Claudia999 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 My wishes for 2011 (from IPS) are: IP.Content with a field type "rating" (for reviews / rating) and [url=" fields per category Rewritten calendar with [url=" handling of recurring events and - perhaps - event management Better [url=" Groups feature Possibility for quizzes :) What would you wish?
ørret Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I hope they make a "News application" or completely re-do blog so it can be used as a fully news application as well as blog.
3DKiwi Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Better attachment options for images. Should be able to set maximum res and file size for image attachments. Back office attachment management needs improving. Currently to delete attachments older than a certain date you have to do a search on them and manually select each one and delete a page full at a time. Pain the butt if you have thousands of attachments to delete. Improved VNC. I want to be able to click on the dropdown and select "view my recent posts" and "view my recent topics". Another one that would be useful is view my topics that have a new reply. Better member management. For example when a member is banned all they get is a "you are not permitted to view the board". They should be able to see a ban reason. There's other things as well regarding member management. Here's another. If you delete a member and that member has gallery albums, the album isn't deleted. You should get a pop up asking whether you want their album and images deleted. Currently you have browse through all of the albums looking for an album with no member name. You then delete the album manually. Tidy up the forum index page to remove empty spaces. Have options on where profile photos are used and where avatars are used. In my opinion we're going backwards with the way the mini profile photos are used. In almost all cases I would prefer an avatar. The only time I want to see a Profile photo is when I click on someone's profile. Better new registration vetting e.g. options to sound alarm bells when same IP address used to register new accounts. The couple of mods like MUDD should be built in. An IPS written awards system with lots of options. One thing that many successful forums do is to give members awards. The 3rd party awards mod doesn't really cut it. 3DKiwi
ørret Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Most of all I think they should re-do the whole emoticon system (which is the worst system I've ever seen). IPB is the worst forum software for handling emoticons, it's just trash the current system. I quote IPS staff member (ticket support):"Hello. Actually, all the emoticons will be copied to Default. That's the way it works. (Don't ask me why, it puzzles me too.)" What about actually DOING something about it ;) *facepalm*
ørret Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 The emoticons are copied to every emoticon pack so that if you assign emoticon pack a to skin a and emoticon pack b to skin b, when you use an emoticon in pack a it doesn't show a broken image when you use skin b. There ARE reasons for this. ;) "Import into which emoticon group?" Should have the drop down option : NONE When I create a new group I am forced to import the emoticon set to another set (default etc) because I cant choose "NONE" which is extremely sad. It's horrible when managing a dark and white skin, where white skin using "default" emoticon set, will get "dark emoticons" added to the "default (white)" emoticon set. It's really worst solution ever. We can always agree to disagree if you feel I'm way off here.
iozay Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 More Flexible/Overviewable Permission Delegation -Easier management of ACP Restrictions without losing flexibility(It is currently not very overviewable and some options are listed twice.) -Some group settings are well hidden in the System Center, for example the permissions you have for the Report Center. I would love to have them visable at the Group Page via a yes/no checkbox -Group Management Deligation(Allow certain members to add/remove members to a specefic group they have been assigned to). IP.Blog more homepage friendly(IE, ability to add a single blog as your "Homepage Blog" More control over certain "Application Moderator" permissions. Gallery has currently a "Is a moderator yes/no" option. ability to switch between the WYSIWYG editor and the text based editor while typing a post.
3DKiwi Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Here's a couple more to do with member management: I want to be able to delete all pm's / conversations of members over a certain age. This then helps keep the database size down. I want to be able to delete topics of deleted members. After they are deleted topics / posts show up with a member name "guest_oldmembername". You can't search on these names to find the topics to delete. Similarly I want to be able to delete attachments of deleted members. Those of us running medium to large forums need better member management tools to help keep our forums clean and tidy. 3DKiwi
LeadCrow Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Make avatars the default everywhere, keep photos in profiles. Especially for the mobile theme (where photos are used everywhere and avatars not at all). Boards look pretty bad with everyone having bland 'noavatars' displayed in place of their already existing avatars.Make avatars the default everywhere, keep photos in profiles. A fair number of my members (Facebook types) get confused about the image attachments upload process. They upload and think that their image will be properly displayed when they post. Instead, it's left orphaned after they 'Choose File' and then 'Post New Topic'. Any way to eliminate the middle step of 'Attach This File' and instead put the attachment code into the text box after the 'Choose File'? I'm at 3.0.5 and maybe this has changed in 3.1.4.
CheersnGears Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 a WIKI system! No, IP.Content doesn't count because it doesn't use Wiki markup language. Also, make IP.Content usable for admins that don't know programming.
bfarber Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I've said this in the past, however single topics with 500 random unrelated feature suggestions are almost universally ignored while we are working on new versions. Please post your feature suggestions in the appropriate feature suggestions forum (one topic per suggestion, please). It really does help to have separation and clarity while we're reviewing ideas for future releases. If you have a great idea that you post, but it's on page 4 of a 9 page topic with 500 other ideas, it's almost certainly going to be overlooked (not on purpose). Besides, this is the company feedback forum, and this topic isn't really feedback about the company itself. :P
Claudia999 Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Please post your feature suggestions in the appropriate feature suggestions forum (one topic per suggestion, please). Ok, I will try :shifty: What's the best forum for feature suggestions for IP.Content, for example?Company Feedback > IP.Content? IP.Board Applications Support > IP.Content? Product Modifications > IP.Board > IP.Content? Customer Lounge? What I want to say ;) A system like the Tracker, but for ideas, would be fine :)
Panupat Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I agree Emoticon is frustrating at best. When starting a new group, I DON'T CARE if some emoticons are broken. I just want a fresh clean start! An example of how I want the emoticon system to work. User type : ) When the admin switch to Pack 1, it gives emoticon A If the admin switch to Pack 2, it gives emoticon B If the admin switch to Pack 3, it gives emoticon C And so on and so on. Changing emoticon packs should affect the whole site. Or even better - let us set up "Set" separately from Packs. I think what we really lacks right now is we cannot really categorize our emoticons. Adding packs adds all existing emoticons to it. It's not what we want. For example, I have "Common" set which are the basic emoticons : ) : ( : D etc And I create the "Onion" sets which have these :onionsmile :oniondance etc Then, I associate that set with the Pack. So my "Common Pack" would have :) :( :D And my "Onion Pack" would have this for example This way it's easier to categorize our emoticons and easier to manage/replace them too.

What I want to say ;) A system like the Tracker, but for ideas, would be fine :) That's easy. Company Feedback > IP.Content. It's feedback, about something our company produces, called IP.Content ;)
bfarber Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I can't imagine why you would post a feature suggestion for our products in any of these categories# IP.Board Applications Support > IP.Content? # Product Modifications > IP.Board > IP.Content? # Customer Lounge? So that leaves one option. :)
Claudia999 Posted January 5, 2011 Author Posted January 5, 2011 I have said nothing :shifty: and virtuously written [url=" favourite suggestion in the recommended category.

Amy T Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 A true portal or root page that pulls info from the forum, ip.content, gallery, blog and other apps you may have installed. Right now there is no true portal for Ips but I would really like one. Ip.portal is not a true portal as it puts junk on the end of the url /domain which in my opinion makes it a sub portal and not a true portal. Using the index.php file that comes with IP.content is also not a true portal as it just displays the default page of Ip.content. Although with some skin edits it can but used as a true portal sort of.

sergiu Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I hope you will include Ad Code integration for all other IPB apps (I really want for IP Downloads:) ). I think everyone will like this since keeping a board is not just for fun and we invest time and money. if my board is producing only traffic but no money is not useful at all. I renounced to use IP Gallery since wasn't able to produce any $$$ so I have no problem to skip to other more cash attracting scripts. If Downloads continue to be non-profitable will have the same future like the Gallery for me. regarding IP Content , I want to buy it ...but without a real good WYSIWYG editor I will prefer to continue with joomla :)

ørret Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Quite to the contrary, I've posted publicly I have intentions of redoing the emoticon system in a future version (I can't say when yet). I've posted as such in the feedback topics about emoticons in the feedback forum (where I suggested these ideas be posted)... If that's the case, I am indeed very happy, and I apologize if I was being rude, but this had to be brought up. Thank you.
