  1. We use the excellent automatic social media promotion plugin by @Adrian A.

We have upgraded to 4.5 and so I have been fiddling around in the admincp trying to get things right.

I've changed something - but I don't know what so that our autotweets have changed from this:

To this - with a huge logo:-

Does anyone have any idea where this logo is being called from?

    Thanks

  2. I notice that on the new version 4.5, email notifications are truncated.

I understand the excellent reason for this because rather than giving the full message on the email, it will bring people into the forum.

However, for busy site team members, it causes unnecessary work to have to open every email and then to visit the forum thread to see what is being discussed.

It would be very handy to be able to configure email notifications so that they are truncated for ordinary users and displayed in full for site team.

    How about it?

  3. We've been operating forum software for 15 years with post counts and we don't have any problem and most importantly our users like it.

There are only about 10 or 15 members of the site team – whereas there are getting on for half a million ordinary members. Because of this, I don't find that the argument that the numbers reviewed by moderators are different from the numbers reviewed by the half a million members to be at all compelling.

We prioritise the interests of our users and as I say, we've never had a problem. Most other platforms have post numbers. We've used post numbers with Invision now using a plug-in which unfortunately doesn't work any more with the latest version of Invision.

I don't see what is wrong with choice. Invision is a pretty good platform and well supported but one thing I find quite unpleasant about it is that the Invision team seem to consider that they should make choices for us and deprive us of choice.

We are all adults – I don't have an option to use post numbers which I can either switch off or switch on. It's also not beyond the wit of someone with the right technical ability to have the member Post number in the corner and then to the left of it in a slightly different colour moderator post number.

Problem solved. People don't like it can switch it off. People who like it can switch it on.

Problem solved – what's not to like?

  4. No.  They don't operate retrospectively. and it hasn't been addressed by Invision.

We do use the Keywords tooltips application and that can be configured to get around the problem but it's not ideal for that purpose.  It's just a workaround  and I'm worried about its compatibility with the forthcoming Invision release.

  5. Thanks for all the interest, but of course the suggestions don't address the suggestion that I'm making about a possible feature.

What you are doing is proposing a workaround and of course you don't know the extent of the problem, the size of the forum, the size of our site team, or how busy we are generally.

Having to send personal messages to people and encouraging to use other software makes life even more difficult for us and also assumes that the people who are coming to the forum and posting the stories are sufficiently competent to be able to access and use that kind of software.

I really much rather that people simply address the suggestion I've made for a feature – or simply just to leave it. But whichever, it would be nice if there was such a feature.

  6. I suppose maybe it's because more and more people are using mobile devices to post their messages – but we are getting increasing numbers of people who post solid blocks of text without proper spacing and often without proper punctuation.

    No paragraph returns – nothing.

It really makes it quite difficult to read – and I'm talking about posts which can be a dozen lines of text – or even more.

It would be great to have some way of detecting this so that a message comes up encouraging – or even insisting that the person making the post restructures their message so that it contains paragraph returns and punctuation in order to make it easy to read.

  7. The "who's online" function at the bottom of the forum is reasonably helpful. The "filter by" feature is also moderately helpful – but I think it would become extremely helpful if there was an additional filter – filter by IP address.

This would help to give us clues as to which online users are bots and which ones are real people. The pots are often online using identical IP addresses – or else almost sequential ones. Real people are obviously completely random.

    Any chance?

  8. this was standard in vBulletin.

Sometimes we look for threads which have a lot in common and when we find that there is an issue which tends to be "trending" then we used to be able to move them all into a new sub- forum.

With Invision, we can use the search function to identify all the threads – but there is no checkbox on the right-hand side which allows you to select them all – or to select the ones that you want – and then to move them from wherever they are to a particular destination.

That would be hugely useful to us.
