I recently upgraded to 1GB RAM from 512MB and need some help with setting up the httpd.conf and my.cnf. I run one Invision Board 2.x forum and some medium PHP/MySQL powered sites. I probably only get a max of 30-50 users online at a time on the forums. I also upgraded to PHP5 and MySQL5 from version 4. I'm also running Apache 2.2. Here's my old my.cnf and the top half of my old httpd.conf. my.cnf [mysqld] port = 3306 socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock max_connections = 50 key_buffer = 32M myisam_sort_buffer_size = 32M join_buffer_size = 1M read_buffer_size = 1M sort_buffer_size = 2M table_cache = 1024 thread_cache_size = 286 interactive_timeout = 25 wa…

Hello, I had some issues with MySQL performance, especially when there is over 400users - seems that gallery makes this issue, because when I disable it it runs much faster. I had read few articles about differences between performance of MyISAM and innoBD table types. I'm nearly decided to move to innoDB, but I'm not sure if I have to do this only for some tables or do this for all tables in db, except sessions whil remain HEAP. Do any of You have some experience with performance on both of that db types? My server is DELL PowerEdge 2950III xeon quad core 2ghz, 8gb ram 3x146 gb sas disks in raid5 for system and www, 2x146 gb sas disks in raid0 only for db. Sh…

If I rename it, I suppose the server will create a new one and it will be ok ? How can I fix a size limit to the error_log files ? I'm using Centos 5 + CPanel. Thank you ! :)

WebFusion VPS running slow?
by Guest Lenny Warren- 2 replies

Hi there, I'm currently on a VPS 2.0 Pro package from WebFusion. Ubuntu. I've been with them for years, first on shared, now VPS. I generally run Invision discussion forums on them, as well as a few static websites. Ok for disk space, memory etc. but recently it has been sooooooo slow, lag is getting unacceptable. It is intermittently ok, then slow as treacle. My customers are starting to complain. I've spoken to tech support, and all they say is it's fine, but will look into it and then contact data centre. To be honest, over the last few years I've seen a decline in tech support and customer service, but wondering what to do now. I pay annually and my budget i…

Issues with ownership when uploading
by Guest Tim77- 6 replies

Here's the issue that I am guessing everyone has and maybe only some know or even care about. When uploading a file as an attachment in a post or to a gallery (or any other php script for that matter) the file that is uploaded is chown'd as "nobody". I am a hosting provider and have a number of IPB's running on the server. For me this is a problem, for the customer its wonderful. What this means is that when the users quota shows they are using 5gigs of space they are actually using much more. I ran the following command for each account on the servers, chown -R [account] /home/[account]/public_html The results were amazing!!! I found that I had a number of custo…

Slow server
by Guest Brandon D- 6 replies

I have little experience with web server management outside of IIS, so I'm looking for some help here. The server hosts a relatively light-weight PHP website for a school so it doesn't receive a ton of traffic. Additionally it hosts an installation of Moodle. The server specs: Intel Xeon 1.86Ghz Dual Core 4GB of memory Server 2003 SP2 Apache 2.2 MySQL5 PHP5 The website is pretty much slow a lot of times throughout the day. I don't know whether it's Apache or MySQL causing it. Is there some sort of monitoring I can perform to see what's bogging the server down? Any pointers at all? Thanks.

What flavor of linux would you suggest I use for a dedicated server hosting Apache 2.x and MySQL community server 5.x? Also, what are the main differences in MySQL Community server and the Enterprise server? At what point should you go with the Enterprise server?

We have a small dedicated server [Intel P4 2.4GHz, 512MB memory, single 80GB IDE hard disk, 10mbit uplink, RedHat 3, Apache 2.0, MySQL 4.1.x] Board has 293,000 posts, total size about 640MB, topics table 18MB, posts table 490MB. In a peak hour, there will have been about 900 different visitors to the board, about 80% of those will be Guests. Spiders are ALWAYS visiting it seems. What we see is the server load suddenly spiking high, and staying high for 20-30 minutes in the peak hour. Server load goes above 20 and stays there for 10+ minutes, top shows that the problem is all iowait, the CPU is sitting waiting for data from the disks. On investigation, I've found t…

Load balancing issues with IP.B
by Guest N3X15- 1 reply

Here is my current configuration: I have 2 1U Pentium 4s (3.0GHz, 1GB RAM each) behind a NAT firewall, both systems running Lighttpd 1.4.something on gentoo linux with fastcgi and memcached. MySQLd is installed on the first webserver (which will soon change when I figure out how to make MySQL replicate onto the second server or if I get a third server for filestorage/mysql). Unfortunately, because of problems with IPB logging people out when the servers are switched by the firewall's loadbalancing setup, I have had to disable one of the servers on my load balancing setup. Is there a way to force IPB to use database/memcached-based sessions or am I stuck with fileba…

Moving part of my board's services to other servers
by Guest SecondSight- 1 reply
Hello ! :) My board is growing bigger each year. So I believe I'll have in the future to move part of the services it is providing to other servers, in order to reduce the load on the board's server. For instance : - One server (and more in the future) for the board. - One server (perhaps less powerful) for the IDM, the links system, the articles/wiki section and gallery. Up to now, everything is on the same server. Is it possible and easy to move part of the services (gallery, links,...) to other servers ? Thank you ! :)
