Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Square Wheels Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I've been having a lot of issues with my site. I'd like to do a clean install and import my members and posts. I don't see an IPS --> IPS importer, can this be done? I do NOT want to simply copy the database and files over, I fear there is something corrupt there somewhere. Thanks
Adriano Faria Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 You can export your memvers on ACP but you will need to make a backup from your content to restore on new install.

That won't work. I only have a few hundred members, but 300,000 posts and 6GB of pics in posts. This is such a mess, and I am so frustrated.
AndyF Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Although I've not tried this with IPS4 (it will work with IPB3x) you might be able to use the converter to 'import' it. To do this start with a new empty community install. Do not install any modifications or any applications that are not official. By this I mean if the 'original' had Gallery then install it but don't at this stage install any third party themes or plugins. Install the converter app if not already and attempt to 'import' the other IPS4 database and uploaded files. They must be on the same server usually (ideally same user account, just in a different directory)
Square Wheels Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 Thanks @AndyF, I will give that a try.
Dean_ Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 @Square Wheels if you manage to get this to work, would you mind typing a small tutorial? And let us know of any issues you come across? I'm interested in doing this too. Want a fresh install with only, members, messages, topics/posts.

As I say I've not tried this with IPS4, with 3x you can import IPB to IPB for instance. The "source data" does not have to be a competitors product it will accept IPB as the source data. Useful for merging two boards together sometimes. There will be a bit of cleanup to do afterwards however as with any import of this nature.

Bear in mind you'd be importing your data to an 'empty' community so you'd have to adjust your settings as required, things like Captcha Type / posting options. It should import most group settings OK though I'd expect but typically (as with any import) it would be worth the few minutes examining them to check they are as you'd expect. As I say I've not tried this with IPS4, I'm assuming it will accept an IPS4 database as a 'source' the same way the 3x converter will accept IPBoard (or Gallery/Blog etc) as a 'source'
Jim M Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Please bear in mind that this action, while it may work, is not supported so you're taking your data into your own hands. As always, create full backups!

As always, create full backups! Thanks, but the current install I have with the issues I am having also isn't supported. I need to do something. The software is designed to allow plugins. I add plugins, the software doesn't work. Clearly I have a unique issue with my install that can't be fixed. I'm not sure what else to do.
Zen Geek Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I'm interested in the outcome. Got years and years of junk built up, that simple apps and plugin aren't functioning like they should. Starting with a clean install - import settings, users, posts, and all their related tables. This should be "easy" - but nothing is ever easy.
Square Wheels Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Well, I installed this and now I have no idea what to do. I don't see how I import IPS to IPS. Any help is appreciated as my site is down while I attempt to import. @AndyF or @Jim M, if you're available, any suggestions? Thanks

Thanks It does not appear to be listed (IPS as a 'source') . I'd as my post above not tried this as I say. hmm, I'd assumed that it would be as you can use the 3x one to 'merge' boards by importing 3x to 3x...
Square Wheels Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 1 minute ago, Jim M said: Yes, I moved the "old" site ti a different folder and installed a new copy of the software into a new database. I installed the converted I linked above but these are the only options I see to convert from: XenForo (1.x) vBulletin (3.x/4.x) yBB 1.8.x phpBB 3.1 vBulletin (5.x) PunBB 1.x WordPress (4.x) Crap, so I'm stuck then? I know I can simply go back to the broken site I have, but it is getting harder and harder to manage that site. I get a lot of errors and support won't / can't help. Any other thoughts? ------------------ Oops, post are being merged, I forgot you have that turned on here (and how much I dislike that feature).
xtech Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Try to convert to another software (free) such as PHPbb or mybb, and then convert back again to ips.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I looked at those two and I don't see an importer. I posted asking if they have one. I'll try Simple Machines too.
Square Wheels Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 IPS is out, no converter. I just tried MyBB, kinda worked, but not well enough to be used. Polls, avatars and attachments didn't import - this is huge, I have over 6GB of attachments.. Plus the smilies seem broken. Example: I'm still stuck with a broken site that I can't get fixed. I can't even move it to a competitor, even if I wanted. This is aggravating.
