Answer is most likely going to still be no. IPS is focusing their efforts on getting IPB 3.1 done and released. I'd think that IP.Chat is a low priority at this point unless a serious issue arose.

so just trying to get a handle on things
that way can make alternative plans, answer members requests and all that

Chat releases are not coupled with IPB releases. You may or may not see a new chat release before IPB 3.1 is released. It's really hard to say. I think Chat is going to be next up on my "chopping block".
