  1. We've recently implemented a toggle button directly into the editor. It helps us keep above the line content as short as possible. It can be used anywhere where text is added via the rich text editor. We could keep the text even shorter in the example below - it's a case of deciding how much is shown by default. All it takes is a custom button in ACP > Toolbars and a touch of CSS. The same can be used in posts too I guess, although we've never tried it. This is all still in development and we've now got to decide where to put all the buttons. Probably going to dock them in a custom toolbar control and position it with CSS. I think we will end up with everything in the page header, bar the title, in a collapsible section. Expanded
  2. About the same for me - I sold my first Internet business to a US bank in 1998, and my second just under ten years later. But let's not talk about the third in 2008/9- that didn't fly so high. 🙄 You can lift the hood obviously and bring it more into line with what you want, but the issue is having to do things over given the possibility of breaking changes. Either way, I agree generally with what's been said about whitespace. In my opinion there's far too much of it and if something isn't being shown, due to permission trimming or lack of content, don't leave a space for it. I'll PM you a couple of screen grabs if you like. Bear in mind much of the text content is still Cupcake Ipsum.
  3. We plan on launching this across 3 to 4 separate platforms, each sharing the same parent brand identity, the first of which, altCars is almost ready. Once that is live I will probably post a link in the showcase thread. Much of what we've done is about presentation, navigation, sorting and filtering, plus external link display via iFramely. Just a series of little things, none of which amount to much on their own.
  4. If you want native video recording and hosting then IPS will also need to implement something like FFmpeg to handle transcoding. It's not so much of an issue for content that is captured directly into the community because the platform can encode it on the fly, but any uploaded videos will need a transcoding pass to make them suitable for cross platform usage on the web. Incidentally, XF supports FFmpeg and assuming you've installed FFmpeg on your XF server, issues a notice that the video is currently being prepared for use once the video is uploaded. I think it probably does the same for audio. It's a nice solution and works well, or at least it did when I last used it a couple of years ago. Obviously going the YT or Vimeo route cuts out the transcoding and bit rate tuning requirement, but as @Malwarebytes points out, you are left with little to zero control over who sees what, unless you install a security trimmed, proxy streaming service that obfuscates the true location of the video being sent to the viewer. Despite the obvious issues in implementing this, we'd love to see native video handling and transcoding capability in IPS, especially security trimmed playlists that are protected by native IPS permissioning. If IPS has no immediate plans to consider this, then I'd suggest approaching someone like @onlyME who built the Videobox app, which he might consider enhancing to include AV capture and transcoding. I know he's busy at the moment, but might be tempted with the right offer. Count me in for a sizeable $contribution should anybody want to run with this idea, or something of a similar nature which delivers equivalent functionality.
  5. I think you should view the out of box experience as a starting point for your own personal preferences. We’ve not even launched yet and already have 12 nested scss includes, covering everything from button placement to injecting section descriptions (selector:after etc ) when for example, core doesn’t offer the facility to add them in ACP We’ve also replaced the native menu system with our own custom implementation resembling the sliding menu in FB groups. We are now working on cleaning up the native mobile experience. With a little perseverance you can create a very tight, functional and dare I say it, class leading experience. It would be a surprise if anybody who needed Invision’s multi app coverage chose either Discord or XF. They are chalk and cheese.
  6. Hey folks, I'd like to rename blogs to journals, including urls and text strings used on the page. I plan on changing: Friendly urls from blog(s), to journal(s) Text strings in the language file Is there anything else that I need to be aware of? Many thanks Chris
  7. A little feedback on v1.1.1 If I set Tabbed Forums Index 1.1.1 forum view to Grid (cards) Display in Tabs in ACP it renders perfectly on the forums page. But, if click on a forum card it takes me to a list of sub forums but lists them in a traditional forum view (table), not as cards. This is different to the core forums behaviour that shows the sub forums in the same style as the view on the previous page. So for example if I am showing cards, it shows cards on the sub forums page too. Same if I show forums as a list, when I click on one one it takes me to a page of subforums displayed as a list. It would be great if the app could respect the current view (forum list or grid) when it displays the sub forums on the next page. Thank you. Very nice app.
  8. Forums may be dying, but I don't think the need for community is. FB is expanding its groups offering to cater for this, but apart from scrolling group nav, which is superb, especially on mobile, the rest of the FB long form communication experience is, in my opinion, pretty dire. So, I think the opportunity going forward is to create a slick community experience, that is safe, looks great and covers most of the functional requirements with a high degree of UI consistency. IPS is part of the way there, but it's those little usability touches that FB does so well (generally) and the likes of Discourse do superbly, that makes all the difference. In saying that, IPS continues to improve and I was very pleased to see that IPS 4.5 reworked the nav bar, although I still don't like the mobile experience. But, when all is said and done, IPS is, imo, far and away the most complete community platform commercially available and heads and shoulders above anything else in the space. One caveat to that. Discourse does discourse better, and a few other things not pertinent to this thread, but it's a one trick, mobile centric pony. As others have said, you make your choices and can stick or twist at any stage. But what I would say to counter those that argue 'you should leave if you don't like it', is that folks shouldn't be put in that position. Certainly not those that have been loyal clients in the past. We should all remember that pre internet, it was accepted by professional marketeers that the cost of acquiring new clients was 30/40 times greater than the cost of retaining them. I don't know what the stats are these days, but I can't imagine it's so different. Food for thought perhaps.
  9. Indeed. And adding to the various arguments against this charge, and addressing those that question the need to frequently change a domain name, I'd say don't second guess the motives or needs of others, especially when folks are needing to find a niche in a sector of the market increasingly dominated by FB & Co.
  10. Thank you for fixing issue #2. The above shows the DOM when prefix is selected. As you can see all three tags have ipsHide added to classes, when in this case, it should only be tags that are hidden. If I remove the ipsHide class from the prefix li, then I can click the prefix and it works fine. This is the situation with the default IPS theme and all other plugins and apps disabled. I can give you a login if you like?
  11. Hey, I love the potential of Filter by Tags but just installed version 1.0.4 on Invasion Community 4.5 and there's a few issues highlighted below. Images 1 and 2 show plugin working ok. But images 3, 4, 5 and 6 show issues. Many thanks, Chris
  12. I had this a couple of weeks ago. I think it's related to previous plugin renewal invoices. I deleted all outstanding renewal invoices from the Orders tab (I think!) and that solved the problem.
  13. Thank you. It does field grouping, but no mention of group repeating (N iterations). But apart from that, does look a cool tool. Useful for other things once a 4.5 version is released.
  14. What I hope is a simple plugin. Set maximum number of records/posts etc that a group member can create. This needs to be configurable in acp at database and forums levels. Use case. Create forum called CVs. Allow user to create maximum of one (N) post in the CVs forum. Set whether user can continue to edit that post ad infinitum. This needs to work across all post/record types and be compatible with 4.5. Dev must be able to demonstrate very good track record developing apps and plugins for Invision Community. Thanks. Questions in comments please. Offers via PM.
  15. Looking for experienced dev to create field groups for custom fields. Take a look at the repeater field in Advanced Custom Fields (Wordpress plugin) for a better idea of what I need. So for example, admin in acp can go to Pages app (or forums, blogs etc) and add field groups which allows user when creating records/posts, to be able to add 1 or more field groups to a record/post. Field groups would contain 1 or more custom fields and allow the user to add multiple listing type items in a single record. For example: Field Group: Employment details Would contain: Employer (text) Description: (Rich text) Date from (date) Date to (date) And so on. The above would allow user to easily add employment history (or any other list of items) to a record/post. This needs to work across all post types and be compatible with 4.5. Dev must be able to demonstrate very good track record developing apps and plugins for Invision Community. Thanks. Questions in comments please. Offers via PM.
  16. Hey FWIW I’ve been a City supporter since ‘69. Back to your question. You could add a club for each team and allow users to join one or more clubs. Then add the club enhancements plugin and this will enable you to show clubs user has joined (teams he/she supports) in the post bit on the left and profile hovercard Overkill perhaps. But an option maybe.
  17. Hey, will this work in clubs? Seems like an ideal addition to a book club.
  18. I've been thinking about this for a while now... but it's not just about the home page. I believe it's a matter rendering content in context. So for example widgets could respond to something intrinsic such as current user - which would give you the home page example, but also, if for example widgets could respond to a url parameter then we could have the same page render in different ways depending on the url.
  19. @Makoto Any thoughts on the above?
  20. Found this also: If I enable: I get: This is how it is with those settings disabled, or RT app disabled: Did I miss a setting somewhere?
  21. Hey, Only just installed RT, but notice that in forum admin section, RT is being added to a tab from another Plugin, Forum Blocks by @Fosters. Posting here in the first instance, although recognising that this may not be a RT issue.
  22. With regards to content history sort order, I notice .the most recently viewed content is at the bottom of the list. Is there an option to put my recent at the top?
  23. Thanks, it doesn't work with VideoBox, but that's maybe an implementation issue, I will take it up with @onlyME. On a broader note, would you consider allowing additional tracking urls in the ACP? For example, allow the user to add one or more url/* - like this: Name: VideoBox Url to track: xxxx.xxx/video/* I guess there's a little more to it than that, for example how to extract the name of the entity being viewed, but it might be a simple, but very useful add?
  24. Quick pre sales question. If user visits something like Classifieds, or VideoBox, will that show up anywhere? thanks Chris
  25. +1 I requested custom development for FFmpeg back in 2018: No takers, but if there is someone out there with the required skills, then I'd be happy to contribute towards a solution.
