Landal Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Hi All! Do whether you wish open outdated version of IP Board - 1.3.1 under a license GNU LGPL? I think it is a Great Idea! And a very good contribution to the development of open source software!
Alex K. Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 IP.Board 1.3 is so outdated that it's not really worth working with anymore. Newer open-source forums are far better.
DoorMadeEasy Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Phpbb and mybb and smf is much more better
Alex K. Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 ^ Only compared to IPB 1.3 and earlier versions of 2.x. ;) Personally, I'd still rather use IPB 2.3.x than the newer versions of most free forums.
Management Matt Posted September 4, 2011 Management Posted September 4, 2011 That's not something that we're going to do. :)
Axel Wers Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Maybe PHP 5.x and MySQL 5.x incompatibility?
Ziv Grosu Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Landal, purchasing of a new board will be the best choice for ya. You can choose whether if vBulletin or IP.Board but I would recommend you to use IPB 3.2.2 for your community. Its worth the money and everything goes simpler.. As the nice people said above; IPB 1.3 is outdated and is written in history, IPB 3.2.2 and vB 4 don't look back even if there are so many boards that are recommended for you if you are looking for a free community. myBB, punBB, phpBB3, etc.
Andrej Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Why not? Because it is so old and outdated. Why do you want 1.3 at all?!
Mat B Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Why not? Aren't there enough open source security vulnerabilities in the world?
Misi Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Why not? :sad:And a very good contribution to the development of open source software! IPB competing against IPB ? Who would buy the paid version?
DoorMadeEasy Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Try to go to simple machine forum it is free and more feature then ip1.3
.time Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Try to go to simple machine forum it is free and more feature then ip1.3 MyBB > SMF. I don't think IPB 1.3 would even run on a modern server...
Nevo Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 The problem with running 1.3 is it requires outdated versions of mysql and php. A server would only be able to host 1.3 OR 2.x, 3.x. I think that if IPS had spare time, they could rewrite Invision power board based on their 1.3 within the new server environment and release it as another product. I think that that will help solve the real reason why most came to invision power in the first place since we all loved 1.3 and its simplicity. At the end of the day, i still use 2.3, 3.1, and now have 3.2. If IPS did consider this, i would be one of the people who'd buy another license for 1.3 since i enjoyed how simple it used to be.... if you compare to the 3rd gen versions.
Jυra Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I'd recommend PunBB or the sorta forked version FluxBB. FluxBB has faster development, though. IPB is worth it the price.
Landal Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 The old 1.3 version of the IP Board will never be competitive new IP Board. And the older version of IP Board will not buy because there are many new, fast, and open internet forums: phpBB, myBB, SMF, PunBB and others.
Andrej Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 The old 1.3 version of the IP Board will never be competitive new IP Board. (Whoops, liked wrong post) Well you understand that Matt have said a big bold no, so I don't know what you want.
Landal Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 OK! Thank you all! I will use the latest version of IP Board + H!
