are always sent via email. The setting you referenced is your default option when you automatically follow content you are posting.

    3) No question here

    4) This is a change for 4.5 which we applied to our community early to facilitate mobile push notifications. In other words, your list will look like this when you upgrade to 4.5.

Are digest emails supposed to be responsive in format?

Mine aren't and it's driving me crazy as they're unreadable

  14. My forums (I have two) send out daily digest emails and bulk emails

Both aren't responsive though, so if someone posted a large image on the forums it sends out this image in the daily emails or bulk emails and it stretches beyond the readable screen on desktop

On email the image is responsive but because it's such a large email it then shrinks all the text down to a totally unreadable size?

Is there a way to set forum emails to go out in a responsive sizing?
