Move topic, leaving links behind
by Guest MrEdd- 2 replies
It's a minor request but I'd like to see this moderator function changed slightly. It is necessary to have a way of telling a user if their topic has been moved somewhere else, but leaving a permanent link is untidy imo especially in forums that don't get a lot of new topics daily. Maybe add a new box on the mod form so that you can "leave a link" for "x days" and after that it gets automatically removed. An alternative or addition might be to have a tickbox that when checked will notify the topic starter by PM of the new location of their topic. It would stop those "where did my topic go!!??!?!" complaints when you don't leave a permanent link.

I finally found software that explains what I have been trying to say
by Guest Danno 61- 21 replies

I have been using IPB for years and have made quite a few posts relating to simplicity for end users on the typical internet and as newbie designers. Just check out my last posts. I found a software called Boonex that is right on the path of what I have looked for and what I have tried to explain. I have always liked IPB and its support and also been loyal (still am). I would really hope that the designers and staff go check out this software. I will tell you upfront that this software seems to be full of bugs and some unhappy users, the point is that they are on the right track. If this software was mastered right now, I beleive it would have the potential to wipe …

Forum "All Posts Read" behavior
by Guest Mark H.- 1 reply
I've noticed something odd (and a little aggravating, but only a little). If there are NO new posts that have been MOVED, I can simply march up the list of new posts, read a post, hit back (mouse back or backspace) and the new post icon is greyed out, read the next one, hit back and the new post icon is greyed out, and repeat until all are greyed out (marked as having been read). I can then hit back and the entire forum is now marked as having been read. However, if a post has been moved, even if I follow the link to read it, and hit back to return to the forum I started, it does NOT mark it as read (there also doesn't appear to be any indication that a moved post is…

On the "The moderating team" page, if a group is moderator, only list the group name... not every single person within that group. I have a group with 750+ members in it. My PHP memory_limit was getting hit when viewing that page, and wouldn't even display it. List the group name and link it to the find members within that group page.

I think it would be good idea to add an option to prevent permanent deletion of posts from the trashcan forum.

IPB 3 suggestion, more permission options
by Guest TrixieTang- 2 replies
- 1.2k views
I'd like to see more permission options in IPB 3, mainly the ability to set mod powers for super mods (Like whether they can prune or not. ;)) Also more options for usergroups on a per forum level, as in making forums where anyone can post, but only the thread poster and staff can see the threads. Also the warning system needs some tinkering if you ask me, ability to increase or decrease it multiple points/percentage in one go, also attaching banning and other punishment so x number warnings or points = an automatic ban... also add a permanently suspend account option and a global ignore so people who keep coming back to troll post all they want and no one ever has to s…

I'm getting this: Fatal error: Call to undefined method skin_msg_3::Menu_bar() in /home/a13316ip/public_html/sources/lib/func_msg.php on line 147 on my demo. edit: oops, please move to bug tracker, I'm not sure if I have permissions to post there, though.

Nuetral Warning/Warning Categories in the warn panel
by Guest Morrigan- 13 replies
- 2.4k views
A few people said they liked this in the topic that really wasn't about it so I figured I'd extract the post and re-post it in its own thread for a suggestion for 3.0. I think that there should be a Neutral warning thing so that it doesn't change the users warning level but it logs/sends a PM when the person needs a reminder or didn't realize they were breaking a rule. Its hard to keep track of repeat offenders without giving them a verbal warning and then for repeat offenses actual warning increases without having something that is easily trackable. Something I'm adding to this suggestion: I might also want to suggest "warning categories"? I suggest this because I …

Hi and thank you to everyone at IP for all you do to provide us with such a fabulous product. I've been using free boards for quite some time and tried most of them. However, nothing came close to the IP board and since making the decision to purchase a licence from you just a few weeks back and hosting my own board on my own domain, I have nothing but praise for you, and not just for the product itself but also the exceptional after sales service. From purchase to download to installation to answering queries to product upgrades it's been a pleasure and joy to work with you. I wish you the very best for your future and that it's a long and prosperous one. Thank you a…

Forum Hacked
by Guest Bain- 6 replies
- 3.2k views
Everyone, this is a heads up. I was running IPB 2.3.5 (latest) and it got hacked today by IP address: 71.228.81.15 - someone by the name of DarkOne. In all of my years running vBulletin, I have never been hacked. NEVER! There are some serious security flaws in IPB. I can send the IPB Staff my Logs if they would like to take a look and see how this was done.

MyISAM, MyISAM - or SolidDB? 1 2 3
by Guest W13- 73 replies

I've heard good things about SolidDB. There was an article on Database Journal about it setting new records. Has anybody seen a significant increase in performance from switching db engines? Currently, we're using MyISAM on 'MYSQL (4.1.18-standard-log)' (and PHP 4.4.2 (cgi-fcgi)). We run a pretty high traffic forum... so anything we can do to cut down on the query time helps. I'm interested to find out what others have done to optimize mySQL for IP.Board. Thanks.

IPB 3.0: Templating Discussion
by Guest BryanH- 11 replies
- 2.5k views
http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...;showentry=2385 Sounds great! Removing the template bits and replacing them with a single file for each "view" is a MUCH better idea! I'm glad we're moving in that direction. I don't really understand the template tags quite yet. I was hoping they'd be like short code for dynamically displaying certain content across all the templates. Something simpler, like the code in the header/footer wrappers. <% POST_TITLE %> for displaying the post title, <% POST_AUTHOR %> <% POST_CONTENT %> <% POST_DATE %> <% FORUM_TITLE %> something like that. Or is that what you're shooting for?

Instant video and audio record and posting capability
by Guest Danno 61- 1 reply
I have a way for people to instantly record video and post it on my board. The only problem is that it is not easily understandable for the end user (normal people). :( The technology is out there. This would be a great feature, seeming as though video is going to blow writing text out the water eventually (just my opinion). There has got to be a way to do this on IPB. and add it as a standard feature. (At some point). There has to be an easy way to this in a simple format??? The following is an announcement I have to explain to my users how to do this. Click here I am currently using 2.17. , getting ready to upgrade to 2.3.5 Can something like this be de…

Auto polls for particular forums
by Guest Danno 61- 8 replies
- 1.8k views
I just got this idea as I realized polls are allowed in this forum. (duh) If all these topics had polls, I am sure this would be helpful to IPS to see what people really need and want. (Highest priorities). 1. So why not add a feature on the new 3.0 to automatically add a poll to certain forums. Add this feature (CHOICE) when creating a new forum in admin CP. When someone posts in this forum they would have to add a poll or get an error message like the following. "This is a poll focused forum. Please fill out your poll to complete your topic" 2. This would also be great for moderators. They could close topics with polls that are similiar and close the topic and red…

New Topic / Add Reply for 3.0
by Guest Danno 61- 14 replies
- 2.2k views
 Here would be a feature that would clean the boards up tremendously. If a user does not have permission to start a new topic (or add a reply) in a forum. Don't have the buttons appear to do this. This would cut down on end users getting error message when clicking these buttons. Bottom line is if someone is allowed to post or add a reply, the buttons would show. If they don't have permission, buttons won't show. Simple and squeaky clean. :) The other thing is that if a forum is read only, take the buttons out from this forum also, clean and no confusion. The question is? How possible is it to add this feature?

Attachment suggestion
by Guest Cool Surfer- 1 reply

you cant type anything before attachment no2 if you upload > 1files in one post. It should be possible. Plus if we upload files via ftp to our site and want to give a link to them in our forum there should be a download count just like it is there for uploaded files via the regular way thro forum.

Hide post before posting
by Guest superstrikertwo- 5 replies
- 1.3k views
Why not add the ability for Moderators to choose weather or not their post is visible or hidden when posting? There are options to close topics after a post but none for hiding their post. On a board I mod on we have hidden chats within some topics talking about the topic or asking a simple question about it. We have to write "Test" or "Nevermind" post it hide it then edit it with our actual post. Would be nice to just have a check box to allow it to be hidden. Wouldn't have to be limited to just staff but to any group if selected.

NNTP System
by Guest Ubisoft- 1 reply

The objective is to offer to corporate members a NNTP system as the newsgroups, to be able de track and reply with more accessiblity. RSS and alerts are only useful in 1 way. If we can manage this feature in addition of the LDAP authentification, it would be great and improve the participation of all the users!
